Chapter 5: 5:Pettiest Bastard Alive

It was another normal day for the workers in Arcadia.

Being a central hub of Apollo Innovation, most of the people living in the city were somehow involved with Apollo Innovation in one way or another.

E either officially employed, unofficially contracted, or simply surviving because the Lord had not noticed them yet.

As everyone was working, bannng!

A sudden sound shook a part of the city, drawing their attention. Their eyes were immediately drawn towards the high skyscraper sailing up into the city, as if the building had suddenly decided it no longer agreed with gravity.

CRUNGG!

BOOOOOOM!

The topmost portion of the building exploded, spewing dozens of metric tons of waste and debris, creating heavy smoke and dust — a dramatic announcement that someone, somewhere, had made a very poor life decision.

Everyone paused to take a deep look, however...

Were they shocked?

Absolutely not.

In fact, one old man calmly sipped his tea and adjusted his glasses as if evaluating construction quality.

The reason...

"Ahhhhh...I wonder which son of an idiot pissed the Lord."

"Why do idiots come here every other day to cause a mess? Is there some kind of membership program I don’t know about?"

"More than that, this has become so normal that I start to feel out of place if I don’t see any explosion happening. Yesterday was suspiciously peaceful."

The people muttered, looking at one another as if discussing the weather forecast.

Just then, a man jumped out and put up a hold bar.

"Bet...Let’s bet who caused the mess this time."

He spoke with the confidence of someone who had clearly won this gamble before.

"I bet 10 gold coins on Sir Jules.."

"I bet on Sir Jameson. He hasn’t blown up anything since last week. He’s due."

Hearing the bet, a man who had joined recently asked with a frown, "Wait...Why not bet on Lord.."

"LORDDDD?"

Everyone stopped and looked at the person in amusement, then slowly, dramatically, took one step away from him.

Then someone spoke, lowering his voice like a teacher explaining basic survival instincts, "It’s because if the Lord really made a move, the entire building might have been decimated into pieces with nothing left behind."

Another added helpfully, "And we wouldn’t be standing here discussing it. We would be... elsewhere."

The newcomer swallowed.

High above, another chunk of debris with sharp edges fell with a distant crash.

The old man finished his tea.

"Five more gold coins," he smirked evilly. "That sounds like Sir Jules. Now I am sure of it.."

...

A bit far away from Arcadia Metropolis.

The rear hatch of the car was kicked open, and a man jumped.

"GYAAAHAHH!" As soon as he jumped out, he grasped for air, holding his neck.

His body started

"Shit..."

"DAMMMNN! Dammnn!"

"You bastard....You dare...You really dare go for kill."

His back slammed against the car as cold sweat drenched his entire body.

His heart pounded violently, like it was trying to escape his ribs. His vision blurred.

For a brief second, he saw it again..

The scene of his body body floating in pieces.

Blood suspended mid-air and then his entire body crushed and trampled to pieces.

And then those cold eyes staring at him without emotion. He clutched his head trying to forget it.

He cursed to his heart’s content, which slowly forced him to calm down.

"Thank God..I saved a clone or else, I might have gone for real." This person was none other than Richard.

He clenched his fist tightly with a clear frown.

He got up, wiped the sweat, and looked around. He always kept a few backup clones unknown to everyone, even his most trusted aides.

He cursed to his heart’s content, which made him calm down.

After calming down, he grabbed his hair and screamed,

"Just what the hell is that?"

"No, who is that guy...Such a terrifying ability. Why didn’t I know about it.."

"Whatever...Now that I have seen you...I will bide my time and then-" 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

"CAKKKKKK!"

He suddenly froze as a sharp, crisp cry echoed in the air, sending him deja vu.

The air itself screamed as the surrounding temperature surged violently and he snapped his head to look at the voice only to be blinded by the descent of a huge fiery figure.

His eyes almost popped out of his sockets, and he felt his balls stuck in his throat.

"NOOOOOOOO!" He roared, but before he finished, the huge fiery figure struck him.

BBBOOOOOOOOOM!

A terrifying explosion shook the ground with a punching blast, burning down everything in sight.

The ground caved inward as a devastating shockwave exploded outward, incinerating everything in its path.

A flame cloud evolved, and everything in the periphery was instantly decimated into pieces, leaving behind nothing but remains of ash to talk about the deadly tale that took place.

As everything evaporated and the world turned to silence, a clicking sound echoed as a man hovering in the sky closed the lighter, spewing subtle flames.

"My Lord....What if he is really dead!"

Hearing this, the purple-haired man turned around, casting a smirk.

"Dead...Hehheheheeheh.....Don’t worry, bad people and cockroaches don’t die easily..I am sure he had several clones stacked up."He casually blew at the tip of the lighter as if he had just finished roasting marshmallows instead of a human being.

"This much is enough to calm my fury today, but if it is next time...I will not let it go after all..."

He stretched lazily mid-air, cracking his neck."If I start becoming magnanimous, how can I justify the title Pettiest Bastard alive....

He paused dramatically, placing a hand over his chest as if deeply moved by his own words.

"I am working very hard for that reputation you know..Kekkekeke...."

Soon a wild laughter filled the place causing the remains on the ground to twitch.
