Chapter 101: Another failed attempts

The coffee maker was a great idea, Ravi thought as he sipped what would be his third cup of coffee for the day.

"Excuse me, officer. Can I not do it? Don’t force me." The middle-aged man in front of Ravi said.

Ravi did not speak to him, raising his head to give him a cold look.

The man sighed, stretching his hand to prick his finger with the pin that Ravi had given him before letting the red blood drop on the machine on the table.

Ravi looked at the reader and looked at him, "You can go." There was no reaction, he really fainted.

Ravi picked up the phone, "Draco, we have another one." He said to Draco who zoomed in and sped off with the fainted middle-aged man.

Ravi took another sip of coffee and looked at the queue outside the door, "Next!" The person who came was a beautiful woman in her late thirties, she had a scar on half of her face and a warm aura around her.

"Fill it." Ravi passed her a form, he looked at her for a second, "You are a mutant?"

"Yes. Enhanced strength. Level 1. It helps put food on the table", she explained when she saw Ravi looking at her.

Ravi did not say a word, he just pulled out another pin-up, "Drop your blood on the reader for confirmation and you can go."

Unlike the person who had been so squeamish that Ravi wanted to just kick him out of the office, the woman just smiled and pricked her finger. "It had been more than thirty years since my mother took me to the Ability Identification Department. She bought me an ice cream later." There was a hint of nostalgia in her eyes as her blood dropped on the machine.

Ravi looked at the words on the reader.

Ability: Strength type. Level: 1 freēwēbηovel.c૦m

Neat. Ravi had just forged everything, the ability certificate included when he went to register. He was a little curious to know if he could manipulate the machine but he was feeling more tired than he was feeling sleepy. He had been doing this since morning.

"Next!"

Two hours later, Lisa entered his office, "Are you done?"

"Yes, that was the last of them. There was none among them who could use fire abilities or spontaneous combustion. Where is the Captain?"

"He went to interview someone who sent threatening letters to Daniel Johnson. Jabi Steves, his wife died of complications, after the surgery that Doctor Johnson performed on her. He claimed that Johnson was negligent but his case was dismissed. He had written several times to the Doctor saying that he would pay him back for the pain and misery he caused his family,"

"Is that so?"

"Are you not even interested in the slightest bit, so do you think that this Jabi Steves did it?"

"Is he a mutant?"

"No. But he could have ordered a hitman or something. He had the means, he had been to jail for drug possession. Maybe he knows someone in the underworld who can help him out."

Ravi doubted it, he stood up, stretching slightly as he left the interrogation room to rinse his mug, Lisa following behind him.

"If he wanted to kill Daniel Johnson so badly, I doubt that he would use fire to do it. The Arson was not necessary and what about the Micheals, how would the Micheals play in that."

"That is the problem

." There is no connection between the Micheal family and the Johnson." Sarah said, there was a frown on her face as she also slipped down a coffee.

With both the local news and the Chief bearing down on them, everyone was doing the best that they could to find the arsonist.

Lisa sighed and walked to the coffee maker, "I am going to get wrinkles, and there is no known motive. Nobody had something to gain from the murders." Taking a cup, she came closer to Sarah’s desk, "Do you think that this is a psycho, like a serial arsonist, just choosing his victims randomly, like we were taught in criminology."

"A serial arsonist in Davenport. I have been here for twenty years and we have never had a case like that. There is a connection, we just need to find it." Tom yawned, "Ravi did you get any lunch, I think I am going to be dizzy."

"Ravi? Yeah, good luck, sergeant." Lisa said while giving Ravi a look.

Ravi shuffled into his cubicle, ignoring their jabs without a moment’s effort, he looked at the box on his table, Arlen had shared the victim’s effects, their diary, laptops, and phones among the officers, asking them to go through it, hoping that they might see something that would help.

He slid on his gloves and began to go through Saerah Johnson’s effects, she had a journal where she also wrote her to-do list.

"Send the email to Philip. 8:30a.m

Make breakfast, 8:45 a.m

Go to the Supermarket at 10:00 a.m

Go to the Gym 11:00 a.m"

He flipped through the pages, she never made it to the Gym. Sarah had returned from the supermarket and was arranging the foodstuffs on the table when the fire happened. He went through the journal, not e

seeing anything, and putting it into the box. The box did not have anything that could help in his mind.

Ravi raised his eyebrows when his hand reached for a piece of paper, it was her grocery receipt. He put it back when he paused.

"Officer Adams, aside from the residents and workers, didn’t Taxi drivers also have access to the Dune Complex Estate?" He rubbed his forehead, "Only Daniel and his father had cars in their garage, so Sarah might have used the taxi to come back. It would be close enough for the killer to set the fire and he can drive out and watch from outside. Forget it, I think I am just tired." He yawned, he had not even had lunch.

Sarah’s eyes widened and she got up. "No, I think you have a point. Sergeant, what do you think?"

Tom blinked twice, "I am still in shock. What happened when I left, Ravi is contributing. Is this a parallel universe?"

"Someone pinch me." Lisa added chuckling. The phone rang and she moved to get it. The measurement on her face disappeared swiftly.

"There has been another fire."
