Chapter 226: Legends of the Ocean Part Two

Chu Xian continued flipping through the book, and Hong Chenghai peered over his shoulder curiously. He kept adjusting his posture; as a person inside the system, he was not as relaxed as Chu Xian.

“Greetings to the Chiefs!”

A few minutes later, Hong Chenghai shot upright and called out loudly in greeting to a group of people entering the room.

Chu Xian raised his head and stood up as well.He nodded to the three older men and one middle-aged man. “Hello Chiefs.”

“Okay, okay. You don’t need to be so formal. We’re using our status as ordinary people to thank you two today. It’s only because we have some special duties that we couldn’t go to you to thank you today, and I hope you don’t mind that we’ve had you come all this way.” The old man standing at the center of the group chuckled and replied. He wore magnanimity like a cloak.

Hong Chenghai looked to this old man with excitement and trepidation and hurriedly nodded.

“And you must be Chu Xian, little brother Chu? This time we are really in your debt.” At that moment, one of the other old men stepped forward and greeted enthusiastically, extending a hand. “If this little brother did not pass by us and inform our people, we would really have slept there at the sea bottom forever.”

“That’s right. This time we’ve had this little brother come over so that we could express our gratitude.”

“Nice to meet you. I am Fa Daiyue. I pilot the nuclear submarine you encountered this time, and you’ve saved my life.

The other two old men and the middle aged men also came around to shake Chu Xian’s hand and thank him.

“I was also luck to have passed by.” Chu Xian smiled at the group.

“Your lucky passing saved our lives, and truthfully you prevented a loss and saved us from unimaginable damage. Little brother, since you aren’t part of our organization we are not able to easily award you. Even if we give money, it looks like maybe little brother will not need it. In the future, if you have any trouble that we can help with, you just need to let us know.” The old man standing in the middle of the group replied in a frank manner.

Happiness flashed across Chu Xian’s eyes and he nodded. Although he did not recognize this old man and did not know his identity, just from Hong Chenghai’s reaction he could tell that this man was very important. A promise from this powerful man carried incredible weighty.

“Little brother, you are a fisherman by trade?” The smiling old man sat down and asked.

“It’s part of what I do. I have my own ship and a fishing farm.” Chu Xian nodded in reply. He did not know what common topic they could talk about, and did not really know what to say.

“Oh, and how are your catches lately? The fish in the Yellow Sea seems to have fallen a lot. Years ago when we went out in the submarine, I often saw schools of fish, but now they are quite rare.” The old man shook his head slightly as he spoke.

“It’s alright. I don’t make my money by catchign fish, I mainly focus on retrieving coral from the sea bottom and selling that.” Chu Xian smiled and replied.

“Hehe, I’ve heard about this. Little brother is quite imaginative. The resources of the sea are vast, and if you can find a way to profit, it’s not difficult to run a business.” The old man nodded.

Chu Xian smiled, and looked back at the book on the table. He asked curiously, “Chief, are the records in this book real?”

“Haha, you don’t need to call me chief. Just call me Grandapa Shi. You aren’t under my chain of command, you don’t have to be so nervous. Just speak casually.”

The old man chuckled and looked him in the face. “Do you think these are real?”

Chu Xian nodded. “Yes, I think these records are real. The photos are quite clear.”

The old man smiled. “They are real. These were all discovered by our National Ocean Research Centre. Some of them were ones that I’ve encountered. Are you curious about these matters?”

“Yes.” Chu Xian nodded. “I often go out to sea and dive into deep waters, so I’m very curious about these things. Grandpa Shi, can you tell me more about what you know?”

“Of course.” The old man nodded. “The reason I joined the Navy was because I loved the ocean and wanted to explore and wander on the seas. Now that I think back on it, hehe, I’ve been on the waters for many decades now.”

“The ocean is so vast, and covers far more area than the land. There are many creatures living in the waters, and there are quite a few of these giant monsters as well. These creatures that the scientists talk about, the Pliosaur and the Megalodon, they have not truly gone extinct.”

“The ocean is deep, and who knows what kind of monster dwells in the waters that the sun does not reach. This book catalogues some of the seabed monsters that we’ve encountered, but this is still a small portion of what we expect still exists, just the creatures we happened upon.”

“Other than the countless monsters that might live in the depths, there is also the story of the legendary Atlantis, though some of our scientists think that it’s only a sunken city. We’ve sent people to the Bermuda Triangle as well, but the waters are dark, and our vessel lost signal as soon as it entered the area and was almost lost forever.”

“The people we sent in said that they heard screaming and yelling that disturbed them to the soul. Hehe, we think that there might be some sort of monster that generates a peculiar type of sound wave. There should be quite a few extraordinary creatures living in the Bermuda Triangle.”

“All in all, the ocean is still very mysterious, and humans have not even pulled back the veil to reveal even ten percent.”

Chu Xian nodded, and then asked with curiosity again. “Then have we not been able to capture these creatures to study them?”

“Dr. Gu is more a specialist in this area. He has studied this matter for some time now.” The old man smiled and looked over at the old man wearing glasses.

“Yes this matter is one I’ve studied, but only a little.” Dr. Gu nodded. “We wanted to raise some of these giant creatures, but we haven to succeeded in cloning these creatures from their blood, but we’re inspired by the successful attempts at training elephants, so we have made some progress.”

“Some sea dwelling creatures have quite high IQ, like the dolphin the octopus, the killer whale and seals. We’ve managed to tame some of these creatures and utilize them to high effect, and they are able to manage basic interactions with humans.”

“We even managed to capture some of the babies of the King Octupus and raised them, but although they are very smart, their life span is too short and render them useless.”

Chu Xian nodded in contemplation, and then smiled at Dr. Gu. “Does this mean that some of these sea monsters can be tamed?”

“That’s right, some of these sea monsters can be tamed, but we need to start young. But this kind of situation has such low success rate that it’s basically a fairy tale, and even when they succeed, the creatures are only close to their trainer.” Dr. Gu smiled and replied.

“Do you have some tamed giant creatures?” Chu Xian asked.

“Yes. We have tamed eight killer whales, but they aren’t that useful. It’s quite difficult just to communicate with them, much less align them complicated tasks.” Dr Gu chuckled wryly.

Chu Xian nodded, but a spark filled his heart. If there was already precedence for taming these sea bed creatures, then did that mean he could reveal his Dunkleosteuses?

It was highly probable that he could.

If so, many of the things he wanted to accomplish and many of the methods he would need to use could be brought out into the open, and many of his secrets would no longer need to be hidden and secreted in the dark, but could be brought out into the light.

Chu Xian fell into deep thought.
