I Became the Villainess, But My Beast Husbands Can Hear My Mind?!-Chapter 158: A Sleep That Isn’t Sleep (2)
"That wasn’t like him." He exhaled slowly. "But since he didn’t do anything strange like hurting himself or going berserk, I thought he would be fine, but..."
Zeir took a deep breath and seemed to lose the will to continue. After all, he and Azul had taken care of Calen while Roxanna was away, and every morning after he woke up, he had hoped Calen would wake up too.
But day after day passed, and Calen still didn’t open his eyes. He barely even moved in his sleep, making Zeir start to think that he had already lost Calen long ago.
Zeir had only known Calen for a year, and he didn’t know all of the dog beastman’s past. But still, the idea of losing Calen forever made his chest ache.
During the year they lived in the Vixeria Tribe, Calen often followed him wherever he went, probably because Zeir was the only husband of the "evil" Roxanna who didn’t complain about being trailed.
To be honest, Zeir had also found Calen annoying. But since he never did anything bad to him, Zeir never said anything about it. However, ever since the dog beastman stopped waking up and stopped following him around, Zeir was... starting to miss him.
No, he actually missed Calen a lot, even more than he wanted to admit.
"...but he never woke up after that night," Luan said quietly, finishing Zeir’s unfinished words. "He may be a heavy sleeper, but that doesn’t mean he would sleep like a dead person like this."
Aelin nodded after hearing their explanation. She didn’t only check Calen’s pulse. She carefully examined his entire body, her hands moving with calm focus as if searching for a hidden wound or anything unusual.
But after several long moments, she found nothing.
A small frown appeared on her face. "I’ll need to scan his body thoroughly," Aelin said at last.
Roxanna blinked. "Scan?" 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚
The word instantly made her think of strange modern tools and machines. Things that clearly didn’t exist here.
Before Roxanna could ask more, Aelin suddenly turned toward her. "Can you do me a favor?"
Roxanna immediately nodded. "Yes. Anything."
Aelin smiled lightly. "Could you prepare a delicious meal for me after I finish examining him?" She tilted her head slightly. "I’m not sure whether you can cook, but—"
"I can cook!" Roxanna cut her off quickly. "Whatever kind of meal you want, I can prepare it right away!"
Honestly, Roxanna didn’t understand why Aelin suddenly asked for something so random. But since the request wasn’t dangerous, she decided not to think about it too much.
"You see... after I scan my patient’s body thoroughly, my energy will be completely drained, and my body will become weak," Aelin explained. "That’s why, as compensation, I want a meal that is very nutritious and delicious so I can recover from my fatigue!"
Roxanna wasn’t the best cook, but with the system’s cookbook, she could make anything she wanted. So, with full confidence, she nodded and said, "Alright, I’ll prepare plenty of nutritious food for you. But first, please... please find out what’s happening to Calen."
Aelin placed a hand on Roxanna’s shoulder. "You don’t need to worry. For years, I haven’t lost a single patient, and I don’t plan to ruin my record today."
Roxanna didn’t know how to respond. The only thing she could do was nod and whisper softly, "Thank you..."
Aelin slowly pulled her hand back. Then, with careful movements, she placed one hand over Calen’s palm, while the other rested gently on his forehead. Not long after, a soft green light appeared from her hands.
Even though Roxanna wasn’t touching the green light directly, she could still feel the warmth radiating from Aelin’s hands.
"It will take a long time since I need to check every cell in his body. That’s why..." She turned to Roxanna and smiled. "So... could you start cooking now? And don’t forget to make it really delicious."
Roxanna was taken aback for a moment. She hadn’t expected Aelin to send her away. But she didn’t protest, because she had already promised.
"O-Okay... I’ll have Luan and Zeir stay here with you, while the others help me with the cooking. B-But if something bad happens, you must call my name immediately!"
Aelin nodded quickly. "Of course!"
Even though her heart was reluctant, Roxanna still left the bedroom. She deliberately didn’t close the door so she could hear anything that happened inside the room.
"Roxanna, he will be fine." Azul caught her hand the moment they stepped into the kitchen. "He will be fine. So now... the only thing you need to think about is how to cook something delicious for Aelin."
Roxanna fell silent for a while, but her mind was filled with countless thoughts. [Did Aelin tell me to cook on purpose so I wouldn’t be so tense?]
[But... what kind of wife could cook calmly while her husband is on the verge of death?]
She started biting her fingernails. [I have five husbands, but losing one is still a BIG NO!]
"Roxanna." Cyrus gently took her other hand, stopping her from biting her nails. "Aelin is doing her best to help Calen, so the last thing we want is to serve her bad food."
For a moment, Roxanna simply stood there, her fingers still trapped gently between Azul’s and Cyrus’s hands.
After a moment, Roxanna let out a long, tired sigh. "You’re right."
She looked at both of them, then forced a bright smile onto her face. "Alright," she said, trying to sound more cheerful than she felt. "Let’s cook the best meal for Aelin."
Cyrus and Azul smiled back at her, and before Roxanna could even react, they both leaned in. At the exact same time, two soft kisses landed gently on her cheeks.
Roxanna blinked, completely stunned. "Y-You can’t just kiss me like that out of nowhere!" She quickly covered her face with her hand, as if trying to hide, but it was already too late.
A deep blush spread across her cheeks in seconds. "I–I could have died from a heart attack!"
