"This young brother speaks truly; cultivation is primarily about sincerity."

A voice sounded, and Tian Lin and the remaining Huahua Lang turned around, only to see a black-robed elder leisurely walking toward them.
After sweeping his gaze over them, his tone changed as he added, "However, if you choose the wrong path and seek the wrong immortal, sincerity alone is useless."
The experienced Huahua Lang looked at the elder with wary faces and asked, "Who are you?"
The black-robed elder smiled. He stretched his right hand out from his sleeve, and a wisp of flame suddenly lit up in his palm, quickly extinguished by the mountain breeze.
Still wearing a proud expression, he said, "I too, was once a Huahua Lang."
"Are you an Immortal Master?"
The eyes of the Huahua Lang heated up as they looked at the black-robed elder with a mix of anticipation and reverence.
The black-robed elder withdrew his right hand and, stroking his beard with his left, stated atop the cliff, "Although I am not quite there yet, I'll soon be a great cultivator capable of Qi Cultivation on the first level."
The Huahua Lang exchanged glances, afraid that the black-robed elder before them was a swindler.
For in the lands far and wide, there were too many who deceived Huahua Lang to toil in mines or serve as laborers.
"I know what you are thinking," the old man continued, "you just fear I am deceiving you into mining or laboring."
After he finished, Tian Lin asked, "Then, what does the Immortal Master want with us?"
"I have a good place to introduce to you, going to the merchant's fortress to mine for our eastern employers."
The faces of those present turned pale as the black-robed elder added, "Our merchant's fortress deals with the Yao Yue Sect. While mining there, not only can you practice Immortal Law, but you may even have the chance to become a servant disciple of the Yao Yue Sect."
He further explained, "Our merchant's young master is an Outer Disciple in the Yao Yue Sect; our lord is a cultivator, capable of the fourth level of Qi Cultivation. If you possess the talent for cultivation, you can be like me in less than ten years."
With that, he extended his right hand from his sleeve once more, with a wisp of flame dancing in his palm, quickly extinguished again by the mountain wind.
The people atop the cliff looked at each other, their hearts stirred despite the seeming simplicity of the matter.
To practice Immortal Law, wasn't that what they had been tirelessly pursuing?
"I'm telling you, miss this village, and there won't be this store," said the black-robed elder sternly, his gaze focusing on the most hesitant Tian Lin.
"Alright, then we will follow the senior."
Tian Lin did not want to go with the black-robed elder, but his instincts told him this was not a matter for discussion.
"Very well, you lot come with me."
The black-robed elder turned and led the way with quick steps.
After exchanging glances, the Huahua Lang gritted their teeth and said, "Let's go. Even if we mine, we'll have something to eat, and besides, there's a chance to cultivate!"
No longer hesitating, they followed the black-robed elder who, looking back at Tian Lin who had not moved, frowned and said, "You brat, what are you daydreaming about?"
"Brat?"
The nickname was too familiar; Tian Lin thought the old man across the cliff had come back to life.
He turned to look across the cliff, only to see the old man's head still there.
Hearing the black-robed elder's urging, Tian Lin hesitated no longer and quickly followed the elder's steps.
By now, it was dark, and the mountain path to the cliff top was littered with the discarded worn shoes and hand sticks of the Huahua Lang. Ahead, the black-robed elder said:
"You encountering me, consider it good luck. What's so great about being a Huahua Lang, enduring the wind and sleeping outdoors, where can you find any chances for cultivation?"
"Besides, Yao Yue Sect only recruits disciples who are well-off and have trained their bodies from a young age. You outsiders, skin and bones, how would the Immortal Masters of the immortal gate ever take notice of you?"
As he spoke, the group had followed him to the foot of the mountain, where surprisingly, there were several hundred Huahua Langs.
These Huahua Langs stood there like beggars, motionless.
A few men in black on horses held whips, snapping them at those who stepped out of line.
One of the men in black pointed with his whip at Tian Lin and his group: "Stand in the front, we will be leaving soon."
Tian Lin glanced at the whip in the man's hand and the knife at his waist, and he stepped towards the line.
Someone in the line whispered, "Kid, come over here."
Tian Lin looked over in surprise, only to see Zhang Lao Da, his hair disheveled, waving at him.
With a 'snap', a whip came down on Zhang Lao Da's shoulder, but the one who cried out in pain was someone behind him.
The man, clutching his split open face, said, "My lords, your whip hit me too."
The man in black, with a cold face, said from atop his horse, "Then why didn't you keep him quiet? Still have the nerve to talk back? Asking for a beating."
Before the man could plead for mercy, the whip of the man in black had wrapped around his neck, pulling him from the line and brutally smashing him against the nearby rock wall.
The crowd saw the man's body hit the rock wall and instantly fall to the ground, dead.
This scene stirred unrest among the 'beggar line,' as the man on horseback collected his whip and said:
"When we get to the merchant's fortress, don't say what you shouldn't say, don't ask what you shouldn't ask; if your loose tongues anger the lords, this fool's fate will be yours!"
After finishing his speech, he lightly tapped his whip and moved to the front of the line, loudly shouting on the road: "Let's go, back to the merchant's fortress!"
Upon hearing the whistle, three men in black maintained order at the front, middle, and back.
The black-robed old man who had led Tian Lin and the others down the mountain rode at the very front, singing aloud, "In the morning before the sun rises, the door opens, and my wife sends me over the stone platform—"
Perhaps due to his Qi Cultivation, although the old man was not young, his voice was loud and clear, echoing through the valleys on both sides of the road.
"Zhang Lao Da, didn't you go up the mountain during the day?"
Tian Lin waited until the man in black moved away, then turned to quietly ask Zhang Lao Da.
"Heh, why bother with the mountain? I knew from the start that entering the immortal gate of Yao Yue Sect wouldn't be easy."
Tian Lin couldn't help getting a bit angry upon hearing this: "Then why did you still bring so many people to go up the mountain to their deaths?"
"How can you blame me for this? They wanted to find the immortal gate, and I happened to know where the Yao Yue Sect was; they asked me to lead them to the immortal gate, I just helped them out—"
Zhang Lao Da said, "Look at you, that old man must have died this time, right? Actually, it's better that he's dead, he was already over seventy, what else was he waiting for? This is the fate of a Huahua Lang."
At this point in the conversation, a few men in black joined in singing: "We Huahua Langs, travel all across—"
"I don't blame you for the old man's death, that was his destiny; I just want to know why you're here?"
Zhang Lao Da glanced at the singing men in black ahead and then whispered to Tian Lin:
"That the merchant's fortress is involved in cultivation is fake, because the merchant's fortress won't teach Qi Cultivation to outsiders; but that the merchant's fortress is capable of cultivation is true, because there truly is Qi Cultivation there."
Tian Lin was about to speak when someone from behind tugged at his sleeve, saying:
"Sir, I'm begging you, can you please not talk? You just caused someone's death, don't get me killed now; I still want to try cultivation."
