I Can Contract Beauties-Chapter 34: Valuable Information Source
The beasts were different from how the grimoire and summoners rank up. The latter two could only increase their rank or grade through battles, but beasts can also rely on consuming items or natural treasures found in the wild to increase their rank and grade. In return, this also meant that increasing their rank was not as easy and swift compared to the summoners.
Aside from very common beasts and beasts that have been studied already, most beasts’ evolutionary path was actually unknown to everyone else. One would only be able to learn of it through trial and error, or by pure luck.
When it comes to evolution, it also doesn’t always end in positive results. If a summoner made a mistake and let its contracted beast consume items randomly, there were chances that they would evolve backwards instead.
For example, if a fire attributed beast consumed a water attributed item, there were chances that it would evolve into a non-attributed beast that was much weaker compared to its previous version..
For others, they could only rely on the knowledge of their predecessors if they wanted to guarantee the evolution path of their beast. However, for Miguel who has an overpowered Innate Skill, this has become a quite easy thing to do.
The Volcanic Tortoise’s known evolutionary path was for it to continue consuming volcanic rocks and continuously swim in lava for days when it reached Level 4 Bronze Grade. After bathing in lava for a few days, the Bronze Grade Volcanic Tortoise would then evolve into a Silver Grade Twin-Volcanic Tortoise. By then, it would have reached its peak grade and would no longer be able to evolve nor increase its grade once again. It would only be able to rank up its level by then for it to continue to grow stronger.
However, Miguel was obviously not satisfied with such a limiting evolutionary path. He already has a Gold Rank Fiery Empress, why would he still waste his time nurturing a tortoise with a mere Silver Grade potential?
At first, Miguel actually planned to ditch this tortoise in the future. However, when he saw that it has another evolutionary path, he discarded the idea and decided to keep it and nurture it to become stronger.
According to the knowledge he got about the tortoise’s origin, Miguel learned that the Volcanic Tortoise’s ancestors were actually very powerful. They traced back to an unknown era where humongous wild beasts still roamed the world. Back then, even with other humongous beasts around, the Volcanic Tortoise’s ancestor was still a terrifying existence.
Four-Element Devouring Tortoise!
This was the name of the Volcanic Tortoise’s ancestor.
Of course, in order to reach that strength, the Volcanic Tortoise would still need to undergo a lot of evolutionary process. He was not in a rush though. However, he was confident of making the tortoise reach that level in the future. With his Innate Skill and many other advantages over others, if he could not do so, then he should just die again and stay three feet below ground for eternity.
Miguel only nodded his head towards Marcel and did not tell him about this discovery. It involved the matter regarding his Innate Skill after all.
Anyways, he unsummoned the Volcanic Tortoise back to the grimoire to let it rest.
As it was only a spar, Miguel did not receive any experience points from the battle. Only when the world’s will determined the battle as something serious would it reward the participants according to the performance.
Miguel retracted the grimoire along with the Volcanic Tortoise. Due to the limitation of one type of summon per day, he could only summon the Volcanic Tortoise for the entire day today. 𝓯𝓻𝓮𝙚𝙬𝓮𝙗𝒏𝙤𝒗𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝒐𝓶
There was no need to declare the winner of the match as it was very clear who won that battle.
Erika sighed in depression as she handed a thick book to Miguel that she took out from the brown pouch on her waist, "As agreed, this is your reward for agreeing to my request. This book lists all of the known beasts in Blazing Expanse and where they can be found. This is only the first edition though and only lists beasts who are Level 4 Silver Grade and below, with a select few known Gold Grade beasts in forbidden areas."
"Anyways, at our current level, we don’t need the second edition anyways," she continued as she handed the book to Miguel with a depressed sigh.
This book was actually very expensive. It cost her 5,000 Gold Coins to buy this used book from one of the seniors of her school before. 5,000 Gold Coins was already a huge amount of money.
In comparison, it was already equivalent to the value of 5 Old Fire Yak.
For someone like her who was only at Apprentice Rank that can only summon one type of beast per day, it was actually very difficult to defeat a Level 3 wild beast like the Old Fire Yak. Her current Innate Beast was still at Level 2 Normal Grade, hence, she saved up a lot of money and even asked her father for help to buy the Bronze Grade Red Sparrow as her second summon.
Miguel also did not waste any more time lingering in the red manor for too long. He had already accomplished his goal of being here so he immediately made his way home. Like a child who was excited to open his present, Miguel was also excited about the newly obtained book.
For the others, this book might be just like simple illustrations of beasts, but for Miguel, this was a very valuable source of information that he basically obtained for free.
Miguel was about to return home peacefully, however, Gasper’s rough voice suddenly echoed in the area.
Erika has a questioning face, while Marcel hissed unnaturally hearing his nephew’s voice.
On the other hand, a frown surfaced on Miguel’s face as he stared at the oncoming figure of Gasper.
