I Can Hear the Heart's Voice of Traditional Chinese Medicine-Chapter 271 - 120: Lu Xuan, Are You Here at United South for a Checkup?
"Teacher, I'll go take a rest first."
Zhou Jiande kept referring to him as "Teacher," and Lu Xuan didn't say much, just letting it be.
However, before Zhou Jiande left, seeing that Lu Xuan planned to rest in the clinic, he said, "Teacher, United South has a dedicated place for resting, but you might need to bring your own bedding and such."
"Teacher Wu mentioned it to me. I plan to bring it next week when I come to sit in the clinic. Today, I'll just make do in the clinic."
Zhou Jiande glanced at the clinic's simple setting and said, "Teacher, I have a new set of bedding. Why don't you use it? There's not even a bed here. How can you rest?"
"It's fine. I can just lay my head on the desk for a while. Besides, I probably won't have any patients this afternoon, so whether I sleep or not doesn't matter."
Lu Xuan declined Zhou Jiande's kindness, waving his hand, "Alright, Old... Old Zhou, you go rest first."
"It's quite late already. You'll have to get up for the clinic at 1:30 PM. You might not even get half an hour of rest."
After Lu Xuan spoke, he glanced at the clock on the wall, which showed 12:37. There was less than an hour until the afternoon clinic, which included time to reach the resting place, fall asleep, and get up at least ten minutes early. It was uncertain if he could even rest for half an hour.
A nap shouldn't be too long, but an overly short rest could clearly affect the afternoon's mental state.
Seeing Lu Xuan's insistence, Zhou Jiande didn't press further. After saying goodbye, he closed the door of Clinic 249 and caught up with the departing trio of Huang Beishan.
"Dr. Lu didn't come?" Seeing Zhou Jiande alone, Ye Haishen couldn't help but ask.
"No."
Zhou Jiande shook his head, "Since it's his first time here today, he didn't bring any bedding. He said he would just rest in the clinic for a while."
"Don't you have a new set that's unused?"
"I offered, but he politely declined."
"Dr. Lu just got here, so it's normal for him not to be familiar with us yet. Refusing now makes sense; things will get better over time."
"I thought the same."
Zhou Jiande pondered, "Although I think the teacher is quite nice, I don't know much about his character. I don't want to say too much in case it backfires."
The four chatted intermittently as they walked towards the resting room.
Back at Clinic 249.
Once Zhou Jiande left, Lu Xuan lay down on the desk for a while.
After almost half an hour, Lu Xuan got up and headed to the restroom on the second floor.
"Lu... Xuan?"
While washing up, Lu Xuan suddenly felt someone pat him on the back. Instinctively, he turned to look.
Gu Huahua walked out of the restroom, intending to wash his face to quickly wake up. As he approached the sink, he noticed that the back of the person in front of the other sink looked familiar, so he impulsively patted them.
He immediately regretted it.
If he had mistaken the person, it would be awkward.
But as soon as he saw the young man at the sink clearly, his worried expression vanished, replaced by surprise: "Lu Xuan, it really is you! I thought you looked familiar, so I just patted you on a whim. I was afraid I'd got the wrong person."
Gu Huahua!
Lu Xuan wiped the water off his face and opened his eyes to see that it was indeed Gu Huahua, his college classmate, standing before him. He couldn't help but smile.
Though they weren't as close as he was with Ji Xiuwen, they had no conflicts during college, so he was happy to see him.
"You actually came to United South!"
"I heard from Ji Xiuwen that you'd be at United South Chinese Medicine Association starting this Saturday, assisting Elder Zhang. I thought I might bump into you if I came today, and here we are."
"By the way, Lu Xuan, what brings you to the United South Chinese Medicine Association?"
Gu Huahua asked curiously, hooking his arm around Lu Xuan's shoulder as they walked out.
Lu Xuan opened his mouth, about to explain he was here for clinic duty. But then Gu Huahua seemed to notice something, and his expression changed, "Lu Xuan, Elder Zhang is at the clinic. I won't say more for now. Let's chat later."
At United South Chinese Medicine Association, it was Gu Huahua's first report, so naturally, he was cautious not to be late.
He originally planned to get up early and prepare before Zhang Jingcai arrived at the clinic. But after encountering Lu Xuan in the restroom and chatting, he realized Elder Zhang had already entered the clinic, which made him a bit anxious.
On his first day, although he wasn't late in the morning, he only arrived after Elder Zhang entered the clinic, possibly leaving a bad impression.
He wanted to make up for it in the afternoon, but ended up repeating the morning's blunder.
Even though he wanted to chat more with his old classmate, Gu Huahua didn't have the mind for it now. After saying a word to Lu Xuan, he hurriedly headed to Clinic 215.
Watching Gu Huahua rush into Clinic 215, Lu Xuan had no choice but to lower his raised hand, muttering to himself, "Well, we'll talk after work."
Though he said that, after work, they might not have a chance to meet.
This afternoon, he had no appointments, but Elder Zhang had around seventy patients. If things went slowly, working overtime was inevitable. By the time he finished work and left, Gu Huahua might still be here working overtime with Elder Zhang.
