I Am The Only Witch Hunter-Chapter 317: The Hallow Land
They walked inside the inn and immediately people were staring at them. Siderius with his long white hair and iron mask. Jude with his big belly and large frame. And then Ashe, a beautiful girl with an extremely athletic body.
The type that made everyone drool over her.
Siderius came to the bartender. "Two rooms. One double. And one single."
The bartender was cleaning his mug when he looked up with one eye.
"Are you citizens of Hallow Lands? Do you believe in the Mother Trees?" The bartender said.
"Give us two rooms." Siderius repeated himself.
"We don’t serve commoners here unless you are sons and daughters of the Mother Goddesses." The bartender waved his hands dismissively.
Siderius flipped the fire switch over and drew the Blazing Soul. The flaming blade scorched the air in the inn before returning to the scabbard.
"You are very arrogant in front of the High Lords." Siderius spoke softly.
The bartender widened his eyes. His entire body trembled before he went down his knees. All the patrons in the inn also did the same.
"Please forgive me, my lord! I didn’t know you were a High Lord." The bartender begged. "High Lords don’t usually come to my small inn."
Ashe’s brow furrowed and she looked around. People overreacted. In Snowfell, even if they knew Siderius was present, they wouldn’t be this scared.
"Stand up. We are sightseeing and do not want to attract attention. Just give us the rooms."
"Right away, my lord. And do not worry. The rooms are free of charge of course." The bartender said.
Siderius and Ashe stayed in the same room while Jude had his single room.
They rested briefly before going out and replenishing their supplies. Ashe was tasked with this job while Jude stayed in the Inn to watch over Caterina.
Siderius walked around town to observe the people in the Hallow Lands. The differences in classes here were really defined.
Siderius saw a lot of slaves being walked around in shackles and chains. Nobles in complex over-designed clothes with countless gold rings on their hands. While the commoners looked like they just climbed out from a fire pit.
The poorer the bottom is. The richer the top is.
Siderius went to the local market to see if he could buy a map of the Hallow Lands. There were quite a few maps selling but each was a little bit different from each other. There was no standardized map like in Snowfell.
Then he visited a chandler to buy some flint for the road. Siderius still had Sulfur in the silver bracer but he didn’t want to use that.
"Get me some flints." Siderius said.
The chandler nodded and went to the back. His voice echoed. "You seem very unfamiliar. You aren’t a local here, right?"
"That’s right."
The chandler returned with a few fire starters.
"Well. If you’re new in Hallow Lands. Just a few pieces of advice to survive. Commoners and slaves had no rights here. So careful who you trifle with. The Hallow Lands only allow one religion. That is the Mother Trees and Goddesses. Anything else would be branded as heretics and you shall be hung for it."
Siderius took the fire starters and put them inside the satchel. "Thank you for the advice. What about Lord Hallolass? Do you know anything about him?"
"Lord Hallolass?" The chandler looked to the door to make sure no one was around before answering. "Why do you want to know?"
Siderius took out a siler coin and placed it on the counter. "Let’s just say I am curious."
The chandler sneakily took the silver coin. "And how can I fulfill your curiosity?"
"What is he like? What does he like or dislike? How strong is he?"
The chandler rubbed his chin for a few seconds then answered. "He is very traditional and religious. He believed that the one and only gods are Mother Goddesses. He likes his parties and his prayers.
There is a rumor going around that he wants to become a god too. But you know... There are no Father Goddesses, just Mother Goddesses."
"Right..."
"As for what he dislikes. Well. Every other religion of course. Even the old ones like the Outsider religion."
"I see. Thank you for the answers."
Siderius left the store. It was what he thought. Lord Hallolass was a traditionalist. While Jude came from a family of fishermen and didn’t have any standards of a common High Clan, Hallolass had a long line of witches. They’re only a minor witch clan but they still had a very long history.
Lord Hallolass believed in everything this kingdom told. The mythology. The separation of classes. And the superiority of witches.
Siderius returned to the inn. The three of them spent the night at the Inn peacefully.
They left immediately the next day, heading to Lord Hallolass’ main castle.
The Outsider didn’t tell Siderius where Eli specifically was. He only said that Lord Hallolass held him.
All Siderius needed to do was subdue Hallolass and read his memory. A simple battle plan with a very high difficulty. Hallolass might not be that easy to deal with.
They arrived at The Long Call a few weeks later. The Long Call was the name of the castle of Lord Hallolass. They didn’t go inside the castle and instead camped in the nearby woods.
Jude and Caterina weren’t involved in this so they had no reason to show themselves. They would be staying in the woods.
The group set up a campfire in the woods and had their dinner.
"So what exactly do you need to do with Hallolass?" Jude said.
"He is holding someone that I need to save." Siderius said.
They were eating some kind of porridge from a metal pot. The porridge was filled with sliced meats.
"A woman?" Jude smirked.
"Of course not. A friend." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Who is this friend of yours that you need to cause trouble with the kind of Hallolass?"
"I don’t know him that well actually. But his... employer saved me once and now I have to save him to repay the debt."
"That kind of thing, huh?" Jude nodded. "Well. I wish you good luck. Me and Caterina will be out here waiting for you."
"You will be staying out here too, Ashe." Siderius said.
"What? No, Master. I want to go with you!"
"This is a covert mission. The less people there are, the better."
