I Am the Sweetheart of Mr. CEO-Chapter 669: Chose the Wrong Person (4)
"The person Kris worries about the most is you. I promised him that I would take good care of you. If anything happens to you, he’ll be angry when he comes back. You can’t put me in that position!"
Vera smiled faintly at her.
"Mom, don’t worry, I’m fine. You should go to rest early too!"
Bailey Hansen stroked her hair and comforted her with a few more words, then left her room.
Vera turned, moved closer to the bedside lamp, and unfolded the note in her hand.
The familiar handwriting on the note was confident and bold.
"Don’t worry about me; take care of yourself. Only then can I be at ease. Go to bed after reading this note, or I’ll punish you when I return. Quickly!" 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝒆𝒘𝙚𝓫𝙣𝙤𝒗𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
Just a few simple words, but the care in them was palpable.
Her finger gently traced the words. Vera folded the note again, placed it in the drawer by the window, then quickly changed into her pajamas and lay down on her pillow.
Although she wasn’t sleepy, she closed her eyes and tried her best to relax.
He was right; he could only be at ease when she was well.
...
Preoccupied, Vera didn’t sleep soundly.
She startled awake at six o’clock. After checking the time on her phone, she didn’t linger in bed. She rose quickly, and after washing up, she called Merlin Bradley to make some work arrangements.
She had originally planned to go to the project site as well, but with what had happened to Kris, she naturally couldn’t make the trip.
She simply told Merlin Bradley she was feeling unwell. Merlin didn’t press further, only advising her to rest well.
After making the work arrangements, Vera went downstairs. Bailey Hansen and Christoper Cooper, who usually slept in, were already at the dining table eating breakfast.
Since Henry Cooper was also present, Vera kept her words brief, merely greeting everyone before sitting down to eat.
Although she had little appetite, she forced herself to eat most of a bowl of porridge.
The doorbell rang. Zhang Sao went to open the door, and Tommy Taylor walked in.
After greeting everyone in the dining room, his gaze landed on Vera.
"Miss Vera, Mr. Cooper asked me to pick up a document."
"Okay."
Vera knew he was there on business, so she put down her bowl and walked into the living room with him.
"What... document?!"
Tommy Taylor explained in a low voice, "It’s the one I gave to Mr. Cooper the day before yesterday. He said he wanted to read it before signing. The contract is rather urgent. I checked at the office earlier but didn’t find it, so I came to see if it’s here."
"Then wait a moment, I’ll go look in the Study Room."
Gesturing for him to wait on the couch, Vera went upstairs to Kris’s Study Room.
She searched the desk but didn’t find the document Tommy had mentioned. Glancing around, her eyes landed on his safe.
She squatted, squinted at the keypad on the safe, then raised her fingers and typed in her own birthday.
With a soft click, the safe door sprang open.
This guy!
Vera couldn’t help but let a faint smile grace her lips.
After all these years, he still kept this habit, always using her birthday as a password.
Inside the safe were his identification documents, several wads of foreign currency, and then she noticed a Cowhide Envelope. Vera casually took it out and withdrew the documents from within.
The document’s heading, in bold letters, read: "Bidding Documents for Kashima Project."
Vera’s fingers went stiff.
Kashima Project?
Good night, my little princesses!
