Chapter 123: Light in the Darkness

"L-Luan..." Roxanna said in a weak voice. "Pull me up... first. I-I’ll be fine."

Luan looked like he was about to pass out as he pulled Roxanna’s body away from the rock that had pierced her stomach. Even though her pain tolerance was very high, it didn’t mean she couldn’t feel pain at all.

Maybe her brain also thought this was a huge tragedy—well, yes, it really was. It would definitely be a big tragedy if Roxanna didn’t have a healing ability—she had even imagined the pain before Luan pulled her out.

"I’m okay... I’m okay..." she murmured again and again, like she was casting a small spell on herself. But deep down, she was really just trying to believe it.

She was trying to convince herself that everything would be fine, even though a sharp rock had just pierced her stomach.

The moment the stone was no longer inside her body, Roxanna let out a heavy breath. Luan helped her lie down near Cyrus, and he panicked again because he didn’t know what else he could do to help his wife and Cyrus.

"Luan... I’ll be fine," Roxanna said softly. "I’ll be fine, Luan." She repeated it three times, as if saying it enough would make it come true. But in truth, she wasn’t just trying to comfort herself, she was trying to calm him down.

After all, those words will definitely come true.

"Look," she added gently, forcing a weak smile. "My wound... it’s already closing."

Luan fixed his eyes on the wound, and for a moment, he forgot how to breathe. The only thing on his mind at that time was whether his wife would survive or not.

"Luan..." Roxanna said softly. She slowly reached out and took his trembling hand. "Can you do me a favor?" she whispered. "You have to help Cyrus too."

When she mentioned Cyrus, Luan suddenly remembered how to breathe again and realized that there was still someone else he had to save.

Cyrus was still conscious and groaning in pain, even though it wasn’t very clear. Even so, he didn’t make a fuss or urge Luan to save him quickly. He probably also knew that Luan needed some time to process what had happened to them.

"My blood... is still flowing..." Roxanna whispered weakly. "So take it from me and put it on Cyrus’s wound. But first... you have to pull him away from the rock, Luan."

Luan nodded quickly, then turned to Cyrus. "Alright, I’ll pull you on the count of three. Do you understand?"

Cyrus only nodded in response.

Then Luan said, "Alright, one... two—"

Before he could say three, Luan suddenly grabbed Cyrus and pulled him up with all his strength, tearing him away from the sharp rock in one rough move.

"FUCK! LUAN, YOU BASTARD!" Cyrus yelled in pain and shock. "You lied!"

Luan didn’t even look sorry. Instead, he snorted. "Stop acting like a baby. Roxanna didn’t even scream as loud as you."

Cyrus was about to say something, but Roxanna spoke first. "Don’t fight. Don’t fight," she said while panting, making Luan hold himself back from speaking harshly again.

"I’m sorry," Luan finally said. He looked at Cyrus seriously. "Let me help you."

Since Cyrus rarely argued with Luan, he didn’t make things difficult for him either. Luan helped him lie down right beside Roxanna, and carefully pressed on her stomach wound so he could take more blood.

"I’m sorry. I’m sorry," Luan said to her over and over again. And when he smeared the blood on Cyrus’s wound, he said the same thing. "I’m sorry, but it’s going to hurt a lot."

Cyrus clenched his teeth tightly, holding himself back from screaming. His whole body tensed the moment Roxanna’s blood touched his wound.

The healing happened so fast that both Roxanna and Cyrus felt like they were being stitched up while still alive.

In the middle of all the pain, Cyrus reached for Roxanna’s hand and held it tightly, so he could give her some strength, and also for himself.

After what felt like forever, their wounds finally closed completely, leaving their stomachs without even a single scar.

Both Roxanna and Cyrus were breathing heavily. Luan looked at them with worried eyes. "Are you... are you both okay?" he asked softly.

"I’m fine now," Roxanna replied first. She slowly lifted her hand and reached for him. Then she held his hand tightly. "Thank you, Luan," she said sincerely. "You did so well."

[If Luan hadn’t been here, we might have stayed in that position for hours because I was too scared to lift myself up,] Roxanna thought to herself. [Fortunately, my Luan is with me too.]

The moment she called him "my Luan" in her mind, his heart melted in seconds. Luan even had to restrain himself so he wouldn’t immediately jump into her arms and kiss her all over her face.

He turned his face away for a moment, pretending to check Cyrus’s condition, just so Roxanna wouldn’t see how red his ears had become.

"I-It’s nothing," he muttered. "Anyone would’ve done the same."

But his tail betrayed him. It kept swaying happily behind him, moving faster and faster.

Cyrus noticed it and raised an eyebrow weakly. He said nothing, but laughed softly because, little by little, Luan was finding it harder to control his own feelings.

Unfortunately, that calm moment couldn’t last long. Faintly, they heard a rumbling sound around them again. But this time, instead of creating a new hole, the previous hole suddenly closed, leaving them with no source of light at all.

[Do you have candles or matches?] Roxanna asked the system.

Even though they could see in the dark, it didn’t mean she felt comfortable walking through this tunnel without any light.

The system replied, [The system has a much better offer, Host!]

[How about a magic flashlight?] the system added. [It’s only 700 SP.]

Without thinking any further, Roxanna replied immediately.

[Yes, let me have that.]

A familiar notification sounded in her mind.

[Purchased: 1 Magic Flashlight: 700 SP]

[Remaining Spirit Points (SP): 84,300]

A second later, a small, silver flashlight appeared in her hand. It looked simple, almost ordinary. But the moment Roxanna pressed the button, a bright, soft light spread out in front of them.

The dark underground cave was instantly filled with gentle white light.

Luan and Cyrus, who had never seen a flashlight in their lives, immediately widened their eyes.

"What is that?!" Luan was the first to ask.

Roxanna patiently explained, "It’s called a flashlight..."

They nodded in understanding as she explained how it worked.

"At least we can see clearly with that... flashlight thingy," Luan said. Then he glanced around the underground cave and narrowed his eyes. "But still... I don’t think that flashlight can lead us out of here."

"Shh..." Cyrus suddenly put his finger in front of his lips, signaling them not to make any sound. "Do you hear that?"

Roxanna frowned slightly. "Hear what?"

"The sound of running water," Cyrus said in a very low voice. "Maybe we can find a way out if we follow it."

Roxanna held her breath and listened carefully. At first, she heard nothing, only silence. Then faintly she heard the sound of flowing water from a distance.

"It’s not a waterfall," Roxanna whispered. "And it doesn’t sound like a strong river either... It’s more like a small stream that leads to a bigger one."

She slowly lifted the flashlight and pointed it toward the dark passage ahead.

"It’s coming from over there," she said softly.

Luan leaned closer to her and listened carefully. "Yeah," he replied in a low voice. "I hear it too."

Cyrus nodded, his eyes sharp and focused. "That kind of sound usually means moving water, and moving water often leads outside."

Hearing that, Roxanna felt a small wave of hope rise in her chest. "Then let’s follow it," she said softly.

Roxanna paused when she felt Luan’s hand wrap around hers. Looking up at him, she saw that his eyes were full of worry.

"Are you sure?" he asked softly. "Don’t you want to rest here for a while? After all... you were badly hurt just now."

Roxanna lowered her gaze for a moment and saw that her clothes were torn. There was a hole in her shirt where the sharp stone had pierced her body.

She had even had to change into spare clothes from her bag because the old ones were completely ruined. Unfortunately, the thick jacket she was wearing was also damaged, and so was Cyrus’s.

[Should I buy new jackets from the system?] Roxanna asked herself. [But the system always asks for too many Spirit Points, and I think we’ll need more items when we reach the peak later.]

In other words, if she kept spending her Spirit Points continuously from now on, she might not have many SP left when she truly needed them later.

"We can still use these jackets," Cyrus said after he was finally able to breathe normally again.

"Let’s just exchange jackets," Luan said as he took off his untorn jacket.
