I Can Hear the Heart's Voice of Traditional Chinese Medicine-Chapter 319 - 141: With Righteousness Within, Evil Cannot Invade_2
Lu Xuan didn’t understand why Ji Xiuwen brought this up, but he nodded nevertheless, "I remember."
"To be honest, I didn’t feel much about the report at the time, but after hearing what you just said, it really touched me deeply."
Ji Xiuwen sighed with emotion and then recalled, "I still remember that the report mentioned the woman’s tumor had a diameter of about 2 centimeters, which means it was discovered at an ’early to mid-stage’ and wasn’t very serious.
Cancerous tumors under one centimeter couldn’t be detected by the instruments of the time; it was only when they were over three centimeters that they were easily found, but by then it was also ’late stage’ and faced the problem of spreading, which was more serious.
Logically speaking, a 2-centimeter tumor in this woman at that time should have been very easy to treat.
Actually, even without any treatment, according to the average time between the discovery and death of breast cancer according to Western medicine, it’s 12 years. This woman should have lived longer than that because she was a patient with ’early detection and early treatment of breast cancer.’
But in just three years, Western medicine had managed to kill her through removal.
Every time a tumor was removed, it would quickly ’recur and metastasize,’ so another removal was needed. Over three years, she underwent removal more than thirty times until she ’died from failed resuscitation,’ essentially being treated to death."
"38 times." Lu Xuan clearly remembered that number.
To be honest, at the time, even though he didn’t express any sentiment, he was deeply moved.
A person went through surgery thirty-eight times and eventually died from untreatable conditions. It would have been better not to treat and to live longer without enduring the pains of surgery.
"Yes, 38 times, I didn’t expect you to remember so clearly."
Ji Xiuwen glanced unconsciously at Lu Xuan and said, "I think a normal person would die under the ordeal of incessant surgeries, removing normal tissues over three years, and doing it 38 times over."
Before, I just thought the woman was a bit pitiful, but today, I suddenly realized that the woman didn’t die of breast cancer at all; she was killed by the hands of an incompetent doctor.
Clearly, it was Western medicine that treated her to death, but when Western medicine reported this case, they did not reflect on their treatment errors. Instead, they used this case to illustrate that while traditionally cancer is considered to metastasize at over three centimeters, this case "proves" a two-centimeter cancer can also metastasize.
They did not reflect on the ineffectiveness of the treatment method, did not stop the surgical removals, but instead decided to "act even earlier"—such as if the cancer is "detected and removed promptly" when it’s one centimeter.
This is the Western strategy of "regular examinations, early detection, and early treatment."
Now I think of what you said before, that as long as you can eat and drink well, sleep soundly, and aren’t feeling unwell, there’s really no need for any examination.
I agree with you that in terms of surgery, Western medicine is far superior to Chinese medicine, but similarly, using health-destroying, evil-inducing ’treatment methods’ to treat an ’evil illness’ is essentially ’inviting the wolf into the house,’ ’cutting away flesh to cure sores,’ a fast route to suicide.
Moreover, chemotherapy and radiotherapy themselves are also forms of chronic suicide, strategies that harm eight hundred foes while damaging eight thousand of one’s own.
Not considering the reasons why cancer cells develop, not eliminating those causes, but trying to obliterate the subsequent results; isn’t it laughably and foolishly like ’boiling soup to stop the boil’?"
"So, the real treatment for cancer focuses on consolidating the root and cultivating the foundation!" Lu Xuan’s resolute voice echoed in the clinic right after Ji Xiuwen spoke.
"Based on the Taoist life principle that ’the greatest healer of life is not doctors, but life itself,’ the human body has its own operating rules. Once the body faces a major threat, the first step we must take is ’support the root and consolidate the foundation,’ making the body stronger so that it can automatically solve the problems.
The Medical Scripture says: ’When the righteous Qi resides inside, evil cannot invade. Where evil congregates, the Qi must be deficient.’"
Therefore, how to cultivate the body’s ’righteous Qi’ is the principal concern of authentic Chinese medicine."
The word "authentic" was emphasized heavily by Lu Xuan.
Nowadays, though many are studying Chinese medicine, very few can be truly called authentic.
Most doctors study a combination of Chinese and Western medicine.
The product of this combination inevitably affects doctors’ judgment of diseases. However, Lu Xuan also understands that this situation is unavoidable since all assessments of Chinese medicine follow the Western medical system; even if one doesn’t want to learn Western medicine, to practice medicine, heal the sick, and save lives, one has to learn the Western medical system.
Even those from families of Chinese medicine practitioners inevitably come into contact with some Western medicine; those truly called authentic might not even number dozens nationwide.
Even Lu Xuan himself cannot be labeled with the word authentic.
However, after acquiring the miraculous ability of Heart’s Voice, he is progressing step by step towards "authenticity."
Both Su Kenan and Ji Xiuwen nodded thoughtfully after listening.
And Lu Xuan continued, "The core idea of Taoist medicine and health preservation is nothing more than ’cultivating righteous Qi.’ The so-called ’three grades of supreme medicine: essence, Qi, and spirit,’ if all medical treatments do not target this goal, they are wrong."
The body’s ’righteous Qi’ requires the cooperation of multiple factors. With all five elements in harmony and all five viscera healthy, of course, ’righteous Qi resides inside.’
However, almost all serious patients have issues in the five viscera to varying degrees. Where to start diagnoses becomes a problem worthy of pondering over and it’s something we as Chinese medicine practitioners need to carefully consider and accurately diagnose.
What is this ’root’ of the human body? What is the most crucial link in treating the human body?
The Inner Canon actually mentioned long ago: ’The five viscera receive Qi from the stomach.’ Cultivating the body’s nutritive and defensive Qi is the overall principle of treatment. The interaction of the five elements inside the body ensures the healthy operation of the body; among the five elements, earth is fundamental.
Earth nurtures all things, is central, is the core, is the foundation of all life’s growth and transformation.
For humans, earth is the postnatal root, the source of life. Hence, consolidating the root and supporting the origin begins with protecting the body’s ’earth Qi,’ that is, the Qi of the spleen and stomach.
I have mentioned before some ancient medical views in this regard, "If a person has stomach Qi, they will live; without stomach Qi, they will die," it’s about this reasoning.
If a person loses the ability to eat or the digestive system has problems, even a minor illness cannot be cured. Hence, the ancient medical ’medical taboo’ was: as soon as they discovered the patient couldn’t initiate stomach Qi, they would decline treatment."
At this point, Lu Xuan paused before continuing, "This naturally leads to a point where we say to treat the spleen first in treating diseases; for some critically ill patients, a wise practitioner will absolutely not ’treat the disease’ first and will not use aggressive medicines to forcefully expel the illness.
The approach is to first use various kinds of ’Qi Replenishing Soup,’ to first regulate the patient’s spleen meridian system, cultivate the primordial Qi, and then proceed with treatment.
To put it simply, Chinese medicine doesn’t treat the disease, but rather the central Qi.
This is a core fact that has always been emphasized by classics such as the Inner Canon, Cold Pathogenic Disease, and Essential Prescriptions of the Golden Cabinet, which describes the principle of Chinese-style medicine. Frankly, it is more scientific than Western medicine’s stubborn approach of fighting directly against diseases regardless of circumstances.
One should know, the human body inherently has self-healing abilities, which are much more effective than any medicine or surgery, and what we need to do is to activate the body’s self-healing abilities to let it protect itself."
Within the Medical Scripture, there’s a saying: ’The spleen governs transport and transformation, and the ascending of clearness; all swelling due to dampness belongs to the spleen.’
What does it mean?
If the spleen’s function to transport and transform is strong, there won’t be excess tissues in the body. Naturally, there would be no ’malignant tissues’ either. Or even if they exist, they will be ’vaporized.’
This equates to what Western medicine refers to as ’being absorbed.’
Moreover, if the spleen’s function is robust, it ensures the proper functioning of other systems, making it less likely to fall ill. Even if minor issues exist, the body can quickly heal through its operations.
This is what we often say: ’When the righteous Qi resides inside, evil cannot invade.’
And this exactly reflects why Western medicine struggles to cure cancer because those seemingly strong treatments are actually damaging this righteous Qi of the human body."
