Chapter 59: Auction

"You said it was 10 gold coins, right?" Sin said, his eyes gazing straight into the guards.

The guard’s face was still pale as if he had just seen a ghost.

Come to think of it, Sin noticed that everyone else from before was still silent.

’Looks like they are waiting to see what I do now. They must be interested in me.’ Sin mused, shocked at the absurdity of Magnus’ influence.

A simple and short conversation--yet that was enough to propel him to a kind of infamy for a few short moments.

The guard was also influenced by Sin’s conversation with Magnus. On top of that, the pressure of everyone else staring at him to reply to Sin was also something glaringly obvious.

"No... you’re free to go inside." The guard conceded, lifting the marquee’s curtain open for Sin to enter.

’There’s no point in trying to shake this guy for cash. Magnus didn’t seem to hold him in high regard, but he didn’t bash him to shit either. Whatever their relationship, it’s higher than mine is to Magnus...’ The guard thought to himself, not wanting to take any risks.

Sin’s bottom lip curled downwards, slightly surprised and impressed at the same time. Without a second wasted, he walked into the marquee.

As he walked past the guard, the large man spoke a few last words: "I’m sorry for trying to shake you... it seems I didn’t know who you were." He closed his eyes, smiling awkwardly. 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝙬𝙚𝓫𝒏𝓸𝓿𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝙤𝓶

Sin smirked, his left brow raising again with surprise, ’Would you look at that... Magnus really is something.’

"No problem bud. Just make sure you know who you’re talking to next time." Sin patted the guard on the back as he walked inside.

The guard’s shoulders loosened. He let out a breath of relief.

’Damn... it looks like I really dodged a bullet there. Thank god Magnus arrived just in time to save me.’ The guard thought to himself.

Sin shook his head with a chuckle as he got inside of the marquee.

’I wouldn’t ever turn down the opportunity to act like a big shot.’ He laughed, ’But that guard... he must think he dodged a bullet or something.’ He found the situation hilarious.

However, his thoughts were quickly overwhelmed by the awe he felt at that moment.

Looking forward, the auction house before him nearly took his breath away.

Thousands of lights hung from the ceiling--symbolizing flying dragons.

The mesmerizing lights lit up the grand field below.

Sin walked through a narrow and dark corridor--an alley between several rows of seats that went down in descending order.

When he made his way past the rows, he saw hundreds of individuals seated in a giant circular arena.

At the center was a flat ground. There, a short man wearing a tuxedo was blabbering out to the crowd with words so quick that he nearly sounded like he was speaking gibberish.

Beside him was what looked to be a giant blue fish inside of a water tank.

"—and what do we have here, ladies and gentlemen, cultivators and collectors, pirates and princes alike! Feast your eyes on this beauty—caught straight from the great Santown River, a blue-blooded beast of the deep! A rarity beyond rarity, a jewel of the sea, and oh—don’t be shy, she bites only if you bore her!"

He continued yapping as roars of cheers erupted from various parts of the seating area all around him.

"Opening bid: five hundred gold! Do I hear five-fifty? Six hundred? Yes! Six-twenty—seven—seven-fifty—gods above, we are flying now! Sold yet? No sir! This fish has teeth and value! Don’t blink—you might miss your chance!"

The auction was flying with full force. The arena was bustling with excited screams, random callouts, and resounding laughter.

Cart pushers made their way through the rows, selling the highest quality foods and liquors.

At the very top of the rows was a railing surrounding the entire arena--behind which were a few scarce groups of individuals.

These guys were clearly the most high-status out of everyone, getting to stand and walk around the entire arena instead of having to sit.

Sin saw Magnus also leaning over the railing at the other side of the arena.

He was staring right at Sin.

As soon as Sin glanced at him, Magnus stood straight and walked away--grabbing a grape from one of the incoming carts and tossing it into his mouth nonchalantly.

Sin ignored this, making his way into the rows.

Just then, he felt a tap on the shoulder.

He turned; met with an unfamiliar face.

"Greetings, sir." A man spoke with a respectful tone, smiling while bowing slightly.

He was wearing a white shirt with a vest along with black dress pants. It was similar to the attire of the cart-pushers.

The man clearly worked here.

"Hey..." Sin said subconsciously while trying to figure out who this man was and why he was speaking to him all of a sudden.

"Let me lead you to the top floor." The man donned a polite smile.

"Top floor? Why me specifically?" Sin questioned, confused.

"Oh, it seems you weren’t informed. Someone has vouched for your position on the top floor. I insist, please join everyone else."

Sin followed through with the man’s request, walking up a flight of stairs in the center of one of the rows all the way up to the top floor.

He noticed several eyes glancing at him from across the arena.

All of them came from the people that were on the top floor.

It was clear that everyone on the top floor knew each other for the most part. However, no one seemed to recognize Sin.

Sin felt a bit out of place until he heard his name suddenly called out behind him.

"Oi! Sin..." Magnus said in a low and also silent tone--but his Spirit Energy increased the volume enough to where Sin could hear him.

Sin walked over to where Magnus was leaning over the railing.

"So you must be the one who vouched for me." Sin said, emphasizing the word ’vouched’ in a satirical tone.

"Yeah... the thing I want to buy won’t be here for a while," Magnus replied, his eyes gazing upon the field below.

"Right... so what does that have to do with me?" Sin said, still confused.

Magnus smiled, "See... that’s it. That right there. That’s funny to me."

"What? What right where?"

"The way you reply to me as if you are some sort of main character, it’s amusing."

"You still haven’t answered my question."

"You’re here because you’re entertaining. That’s all." Magnus said casually--as if he wasn’t giving much heed to Sin’s inquiries.

In reality, he also wanted to pick Sin’s mind just a bit. Or at least try to understand what it was about Sin that made his intuition raise its alarm signals.

Sin tsked, irritated. "Don’t expect anything from me."

Magnus shook his head, "You better actually have something there."

Sin didn’t reply, not having any clue what the young man beside him was talking about.

"Its going to be really boring if my senses are lying to me..." Magnus said, still garnering no reply.

’It’s something dormant. A unique quality that resides inside. From the last time I saw him, its only grown larger.’ The prince thought to himself.
