Chapter 17: Flustered Regina

"Y—Your Majesty?"

Regina and I turned our gazes toward Alice, who stood frozen in the doorway.

Regina, realizing she was on full naked display, blushed furiously and sank deeper into the bathtub.

I smiled a little at the cute sight before standing up from the edge of the tub.

"Alice. Finally, you’re here."

"Y—Your Majesty... what happened?" Alice asked, her eyes darting between me and the water, clearly struggling to find what the hell was happening there.

"Well, you don’t need to worry about my bath," I replied. "Regina prepared it for me, and so I was just returning the favor. It seemed only fair."

"Y—Your Majesty, I should leave..." Regina squeaked.

But it seemed more out of embarrassment than panic of getting seen with me. I suppose even though she was very immune to shame, she had reached her limits now.

"Gently," I said, turning back to her just as she tried to scramble up.

I grabbed a large, plush towel from the rack. With my left hand, I reached into the water and pulled Regina up. I didn’t wait for her to find her footing; I pulled her straight out, strong enough that she yelped and fell against my chest. Her wet, naked body soaked through my white shirt instantly, her hands clutching my shoulders for balance.

"M—My apologies!" She gasped, immediately trying to pull her hands away when she saw the wet prints on the fine fabric.

I merely chuckled as I wrapped my arm around her back and lifted her off her feet completely.

"Ahh!" Regina yelped again as I swung her over the edge of the tub and lowered her gently onto the bathmat.

I raised the towel with my other hand and wrapped it around her body in one fluid motion, hiding her breasts and curves from the cool air.

"Be careful," I said, tying the knot securely over her chest. "You just lost your maidenhood. It might still hurt and might be feeling uncomfortable for a bit."

Regina went still, staring up at me with wide, shimmering eyes.

I met her gaze and reached out, tucking a drenched strand of her beautiful light copper brown hair behind her ear.

"You should take a day of rest today," I said.

"N—No, Your Majesty, I can still—"

"That is an order, Regina," I cut her off gently.

She closed her mouth instantly.

I smiled, leaned down, and kissed her lips softly. It was a brief tender kiss on her tender lips.

"Take a day off and rest properly. I shall be waiting impatiently for your first day as my personal attendant," I said, pulling back.

Regina opened her mouth to speak, but no words came out. She just stared at me, overwhelmed.

"Or would you prefer not to work for me?" I asked, tilting my head.

"N—No! That’s not it!" She denied immediately, shaking her head vehemently. "I—It will be my greatest honor and pleasure. I would love to attend to Your Majesty’s needs."

"Then go," I said with a smile.

Regina blushed deeply, nodded, and clutched the towel tighter as she walked past me.

As she passed Alice, who was still standing there dumbfounded, Regina shot her a brief glance. It wasn’t apologetic. It was proud...almost provoking. A smirk ghosted on her lips before she hurried out of the room.

Such a lovely creature.

I turned my attention to Alice, who immediately looked away, flushing.

"I—I will help her find something to wear—"

"No need, Alice," I interrupted. "I already ordered the guards to fetch some clothes from her room. They brought them earlier."

"You ordered Knights for this?" Alice asked, her jaw dropping. "To fetch laundry?"

"Indeed," I nodded. "Right before I told them to leave instead of standing like rocks in front of my quarters."

"Your Majesty, they are here to protect you..." Alice sighed.

"I don’t trust any of them, however," I replied.

Alice blinked, surprised by the sudden shift in my tone.

I didn’t know how I was supposed to get killed but there were certainly some traitors within this castle possibly among servants and knights so I didn’t want to take any risks.

I smiled back at a puzzled Alice and started taking off my soaked shirt.

The only knight I might trust was actually Arges, the Royal Guard Commander, whom I’d known since childhood and who was like my father’s shadow.

In brief, in a Game where my assassination was scheduled to happen any day now, I would rather be alone than surrounded by potential traitors holding swords.

As I unbuttoned my shirt, Alice blushed furiously and looked away.

"Dear Alice, are you my maid or not?" I asked her, peeling the damp fabric from my skin.

"Yes! My apologies, please," she squeaked, quickly snatching the shirt from my hands as if it were burning.

From the hallway, I heard the soft click of a door closing and the hurried patter of footsteps fading away.

Regina had already dressed and left.

Such a shame. I would have loved to watch her dress. Seeing a woman you’ve just made love to slowly cover herself up again has its own specific charm.

I walked out of the bedroom and into the main living quarters, which doubled as my study. I settled onto the velvet sofa, still topless, throwing my arms along the backrest as if I owned the place. Which I did.

Alice appeared in front of me a moment later, still clutching my used shirt to her chest like a shield. Her head was bowed, refusing to meet the sight of my bare torso.

"Dear Alice."

"Your Majesty."

"Look at me, Alice, when you speak to me," I said.

She raised her gaze hesitantly, doing her best to stare only at my eyes, or perhaps at some invisible spot on the wall behind my head. Anything to avoid looking down.

"I will be meeting my dear wives soon. Will you prepare a set of clothes worthy of the King I am?" I asked her with a gentle smile.

"I shall immediately!" She turned on her heel, relieved. But then she paused, hesitating near the doorway.

"If you have something to say, speak, Alice. There is nothing to be afraid of concerning me. Just because I became King doesn’t mean I’ve forgotten everything you’ve done for me," I said.

Alice turned back toward me, biting her lip slightly.

"A—About what Your Majesty said earlier to Regina..." She trailed off, unsure how to phrase the question.

An amused smile spread across my lips. I leaned my cheek against my fist, watching her squirm.

"What are you curious about? If you want to know what happened between us, I’ll save you the guessing. I made love to Regina," I said plainly.

Alice’s eyes widened to the size of saucers.

"I had a wonderful night with her. I’ve taken quite a liking to her, which is why I wish for her to become my personal attendant," I continued, enjoying her shock a little too much.

Alice opened her mouth, then closed it. I could guess exactly what she wanted to say, but I wasn’t going to make it easy for her.

"Are you upset about it?" I asked, tilting my head. "Or perhaps you don’t trust her?"

"N—Not at all, Your Majesty," Alice shook her head quickly. "Regina is an excellent servant. She was Baron Clay’s daughter, actually before they had been stripped off of their name. However her family situation became quite arduous... they fell into debt and..."

"And?" I raised a brow, prompting her.

"And... nothing, Your Majesty," she finished lamely, clearly deciding against whatever warning she was about to give. "I shall prepare your clothes immediately."

With that, she fled the room in a hurry, leaving me alone.
