Lupus?

This disease generally isn't fatal.

So when Lu Jiu heard about it, he didn't have any special reaction.

"How old is your friend?" Lu Jiu asked.

"Twenty-seven," Qiao Ling replied.

"When did she get it?" Lu Jiu asked.

"Well, it was around a month into her pregnancy. It's been five or six months now, and she's currently in the hospital. She's feeling really uncomfortable right now. The disease doesn't affect childbirth, but she has to stop her medication because it affects the baby. But stopping the medication makes her feel especially bad, and she feels her condition is worse now than before she took the medicine. I was hoping, Dr. Lu, you could help her." Qiao Ling said.

"My suggestion is to have her come by herself. Whether or not I can treat her depends on the specifics. It's not like you can just give me a disease name and I can make a judgment; that's not possible. Also, you're just her friend, and it wouldn't be right to help too much in this matter. What if she comes and I can't help her?" Lu Jiu said.

"That's not going to happen. I trust you, Dr. Lu." Qiao Ling said.

Lu Jiu laughed, "I know you trust me. How about this: go back and tell your friend that as long as she comes over, I'll promise to take a look at her. But whether or not I can help will depend on the diagnosis."

Qiao Ling was overjoyed, "Okay, I'll go and tell her to come over. Thanks, Dr. Lu."

With that, Qiao Ling waved goodbye to Lu Jiu and left.

Lu Jiu watched her get into a car, then glanced down at his little electric scooter.

As the head of a hospital, going to work on a little electric scooter seemed a bit too frugal.

Too bad, though; he really didn't have any money!

Even if he had money, he wouldn't buy a car.

Jianghan City is just a small place where a round trip takes only half an hour by car. Is there really a need to buy one?

Apparently not!

Anyway, he no longer had the pressure to earn money, so he should naturally spend his money where it matters.

After going home, Lu Jiu had something to eat.

Then he went to a store and bought some children's items.

After buying everything, he loaded all the bags onto his little electric scooter. The front basket, the middle footboard, and the rear seat—every space that could be filled was filled, and what couldn't be packed was tied to the scooter.

Before long, the fully loaded electric scooter stopped at the entrance of the Jianghan Welfare Institute.

"Dr. Lu?"

The caregiver at the welfare institute immediately recognized Lu Jiu.

Even though it was already late.

"Sister Min, could you give me a hand? There's a lot of stuff," Lu Jiu said with a smile.

Xue Min came forward immediately, helping Lu Jiu carry several bags.

"What is all this?" Xue Min asked.

"Just some daily necessities for kids. The last time I came here, they didn't have many clothes to change into. Spring is coming, the weather will soon warm up, so I got some clothes, as well as some towels, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and cups," Lu Jiu explained.

"Dr. Lu, this is too generous of you," Xue Min frowned.

"Consider it a donation from me. These kids were abandoned by their parents; the welfare institute can't manage everything alone. I heard from Dean Zhu that there haven't been many donations in recent years. This will help a little," Lu Jiu said.

"Dr. Lu, you already provide free medical care for these kids; you've done enough. All these extra things..." Xue Min thought Lu Jiu had done too much.

"No worries. I've got more money than I know what to do with," Lu Jiu joked.

Xue Min couldn't help but laugh at this.

Lu Jiu definitely didn't look like a rich heir; otherwise, he wouldn't be riding a little scooter everywhere.

But since Lu Jiu said so, Xue Min sensibly said no more.

Once they moved all the items to the backyard of the welfare institute, Lu Jiu also went to the room where the children with cerebral palsy lived.

After several treatments, these children showed significant physical recovery. At least half of them could now crawl freely on their beds.

Seeing this, Lu Jiu was particularly happy.

"Dean Lu, you're here," Zhu Shaodan had rushed to the welfare institute after receiving a call from Xue Min.

Recently, doctors from Lu Jiu TCM Hospital had been coming over frequently to treat these children, something the dean had noted with appreciation.

She knew the reason these doctors came to help the children with cerebral palsy at the welfare institute was largely because of this young man in front of her.

"Dean Zhu, these children are recovering well, aren't they?" Lu Jiu said with a smile.

Zhu Shaodan smiled, "Yes, they're recovering really well. Over the past week or so, they've shown the most noticeable improvement. You wouldn't believe it, a few days ago, a caregiver saw Xiaohua, the skinny youngest one, suddenly able to crawl on the bed by himself, and she burst into tears."

"That caregiver has been coming here for over a decade; she used to help out only on weekends before she retired. After retiring, she became a regular caregiver here, without asking for any pay, spending her own salary to care for these children."

"To put it simply, she treats these kids almost as if they were her own. Watching them slowly improve, she is the most excited and happiest."

"Honestly, we never imagined these children would get better; we just hoped someone would look after them until we were gone. With your help now, truly, we are so very grateful!"

Lu Jiu smiled, "As long as there's progress, things will only get better."

Zhu Shaodan wiped away her tears, her eyes red but smiling, "I hope these kids will be able to support themselves in the future."

Lu Jiu nodded, "By the way, Dean Zhu, do you know anyone at the Disability Federation?"

Zhu Shaodan said, "I know the president of the Disability Federation. We've had many dealings; he's a responsible person."

Lu Jiu said, "The thing is, every doctor at our hospital has a free clinic duty, and I hope we can also liaise with the Disability Federation to see if we can help some disabled individuals."

Disabled individuals form a large group.

Some have physical issues, like a leg that can't walk, while others have problems with speech, hearing, vision, etc. If their conditions aren't too severe, traditional Chinese medicine might be able to help adjust them.

Even if not cured, it can at least alleviate some pain to a certain extent, although, for very severe cases, there's not much that can be done.

But since it's a charitable clinic, presumably those who don't get treated won't be too harsh on them.

Upon hearing this, Zhu Shaodan's eyes lit up, "Really? You want to help the disabled community too?"

Lu Jiu chuckled, "We won't be able to help too many people, partly because the illnesses can be quite complex and partly because we don't have enough staff..."

Zhu Shaodan could easily understand what Lu Jiu meant, "I get it, don't worry, I'll coordinate this."

Lu Jiu smiled, "Thanks a lot."

Actually, after seeing the great effect of that previous TV promotion, Lu Jiu decided to leverage the credibility of traditional media again.

So how to leverage it?

Of course, there needs to be a news angle.

And doing charity work is a perfect news angle.

What Lu Jiu is doing now is essentially handing the pen to the TV station reporters; they just need to write about a series of actions taken by Lu Jiu and his hospital doctors.

All that's left is to wait for the publicity to ferment.

This way, the hospital can gain recognition from the entire population of Jianghan City in a very short time.

A single report could fill his small clinic to the brim, causing traffic jams; what would another report do for Lu Jiu TCM Hospital?

...
