I Can Talk to the Internal Organs-Chapter 239 - 206: Madness
"Dr. Lu."
Zhang Yu arrived at the clinic, followed by his father, his uncle, and Zhang Xixi, who was being held up.
"What's going on here..." Lu Jiu remarked, puzzled by the scene.
Zhang Yu explained, "Dr. Lu, my sister's condition suddenly worsened. She's losing control of her emotions. Is there anything you can do to help?"
At these words, Lu Jiu turned his gaze towards Zhang Xixi.
Just from her expression and eyes, she indeed seemed a bit in a daze.
Upon closer observation, the girl's mouth was constantly muttering.
This seemed to have reached a state of mania.
Initially, based on Zhang Yu's description, Lu Jiu thought his sister might be experiencing a Heart and Kidney Imbalance, but upon seeing her in person, he realized the situation was far beyond that.
Through observation, Lu Jiu preliminarily diagnosed it as mania.
What is mania?
Mania is characterized by mental depression, indifferent expressions, silence, stupidity, incoherent speech, stillness, and lack of movement.
Manic disorder is characterized by mental excitation, violent mania, noisiness and restlessness, destructive behaviors, and excessive anger and activity.
Clinically, the symptoms of both are often present simultaneously and can convert into each other, hence they are referred to jointly as mania.
The term "mania" first appeared in the Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, Spiritual Pivot, Maniac Chapter: "When mania initially arises, there is first unhappiness, heavy and painful head, red and glaring eyes, intense as it worsens, and irritability of the heart radiates."
"In the onset of mania, there is little sleep, lack of hunger, self-perceived high virtue, argumentative wit, self-esteem, skilled insulting and cursing, day and night without rest."
When mania first manifests, the patient initially shows unhappiness, a heavy and painful head, direct gaze, red eyes, and as the condition intensifies, they become irritable and restless.
When mania strikes, the patient sleeps less, is unaware of hunger, perceives themselves as noble and virtuous, believes they are articulate and witty, feels they have high self-esteem, enjoys insulting others, and does not rest day or night.
The Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor, Essential Questions, Pulse Analysis Chapter also states, "Those with severe manic-depressive epilepsy are because Yang Qi is at the top, while Yin Qi is at the bottom, with emptiness below and fullness above, thus causing mania and epilepsy."
This means that those experiencing manic disorders and epilepsy due to excessive Yang are because Yang Qi resides in the upper body while Yin Qi is in the lower body, with emptiness below and fullness above, causing manic disorders and epilepsy.
To some extent, it's also because of a prolonged Heart and Kidney Imbalance, leading to the situation of fullness above and emptiness below, which can also be described as heat above and cold below.
This is because all manic disorders belong to fire, with the primary cause of manic episodes being the fire disturbance of the heart.
Mania belongs to Yin, where the heart is void and blood is deficient, and Yin Qi illness leads to mania.
This means that those with mania not only have a void in their heart but also a burning evil fire within, making the patient's upper body extremely hot, thus overpowering Fei Jin, leading to an imbalance of Yin and Yang, poor circulation, and the inability of Hyphoedrosis to receive fire regulated by Fei Jin, causing it to become increasingly cold.
"Bring her over here and lay her on the bed to be controlled," Lu Jiu said, apologizing to the old man who had just finished a pulse diagnosis, then took out the finest needle to give Zhang Xixi acupuncture, "She has clothes under her pajamas, right? Okay, take off the pajamas..."
Zhang Yu's father and uncle immediately laid Zhang Xixi on a small bed, controlling her hands and feet from the front and back to prevent her from harming others.
At the same time, Zhang Yu's mother and his aunt began to take off Zhang Xixi's pajamas.
Throughout this process, Zhang Xixi resisted, muttering the filthiest words from her mouth.
Such intense reaction also drew several onlookers peeking inside, including some passersby.
"What's happening inside? Why is there a girl yelling about rape?"
"It seems like a young girl has some mental problems. Someone asked earlier, and those people outside are her relatives, who specifically brought her here for treatment."
"Really?"
"Nonsense, who would do something illegal in broad daylight with the clinic doors open?"
"Why not send her to a psychiatric hospital?"
"Don't know, but it seems like she should have been there already."
"Hey? Isn't that the family from Yale Residence?"
"You know them?"
"Well, the whole neighborhood knows; their daughter went crazy. Neighbors above and below say that this girl curses her parents daily, telling them to die, and she broke things at home. It calmed down for a while after they sent her to a psychiatric hospital, but now they brought her here. Speaking of which, since when did Traditional Chinese Medicine treat mental illness?"
"We have no idea, but Dr. Lu is very skilled, so he should have a way."
"I've never heard of it, and I have a friend in the hospital who told me that mental illnesses can only be controlled with medication and definitely can't be cured."
"Tch, with Western medicine, every disease is controlled with medication, and in the end, it's just a bunch of side effects. Are those side effects diseases? They are clearly caused by the medication."
"You're being a bit extreme."
"..."
Inside the clinic, after Zhang Xixi's pajamas were removed, Lu Jiu immediately administered needles.
Renzhong, Fengfu, Divine Gate, Laogong, Daling, Abundant Bulge.
The process was challenging, especially since the Fengfu point is located at the back of the head, so Lu Jiu had to direct others to hold her in a side-lying position.
Fortunately, Zhang Xixi's physical strength was limited. After struggling for a few minutes, only her mouth still had energy to move, as her body had grown weary.
Moreover, once the needles were in place, Zhang Xixi's condition underwent a subtle transformation.
First, she ceased being restless and agitated, gradually calming down emotionally. Then, her eyelids grew heavy with a hint of drowsiness.
This was actually the effect of point pairing, with Renzhong and Fengfu belonging to the Du Meridian. The Du Meridian enters the brain, and acupuncture at these points can awaken the brain and calm the spirit.
The Divine Gate is also the original point of the heart, thus nourishing and calming the mind; plus, Lu Jiu's acupuncture naturally has the effect of tuning the spirit.
Therefore, with the acupuncture, Zhang Xixi's mind stopped being confused and as clarity gradually took precedence, the physical exhaustion from her previous hysteria began feeding back to her heart. This undoubtedly activated the body's self-protection mechanism, involuntarily leading her into sleep to allow for bodily recovery.
Phew~
"Alright, you can let go now!" Lu Jiu saw Zhang Xixi close her eyes and then informed Zhang Yu's relatives.
Witnessing Zhang Xixi's reaction, they were extremely amazed.
Particularly her parents. When they initially sent Zhang Xixi to Hidden Dragon City Hospital, the doctors there had to exert significant effort and, in the end, had to administer tranquilizers to control her.
However, when Zhang Xixi regained consciousness, they could notably feel that her speech and reactions were half a beat slow, which was said to be a side effect of the tranquilizers.
As for whether acupuncture has side effects, they didn't know, nor did they dare to ask.
After the acupuncture, Lu Jiu placed his hand on Zhang Xixi's wrist.
The next moment, the voices of the Five Viscera appeared in Lu Jiu's mind.
"Finally, some peace. It's been unbearable. Every time she has an episode, the anger makes me uncomfortable to death. If this keeps up, my detoxification function will deteriorate and the phlegm evil will never be expelled, it's driving me mad!" Liver Wood said.
"Even the Qi isn't circulating smoothly," Fei Jin said.
"It's not just the Qi, isn't the blood blocked too? I tried several times to send blood to the brain, but it couldn't get through. Heart Fire is too weak to help, and Hydronephrosis too, cold as death, causing my ascending force to diminish," Liver Wood said.
"No way, everything's chaotic now. She doesn't sleep well at night and our functions can't recover," Spleen Earth said.
"Who was it that helped us earlier? I felt that force altering the circulation of Qi. If it were before, it would be impossible for her to fall asleep so quickly after an episode," Fei Jin said.
"It was a doctor," Liver Wood said.
"But why didn't I feel any medicine coming in?" Spleen Earth asked.
"He didn't use medicine; he used needles," Liver Wood said. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢
"Needles!?" Spleen Earth said, "Heart Fire, Heart Fire, do you know what that is?"
"Don't bother me, I'm tired and need to rest. If you're noisy, none of you will survive," Heart Fire said.
