Chapter 66 -66 Treat Them Like Air
Ye Xiu didn’t know if Bai Da truly didn’t understand or was just pretending not to.
Her Xingxing didn’t need anyone’s charity, and certainly not Xixi’s concessioin.
“But wasn’t it about the gift? Xixi is willing to give her the best one, Bai Zhi, what more do you want?”
Bai Da dared not direct his comments at Ye Xiu. He could only turn his gaze towards Bai Zhi standing aside.
Bai Zhi rolled her eyes dismissively and looked at them coldly.
“Are you guys ever not annoying? Do you have nothing better to do? I need my rest even if you don’t.”
With that, Bai Zhi slammed the door shut with a snap.
What’s wrong with these people? They are so pampered.
I’ve said it before, if there’s no real issue, don’t show up. How long has it been, and here they are again?
Just because they don’t need rest doesn’t mean everyone has to join their games.
And now questioning me, what the hell?
“Look at her attitude!”
Bai Da was utterly flabbergasted before he finally collected himself. Shaking with anger, his hand trembled as he pointed at the door.
“What attitude?” Ye Xiu looked at Bai Da with a sarcastic and icy gaze, full of hostility.
“Then what about your attitude? Do you see my daughter as a beggar, only worthy of your daughter’s leftovers? Is it charity?
Bai Da, you may not love Xingxing, but you can’t insult her like this. She doesn’t need Nan Xi’s concessions. Do you understand? She scorns them, and so do I.”
So Nan Xi is sensible and obedient? That makes it seem like my daughter is not? What kind of reasoning is that?
Listening through the door, Bai Zhi lifted her gaze towards the stars above.
[Bai Zhi, did you hear that? It turns out there’s still someone who understands what’s in your heart, it’s just that they realized it a bit too late.]
Bai Zhi had realized it on the day of the movie that this world must possess some kind of world consciousness, albeit a weak one. The villagers used to endlessly praise the group pet, but after that day’s events, their attitudes had changed quite a bit.
It used to be that Xixi was the cutest child in the village, way better than our own kids.
According to Bai Fei, just how popular was the group pet before?
Whenever they went out, they’d return with treats like dried sweet potatoes stuffed in their bags.
But now, everyone thought it was odd. Why not save the tasty treats for their own children?
No matter how polite a child is, it’s still not their own kid, right?
So the group pet became less popular, not to mention the children often had their own complaints.
However, Bai Zhi hadn’t expected that Ye Xiu seemed to have returned to normal too, starting to think with her head.
Otherwise, how could she have undergone such a transformation so suddenly?
It’s really too late now, though.
“Xiuxiu, it’s not charity, Xixi just feels that she’d rather inconvenience herself to improve the atmosphere at home.”
Bai Da frantically explained, hoping Xiuxiu wouldn’t misunderstand Xixi, who was so well-behaved.
“I haven’t misunderstood anything. My daughter doesn’t need things from others. I’m talking about your attitude, from the very beginning. It’s all about your attitude, Bai Da. You never cared about Xingxing. You ignored her, you made her lose all hope in us. And now, you expect her to return, on what grounds!”
Ye Xiu directly pushed Bai Da aside and walked to the door herself, wiping away tears with one hand. Leaning against the door, her ear pressed close, it was as if she were trying to feel Bai Zhi’s presence.
“Xingxing, Mom won’t force you. I just want to tell you that my Xingxing is unique, and doesn’t need anyone’s charity. Whatever you want to do, just go for it bravely. Mom supports you.
It doesn’t matter if you don’t like your brother. Just ignore them, treat them as if they’re air, but you must not stop reading books. Mom will be going back to school tomorrow, how about I come to see you again when I return?”
Right now, Ye Xiu felt as if two sides of her were fighting within her. One voice said that Xixi was her favorite, but reason and emotion were telling her, no, it was Xingxing, her beloved daughter.
She had to return to school; she mustn’t let herself be influenced again, although she didn’t know what was going on, she had to go back to school.
She needed to calm herself down, to seriously think about what to do in the future.
After Ye Xiu finished speaking, she turned around, knowing that Xingxing must have heard.
“Bai Da, I won’t ask you to be nice to Xingxing in the future, but please stay away from her. If I find out that you have bullied her, then we…”
Ye Xiu closed her eyes, and upon opening them, it was as if she had made some sort of decision.
“You understand.”
Those brief three words left Bai Da wounded all over, feeling as if he were in an ice cellar.
“Xiuxiu. No, don’t, please don’t leave me.”
Bai Da’s eyes flashed with madness as he grabbed Ye Xiu forcefully, pulling her so hard that it actually hurt.
“What are you doing, you’re hurting me.”
Ye Xiu frowned, only then noticing that Bai Da had become somewhat strange, his eyes turning bloodshot, as if he was desperately suppressing something.
“I’m sorry, I’m sorry Xiuxiu.”
It was just a moment before Bai Da’s eyes returned to normal, and even the strength in his hands lightened.
“Xiuxiu, please don’t leave me, you can ask me to do anything, I can be nice to Bai Zhi, I really can.”
He could, as long as Xiuxiu didn’t leave him, whatever it was, he could do it.
From an angle Ye Xiu couldn’t see, Bai Da’s eyes changed again…
“No need for that, as long as you don’t disturb her, that’s enough.”
Ye Xiu shook her head indifferently; Xingxing didn’t need them anymore. As long as they didn’t disturb Xingxing, letting her rest well with grandpa was already being kind to her.
“And that hairpin…”
Bai Da cautiously broached the subject, that hairpin actually matched Xixi’s dress quite well.
“That’s Xixi’s, there’s no need to give it to Xingxing, she doesn’t need it; I will buy her one later.”
Her daughter didn’t need handouts from others,
“Bai Da, I’ve been a bit disoriented lately, I won’t be coming back next week. Remember to take care of the kids, I need to calm down.”
She needed to calmly think about what to do next, and about that feeling in her heart.
“Sure, sure, I’ll do as you say, Xiuxiu.”
Bai Da, seeing that Ye Xiu didn’t have anything else to say, reverted back to his honest and harmless demeanor.
“Bai Da, don’t hurt Xingxing anymore, okay? She really owes us nothing, just let her continue with dad, that’s all.”
Xingxing didn’t owe any of them a thing.
“Alright, I’ll tell them.”
Given a choice between Ye Xiu and Bai Ye or Bai Yu, of course, he’d choose Ye Xiu.
“That’s good, let’s go, I need to go back and rest.”
This day had been truly exhausting, it wouldn’t be an exaggeration to say she felt completely drained.
She felt as if she were being torn apart.
In front of her eyes, the memory of Xingxing’s look of despair kept replaying; Xingxing was only ten, yet she seemed to have lost hope in life even more than her.
Fortunately, grandpa was there with Xingxing, otherwise she would have felt so guilty she’d want to die.
When she returned home and saw the children all looking at them, Ye Xiu didn’t want to say anything; she just went straight to her room to lie down.
