I Am Tired Of Being A Hero-Chapter 217: Disposing a body
Chapter 217: Disposing a body
Ravi looked up at the sun, it was bright even though it was still a few minutes past seven o’ clock. The sky was clear and the clouds looked like fluffy cotton candy.
It looked like today would be a good day. He attempted the manifestation he had seen a preacher talking about on the television.
"You don’t usually go to work so early. What changed today?" Malik asked. Whichever organization that he had led must have skilled workers because when he got back and went to check up on him, the man was sitting in the front yard, holding a book as he moved his fingers to read it. He looked even better than he was when he felt sick.
"We have a case. Shouldn’t you stay at home and rest a bit?"
Malik shook his head, "I have three classes today. Right now, my health should be better than 65% of the population in Avalon."
Ravi’s lips twitched, couldn’t he just say I am fine like every normal person.
"A case? What kind of case would make you go early to work? A murder?"
"En. Right. Malik, why would you kill someone and dump the body somewhere else?"
Malik paused and looked at him, "Your question is wrong, Ravi. Isn’t it normal to dispose of the body somewhere else? The number of people who dispose of the body close to them for various reasons are very small. A murderer would choose to dispose of a victim’s body in a location that minimizes the likelihood of apprehension. Here is where it gets a little tricky, traveler murderers, who cross state boundaries to dispose of a body , are still smaller than local murderers. The bodies might be disposed of far from their home but it is still in an area they can control. It is one of the principles of geographical profiling, a little near but far away." He paused.
Geographical profiling was a little more complex than what he had just explained, its principal was to link the preparator and the victim with date such as the encounter location, attack location, murder location and body disposal to create the criminal psychological profile and deduce the criminal’s residence, the location of the murder, the place of work.
Ravi rubbed his head at the lecture and shook his head, "I meant." There was no need to run around in circles with Malik. "The killer slashed somebody and then dumped the body on the sidewalk. It is a very public place, why would they do that?"
Malik thought for a while, "Sidewalk. That is very public. There could be a variety of reasons. It could be a deliberate attempt to spread fear and panic in the community, he might be making a statement, to show his disregard for authority and a desire to control the narrative. Was the victim tortured before he/she was killed?"
Ravi shook his head.
"He could be taunting your guys. They are people like that, they enjoy toying with investigators. It could be seeking attention. You have to admit the sidewalk is a very big, ’Look at me’ move. It could be more old school. Sending a message to a particular member of the victim’s social circle, a group of people or woven a broader audience."
"That... It is definitely that last one." Ravi concluded quickly. Or maybe not, they had not yet interviewed the owner of Club Lush yet.
"If this is a serial murder, dumping a body publicly can be a final act of humiliation or a way to inflict further pain on the victim’s loved ones."
"It is not." Ravi said as they turned by the alley.
They walked down the street, their topic of discussion shifted into other areas.
"You have a car and I have Sage and yet we have to walk to work." Malik noted, his voice tinged with irony.
Ravi’s lips twitched, "I think it is a good thing that Sage decided to take up that Mechanics course in Alstria. They can all go and come back together. Not bad."
Malik blank eyes stared ahead, his cane tapping quietly on the street. Yesterday had been hell for him. Not the cold, not that at all but the chattiness. He thought that Sage was already talkative but yesterday, it had been a whole different ball game.
Maybe due to Asher and Ravi being the recipient of Sage’s chat or Lana being a constant buffer, the teenager’s attention had not been fully focused on him for a long time. Not to mention since they got here, Sage had lost that fear of him and just loved to stick so close.
Malik could not endure it anymore, he had checked for programs that would excite Sage and then had mentally nudged the teenager to go check them out. Sage had hurriedly rushed back to him to ask for his card to register for a program that he claimed would motivate him to go to college.
Malik was sure that he had never given his card to someone so fast. This morning when Sage was dressing up to go to Alstria, Malik felt a long lost joy in his heart. He had even transferred some money to his account so he could have more fun there.
"What is up with you, you are smiling even more gently than usual? What did you do?"
"I am not sure why you would come to the conclusion that I did something." Malik said calmly.
Ravi just looked at Malik, he did not believe him. He reached the end of the alley. Thinking that they had to walk for twenty more minutes to leave Harlem, He touched Malik and the two of them appeared near the alley next to the Old girls Boarding School.
Malik shivered and took a step away from him.
Ravi looked at him and then recalled this was the first time he was teleporting Malik, he had done it so instinctively, he had even asked for permission.
"That, what was that? Dont, don’t do that again, Ravi." Malik took a deep breath.
Why was he reacting like he had just done something so terrible it should be criminal, "You travel with Sage all the time and even that Onyx teleported you."
Malik had to calm his raging emotions, knowing the best next to him was his friend and he did not have many, "Just now, you destroyed my body. Didn’t you, Ravi?" His heart was still pounding. He had always liked to control his surroundings the best he could and now, he had lost control of his own body. It was the one of the most terrifying things that he had ever experienced, if it was somebody else, they would not live a second more.
Ravi froze, he had forgotten how his teleportation worked, His teleportation was just an advanced application of his Atomic Manipulation, it was precise deconstruction and reconstruction of atoms.
So right now, he had destroyed and recreated Malik’s physical body instantaneously. He had never seen a side effect or had anyone noticed the difference between his teleportation and other physical teleportation.
As expected as for an incarnation.
"I am sorry." He apologized.
Malik took another breath, "There is no problem. It is good to know you are the very last option for teleportation."
Ravi’s lips twitched.
Malik looked at him, "You can manipulate Atoms?’"
Ravi coughed, "I am late. I don’t have 100 dollars, Malik, I will see you later." He left the dumbfounded blind man behind and fled. It was childish he knew but he did not feel particularly bad.
He walked down the center when he saw a black Audi parked by and the driver lowered his window.
"Get in, beautiful!"
Ravi looked at Arlen, glad he could not see any dark circles around his eyes. He went home soon after he left. That was great, "Normally when they say it, it is with a much greasy voice."
"Oh! Get in, beautiful." He tried.
Ravi chuckled, "Close. Close. I would give it a 50 out of 100."
Arlen broke character, "That is a D, it is not even a C. I need to take voicing lessons."
Ravi laughed, opening the car door and getting inside, "No need for that. Your voice is a 200 out of 100. A++++.’
"Is that so, love?"
Arlen leaned over, sliding his fingers under Ravi’s chin to lift it up. Their eyes met in a soft smile and his lips met Ravi’s in a searing kiss. They were learning each other’s body and Arlen was getting a good score in what to do with those soft, yielding lips.
He slanted his mouth against Ravi’s, capturing that sweet tremor of his mouth, stilling it and commanding it to meet his own, until their lips were wet and slick and burning with each other.
Ravi;s moan shot through him and Arlen’s cock throbbed. Fuck! He missed him.
Ravi pulled away, "Heaven have mercy." His throat was hoarse, "After the case, we should..."
"En. A vacation."
That is not what he meant but a vacation sounded nice all the same.
