I Become The Richest Man With A monthly Salary of Twenty Thousand Yuan-Chapter 682 - 477 Curtain Call_2
She had originally thought Xia Liang was just going to help, never expecting him to actually fly the plane. When Xia Liang had gone to check on the cockpit, she was terrified. But she knew he was leaving to do something important, so no matter how scared she felt, she wouldn’t show it. Instead, she just reminded him to be safe.
Watching the couple in front of her embrace, Tong Dongnuan still felt a pang of envy. But she didn’t blame Xia Liang. She knew he had left to do something far more important.
And now, she understood what that was.
Xia Liang wanted to make sure they could live on, together!
With teary eyes, Tong Dongnuan turned her head and saw a heavyset man, who had been covering his head, getting up from the floor. He stared at her in shock.
"Was that your boyfriend who was just speaking?"
Before Tong Dongnuan could answer, a young man nearby stood up.
"Yes! I heard them talking earlier. She’s the girl the captain was talking about!"
His voice wasn’t loud, but everyone in the surrounding rows heard him.
"Holy cow! Our hero’s girlfriend is sitting right in front of me?"
"Damn! She looks like a Fairy Lady! No wonder she has such an outstanding boyfriend."
"She looks so young. Her boyfriend can’t be much older, right?"
"I saw him before. He’s about the same age as this young lady!"
"No way! He can fly a plane at such a young age?"
"Young lady! Thank your boyfriend for saving our lives!"
"Yes, thank you, miss!"
...
Listening to the thanks from those around her, Tong Dongnuan waved her hands dismissively, feeling incredibly embarrassed. "No, it was my boyfriend who flew the plane. It had nothing to do with me. If you want to thank someone, you should thank him."
Hearing this, the survivors, still reeling from the near-disaster, couldn’t help but tease her.
"But he is your boyfriend, isn’t he? Thanking either one of you is the same thing. Just accept it on his behalf. Besides, didn’t he say it himself? You were the one who gave him courage and confidence."
"Yeah! That’s right!"
...
Everyone nodded in agreement. Just as Tong Dongnuan was wondering what to do, the cabin door finally opened. Passengers began to stand up and make their way toward the exit.
Outside the cabin, medical staff were already waiting to treat the injured.
「Five minutes later.」
Checking the time, Xia Liang stood up. Most of the passengers had disembarked; it was their turn now.
"It’s about time," Xia Liang said. "Shall we go?"
As the three of them left the cockpit and descended from the plane, they were surprised to find that not a single passenger had left. Everyone was standing below, watching them in silence.
Tong Dongnuan was now at the front of the crowd. She looked at Xia Liang with tear-filled eyes, then ran toward him, anxiously looking him over.
"Xia Liang, are you okay?"
"I’m fine." Xia Liang gently pinched her cheek. "What about you? Are you hurt?"
Tong Dongnuan shook her head. "No, I listened to you. I braced myself right after you left, so I’m completely fine." To prove her point, she even spun around in front of him.
"Good girl!"
Xia Liang pulled Tong Dongnuan into his arms. Feeling his embrace, Tong Dongnuan felt an unprecedented warmth. She looked up, and their eyes met.
"I was so worried about you."
"I’m sorry for making you worry."
With that, Xia Liang slowly lowered his head and kissed her. They held the kiss for a long moment, a bold display of affection for all the onlookers. After their lips finally parted, the crowd of spectators erupted in cheers.
"Captain Xia, you’re incredible! Incredible!"
"Thank you!"
"We’re forever in your debt for saving our lives!"
"Words can’t express our gratitude!"
...
This scene didn’t last long, as medical personnel began directing the passengers onto vehicles. Now that the plane had landed safely, there was no reason for them to remain at the site.
However, Xia Liang didn’t leave. He took Tong Dongnuan and walked over to where a group of people was standing.
"Excuse me," Xia Liang said with a smile. "Are you looking for me?"
The man leading the group was clearly taken aback. He had assumed he would have to intercept Xia Liang, but the young man had approached him directly. "You knew we were looking for you?" he asked, puzzled.
Xia Liang rolled his eyes. "I’m not an idiot." He pointed to the bustling airport staff nearby. "All the departments are scrambling, but you’re just standing here. After a major incident like this, an investigation is a given. I may be a passenger, but I also flew the plane."
Hearing his explanation, the group of men in police uniforms nodded. With such a major aircraft incident, taking statements was standard procedure.
The middle-aged man in the lead looked at Xia Liang with approval. "Since you already know, this will be much simpler. We hope you’ll cooperate."
"I’ll cooperate. Of course, I’ll cooperate."
He followed the middle-aged man toward a separate car. Worried about Xia Liang, Tong Dongnuan insisted on coming along. The man didn’t mind. Some passengers would have to be questioned anyway, so he might as well take her along too.
Since this wasn’t a terrorist hijacking, there was no ’dark room’ detention. They were simply taken to the airport police station to give a routine statement. The police asked about everything: how he boarded the plane, what accident occurred, how he knew about it, why he could fly a plane, and how he flew out of the cumulonimbus cloud. Xia Liang recounted the entire process like a storyteller, omitting, of course, the details of where he obtained his pilot’s license.
The two police officers sitting opposite him listened in shock. Xia Liang’s story was so captivating that they even forgot to take notes. Fortunately, the room had audio and video recording, so the report could be completed later.
Finally, when he described flying out of the storm cloud and having to forcibly pull the plane up due to the low altitude, one of the officers couldn’t help but mutter, "Weren’t you afraid? In a situation that dangerous?"
"Not at all! Let me tell you, as soon as I thought about my girlfriend being on this plane and how I had to get her down safely, I was filled with infinite courage..."
I’m here to take a statement, not to be fed public displays of affection.
Nearby, a man who appeared to be a higher-ranking officer coughed, interrupting Xia Liang’s passionate speech.
"Ahem..."
Hearing the cough, Xia Liang snapped back to the present and continued his story. The entire account was truly harrowing, giving both listeners goosebumps.
The debriefing lasted for a full hour. Throughout his story, the officers would circle back to certain details, checking for any inconsistencies in his narrative. This wasn’t them looking for trouble; it was just a necessary part of the procedure, and Xia Liang didn’t mind.
When he finally walked out, the sky was already beginning to lighten.
"Are you okay?" Tong Dongnuan asked, running over as soon as she saw him.
"I’m fine. Don’t worry, it’s all over now."
"Phew..." Tong Dongnuan breathed a sigh of relief.
Xia Liang grabbed his suitcase and patted her on the head. "Let’s get going. The hotel we booked is still an hour’s drive from here."
"Okay, let’s go."
They had just started to walk away from the police station, luggage in tow, when a voice called out from behind them.
"Mr. Xia Liang, please wait a moment!"
They turned to see a woman in her thirties, wearing a professional suit and black-framed glasses, hurrying toward them. Xia Liang looked at her, puzzled.
"Whew..." The woman caught her breath as she reached him. "Hello, Mister Xia. My name is Zhao Li, and I’m a manager with Southern Airlines."
Xia Liang gave a cool nod. "Is there something I can help you with?"
Hearing his slightly detached tone, Zhao Li paid it no mind. She glanced at the two of them and continued, "I see you and your friend are here to travel to the island. The hotel you’ve booked must be quite far from the airport, correct?"
"That’s right." Xia Liang nodded, not particularly surprised she had figured that out.
