Chapter 90: 90 A Costly Yet Necessary Choice

"Then all of you can be buried right here."

As Marcus finished speaking, brilliant light flared at his fingertips.

The winged demon’s head was instantly swallowed by that blinding radiance.

When the light faded, only a headless corpse remained, collapsing limply to the ground.

The other demons recoiled several steps in terror.

A single strike. One demon erased.

The sheer power on display sent waves of excitement through the champions. Many of them could not help imagining their own future, standing alone like Marcus, forcing countless demons to retreat through sheer presence.

"My lord, we need to leave. Human powerhouses will arrive any moment now."

A demon flashed to the side of the demon race man and helped him up.

Unwilling fury burned in the man’s eyes as he stared straight at Zayne.

"Your name is Zayne, right? I will remember you. I am Dark Storm Arbiter, Abyss Gale Bringer, Crimson Hunter of 100000 Slaughters, the one who downs three liters of cola in ten seconds, Drimishut. One day, I will peel your skin and take your head as my trophy."

"You can barely save yourself and you still dare threaten others."

Marcus snorted coldly and struck again. A streak of dazzling light shot from his fingers.

It cut through the air like a meteor, carrying overwhelming power.

Where the light passed, the air ignited with sharp crackling sounds.

"My lord, watch out."

A demon beside Drimishut leapt forward to block the attack. The light struck him head on, instantly melting a gaping hole through his chest.

"Go."

Drimishut clenched his teeth and barked the order.

He had never expected a human capable of overpowering him, and that misjudgment had cost him too much time. Now that Marcus had arrived, lingering any longer meant disaster. This was human territory, and more reinforcements were surely on the way.

Several demons gathered around Marcus, demonic energy surging as they prepared to cover the retreat.

One of them swung its claws and charged. The sharp talons tore through the air with a piercing shriek.

Marcus’ eyes flashed. Brilliant light erupted once more.

With a flick of his finger, a beam shot forward and pierced straight through the demon’s body.

The demon froze midair, then collapsed and dissolved into black smoke.

The remaining demons showed no fear. They pressed in closer, while Drimishut was already retreating toward the rift.

"Get out of my way."

Seeing Drimishut about to escape, Marcus erupted in fury. Light exploded from his body like a miniature sun as he charged straight through the demons.

They could not withstand him and were sent flying in all directions.

Marcus was clearly determined to keep Drimishut here.

Drimishut’s expression twisted. He had severely underestimated both Marcus’ strength and his resolve.

At that moment, a pale, massive hand suddenly reached out from the rift of the Champion Secret Realm and collided head on with Marcus’ charge.

Boom.

The impact unleashed a terrifying shockwave. Ancient trees around them were severed at the waist.

Using that opening, Drimishut and the remaining demons slipped back into the rift, returning to demon territory.

As the dust settled, Marcus’ figure reappeared. His expression was grim.

"Your kind may be useless at many things, but your ability to run away is truly impressive."

"Spare the talk. If you have objections, feel free to pursue us."

From within the black rift, an old, hoarse voice echoed slowly.

"One day, warriors of Aurelion will march into the demon realm and wipe your kind from existence."

Marcus replied coldly. Then he turned and swept his gaze across the champions.

"Do you have the confidence for that day?"

"Yes!"

A thunderous roar answered him, shaking the entire Champion Secret Realm.

They were young, hot blooded, and fresh from victory. Fired up by Marcus’ words, their spirits burned fiercely.

"Hmph. I will be waiting."

The aged voice echoed one last time, then fell silent as the rift closed.

Marcus turned back and bowed deeply to all the champions.

"Champions from across Aurelion, on behalf of Bitnoris, I offer you my sincerest apology."

"Our lack of vigilance allowed the demon race an opening and nearly led to catastrophe. Rest assured, Bitnoris will compensate every one of you."

The sight left everyone shaken.

This was one of Aurelion’s most powerful Transcenders, bowing to a group of students barely past level 20.

"Lord Marcus, please do not blame yourself. This was the demons’ fault."

"That is right. Those demons were despicable."

"One day, we will drive all monsters and demons off Aurelion’s lands."

Marcus smiled and nodded.

"That day will come. For now, return and rest. The results of the Champion Secret Realm trial will be announced shortly."

Bitnoris staff soon arrived. Robert was escorted away for treatment, along with the contestants gravely injured by Drimishut.

Those uninjured were taken back to their original hotel.

When Zayne returned to his room and opened the door, he immediately noticed someone inside.

His guard shot up. His first thought was that Garen had already sent someone after him.

But when he saw the figure clearly, Zayne froze.

It was Marcus.

"Lord Marcus."

Zayne greeted him politely.

"Good. I am aware of everything that happened inside the Champion Secret Realm. You did very well. Defeating a demon with royal blood head on without injury is no small feat."

"Thank you for the praise."

Zayne could not read Marcus’ intentions and responded cautiously.

"The demon race operates on bloodline hierarchy. They are divided into ranks. Those above royal grade resemble humans closely. They can command other demons, and their power is terrifying. At the same level, they are virtually unbeatable."

Marcus explained calmly, then shifted the topic.

"Zayne, would you be interested in serving Bitnoris?"

"Me?"

Zayne pointed at himself in confusion.

"Are you sure?"

"I know you are a Forbidden Spellcaster. Cultivating one is extremely costly and inefficient. It drains resources with little return."

Marcus paused, then continued.

"But the demon race is stirring. Bitnoris needs a terrifying presence capable of deterring them."
