I Became the Lust God After the Apocalypse-Chapter 14: Building a shelter 1
Bang...
A gunshot rang out as the rifle’s muzzle released smoke.
Both Lucien and the head guard froze, their expressions neutral as silence followed.
Slowly, the head guard gulped.
"Here’s your bullet," Lucien said, revealing a blood-stained small bullet resting on his left palm.
A small hole had been torn through his right palm, blood gushing out. The bullet had hit bone and passed partially through, but his bones were denser and stronger now, and his skin tougher, so it was stopped.
Still, a near-ripped hole remained in his right palm.
The head guard’s expression froze.
The bullet didn’t pass through Lucien’s body... but his palm?
Wait, what happened?
He had clearly aimed at Lucien’s chest, yet...
Looking at the blood-stained bullet in Lucien’s left palm and the blood pouring from his right, the head guard swallowed hard.
This was impossible for a normal human.
That meant only one thing.
Lucien was an awakener.
"What’s your name?" Lucien asked with a smile as he placed the bullet back onto the rifle.
The head guard felt his muscles tense.
That smile wasn’t normal. To him, it was far more terrifying.
"Jeff... my name is Jeff," he replied.
Still, military training ran deep.
The head guard dropped his rifle, picked up the bullet, and saluted.
"Jeff, head guard of the shelter, greets you," he said, a drop of sweat falling from his head.
"Relax. It’s nothing," Lucien replied calmly.
He casually tore a piece of his clothing and wrapped it around his injured palm as Jeff gulped again.
"Apologies for the earlier gunshot. I know this is punishable by death," Jeff said with his head bowed.
Even in the normal world, firing at someone and nearly killing them was attempted murder. Now, in the apocalypse, it was far worse especially when awakeners were involved.
They were the law now.
Lucien could kill him easily.
Yet Jeff still couldn’t understand how Lucien had done it. Blocked the attack? Caught the bullet? How was it possible?
"No, you were doing your job. It’s fine," Lucien said, his smile widening.
Jeff chuckled nervously, then hesitated before asking,
"Boss... if you don’t mind me asking... what happened to the queen? Did you—"
Jeff made a throat-slitting gesture.
Lucien gasped.
"Ah, hell no. I can’t do that. She’s fine, just resting. Anyway, take me to the shelter and call the remaining guards," Lucien said as he coughed lightly and closed the door.
Jeff stared at him, his expression screaming disbelief.
As the door shut, Mai weakly stretched out her arm. It looked thinner now... weaker.
"Je... Jeff..." she called faintly before losing consciousness.
---
Outside, Lucien and Jeff walked toward the five-floor apartment.
Crossing the ruined road, both were already used to the sight.
It had been five days since the apocalypse. Corpses and destruction had become normal.
"What do you mean low rations for us?!"
"No hell no! I’m a billionaire! Why should I share with commoners?!"
"What did you say? Say it to my face, bitch!"
Before Lucien and Jeff even entered, loud arguments reached their ears.
Lucien frowned.
"It’s worse than I thought," he said with disgust.
"Gather everyone on the ground floor in five minutes. Time to clean up your queen’s mess," Lucien ordered.
Jeff nodded and left.
He’s different... Jeff thought as he walked away.
That aura... was he in a high position before the apocalypse?
Lucien carried the same commanding presence his former superiors had.
Lucien took the opportunity to observe how things were being run.
In the end, he shook his head.
One word.
Horrible.
There was no direct food distribution.
Only three groups existed: Hunters, Residents, Guards.
That was all.
No laws. No system.
This shelter was bound to fail.
It had already collapsed before it truly began.
Lucien felt disappointed. Even after working at the Shin High Building for so long, Mai hadn’t learned anything from him or from the others.
"Well, I hope Jeff is back soon," Lucien muttered.
Then, amid the arguing crowd, he noticed a single man sitting quietly, using a knife to carve something into the ground.
Lucien’s curiosity was piqued.
He moved closer and froze.
The man had drawn a functional governmental system suited for the apocalypse.
He labeled awakeners as leaders and designed multiple subsystems beneath them, distributing power efficiently.
"With this, you could even control a city," Lucien’s eyes widened.
But that wasn’t all.
The system divided society clearly: An elite minority functional. A common majority also functional.
"Brilliant," Lucien muttered.
It was at least fifty percent similar to what he had planned... but better.
A grin formed on his face.
What a talent.
Hearing an unfamiliar voice, the man jumped up in fear and bowed repeatedly.
"I’m sorry! I won’t draw on the ground anymore! The knife, I won’t use it again! I’m sorry!" the man said rapidly, never lifting his head.
This reaction fascinated Lucien even more.
"Look up," Lucien said.
The man hesitated, struggling but eventually looked up.
His face was hollow, marked by deep sorrow, yet a faint glimmer of hope still lingered.
He was stunned.
Lucien’s handsome face, his aura, he didn’t resemble anyone else here.
The old man tugged at his torn suit and swallowed.
When will I get clean clothes like his?
"I’m sorry if I bothered you," the man said softly, finally tearing his eyes away from Lucien’s clothes.
At least it wasn’t the guards.
He crouched back down and resumed carving.
"You don’t seem very sorry," Lucien chuckled. "But I appreciate talent. Stick around. Maybe you and I can work something out."
The man paused.
"Who are you? And how can you be sure we can work together? I tried talking to the queen once, but she dismissed me. This place will crumble soon anyway. I’m just preparing to leave," he muttered.
Lucien laughed.
The man was right.
With Mai’s leadership, it would collapse.
But Lucien was here now.
"We’ll see," Lucien said before walking away.
The man looked up but Lucien was already gone.
"...Maybe I’m hallucinating," the man muttered.
