I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 211: Homicide
Chapter 211: Homicide
Like fluffy cotton that had basked in the sun, gently wrapping around a person.
"We spoke this morning," Ravi said but his cheeks were red and his heart thumped in his chest.
It was a pity that fates were not in the support of the honeymoon in the storage room.
There was a loud pounding on the door, "Arlen. Officer West. We have a case."
There was only one person who would call the Captain by his name aside from Ravi in the entire Davenport Bureau and judging by that person’s excitement with cases, she would be turning the lock very soon.
Ravi instantly separated from Arlen, placing his hands on his cheeks to cool himself down.
"Love..."
Ravi glared at Arlen, causing him to chuckle. He started for the door when Ravi’s eyes widened.
"Wait!"
Arlen’s lips were so swollen and red, that if he went out like this, even a cat would be able to tell exactly what happened. He reached out for the balm in his pocket and using a little bit of his ability, he smeared the balm on Arlen’s lips.
Arlen was looking at him with something akin to finding helplessness and it was Ravi who felt another rush of heat. Why on earth did he blush so easily, he was not a teenager.
A pink tongue moved to lick his index finger playfully.
"Ravi..."
"Captain Arlen! Officer West!" Korra knocked incessantly on the door, "We have to hurry before the scene is contaminated. I would be going ahead first."
The scene. Those words made Arlen’s face instantly change and he reached for the door, unlocking it and stepping out.
The forensic doctor had almost reached the end of the corridor and she turned back to look at the two of them. Calm eyes inspected the two of them so closely that Ravi had to move a step to the left with a cough.
"There has been a death. Someone was stabbed. A witness just reported it."
There was no hesitation when Arlen began to jog forward.
On Bluebell Road, the police lights flashed and Korra jumped down first. Draco and Sarah had been the officers who had responded to the report and they were standing in the crowd with pens and notes, taking down the witness statements.
People from the nearby housing blocks were wrapped in coats and wearing slippers, quietly whispering outside the area that the police had cordoned off.
Arlen pulled up the yellow tape and entered the side, Ravi quickly following behind him. They looked at the body of the young woman on the ground, she looked to be in her late twenties with a beautiful appearance and she was wearing a white dress that was now stained with blood.
Her eyes were closed, her mouth slightly ajar and her skin appeared to pale due to excessive blood loss.
It was something more than that. The expression on her face was that of anguish. Had she been stabbed by someone that she knew?
"Officer Johnson, take a picture and run her face through the software." Arlen furrowed his brow, "The witness is still on the scene?"
A man walked to them. He was in his fifties and wore dark blue trousers with a white polo and a jacket. His face was pale and his hands were still trembling.
"I work as a cashier in that Textile store over there. It is my morning shift so I decided to come out for a quick smoke when..." He swallowed, he did not know how to explain the horror he had seen, someone was on the ground and people were just passing by without giving the person a single look. "I saw her. I tried to do CPR, I have some training, I mean I watched some videos and then someone called 911. When the ambulance came, she was already dead so they said that we should not spoil the scene and we should wait." His hand trembled as he struggled to bring out a cigarette that fell to the ground.
"You did not see the person that stabbed her." Arlen interviewed some other witnesses, frowning as he did so, nobody claimed to have seen the person who stabbed the woman. Some said they did not see the woman until the cashier had screamed that someone was dying then they had looked.
Korra wore gloves and was examining the body, Arlen looked at her and she gave her initial report, "Incised wound located at the left anterior chest wall. I need to take her back for detailed analysis."
"She was stabbed."
"Technically, she was slashed, the length is about 4 inches and the depth is around 2 inches." She took her camera and took several pictures. "I don’t want to say anything before a detailed analysis. But I would speculate. The wound is very clean and sharp, it was done in a single, smooth motion. She probably died of hemorrhagic shock due to gradual blood loss from the severing of the left anterior descending coronary artery. The death occurred approximately 30-45 minutes post-injury, due to slow and steady blood loss that led to cardiac collapse. We will be sure after we run some tests." Korra’s voice was clear, causing Lisa’s brows to furrow.
"Doctor, what do you mean that she died 30 minutes after her injury?" She asked.
Arlen looked around, "A lot of people did not see her, there is a person, she could have been dumped here after..."He looked at the surrounding red pool of blood and he discontinued his sentence.
"Officer West and Officer Brown. Go to the surrounding shops and homes and know if you can find the surveillance of what happened here. Ask around those cars parked over there, if they have dash cams with records facing her."
"Yes, Captain."
Ravi looked at how tense Arlen was and he gave him a small reassuring nod before leaving. Arlen nodded back at him before taking a step back to give room to Korra.
Korra lifted her hand and the corpse floated up.
"I can not use my car. I would take her back in the police vehicle. You can send Officer Adams to assist me when she is done." With that, she left.
Arlen turned to look at Sarah, "Was the murder weapon not found at the scene?"
