I Fooled The Goddess Into Pitying Me-Chapter 50: Bitter (1)
"It’s been a while," Jack said, greeting Fortuna, and to his surprise, Justa.
He had expected to meet Fortuna when he was knocked out. Yet, she didn’t call him then, instead, she put him to sleep just when he was about to return to Granny.
It’s annoying, but this... is unexpected.
Jack’s mind reverted back to Justa’s presence in Fortuna’s domain. From what little Jack knew, the two goddesses didn’t like each other. So for them to meet him together meant something weird was about to happen.
Not to mention their downcast expressions.
Standing before them, Jack crossed his arms, waiting for them to say something before he got excited and forgot about listening.
"What we’re about to tell you shouldn’t leave this... domain," Justa spoke first.
"Who will I talk to about this?" Jack scoffed. "You’re the only goddesses I know, and if I told anyone about this, they’d put me in a psych ward. So don’t beat around the bush and tell me what’s wrong."
A vein bulged out of Justa’s forehead after hearing Jack’s words. Not long ago, he had been at her mercy, but now he looked to be a completely different man. More confident and unafraid of the divine entity.
"I told you it’d work, didn’t I?" Fortuna said, smirking.
Justa rolled her eyes before stepping back, leaving the two to talk.
"What’s up with her?" Jack asked, pointing at Justa. "Don’t tell me she got curious about this—"
"Your manhood? Well, we are here for it, technically."
Jack’s eyes widened in surprise. He had joked around because he knew hell would freeze over before Justa would give herself to him. But he knew better than to get his hopes up.
"Do you remember the condition I proposed for your reincarnation?" she continued.
"How can I forget? I have to sleep with five thousand women. If you’re dissatisfied with the progress—"
"That’s not the case. My satisfaction, or otherwise, doesn’t matter anymore. I’ll tell you everything, but to make sure you don’t interrupt me..."
Fortuna snapped her fingers and Jack’s mouth was sealed shut, like he never had a mouth in the first place. He panicked, trying to speak, but no words came out.
Before he could even react further, Fortuna flicked her wrist, and a comfortable velvet throne appeared behind Jack. She gently pushed him back, and he fell on the throne.
Then, with her usual gracefulness, she climbed onto his lap, holding his face in place. Slowly, the slight panic in Jack’s eyes disappeared.
"I didn’t expect you to hold back—looks like I spoke too soon," Fortuna chuckled, staring between his legs.
Unlike before, Jack wasn’t under her spell, and neither did he beg for her touch. He was normal, but his body couldn’t hide the anticipation he felt as the goddess noticed a bulge pressing against her.
Perhaps she wanted to tease him more, so she leaned in, resting her hands on his shoulder.
"I will not tease you too much this time," she whispered. "This is serious. So listen."
Jack rolled his eyes but nodded.
"Back in the divine court, did you notice the empty seats?" she asked.
Jack couldn’t really recall it, since he was busy ogling at the sexy goddesses back then. Still, he nodded along.
"That’s because... we’re dying."
Gods... are dying? Is that even possible? 𝙛𝓻𝒆𝓮𝒘𝙚𝙗𝒏𝙤𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝓬𝒐𝙢
Fortuna noticed Jack’s expression and hurriedly explained.
"Justa and I, belong to the last generation of gods. Which wouldn’t have been an issue, since we can procreate amongst ourselves."
"Unfortunately, some gods have grown tired of this monotonous life and don’t want to subject anyone else to it. The majority of them are... males. They don’t want to bring new life into a world they’ve grown to hate."
At this point, Justa joined the conversation, after cooling down from before.
"And without both gods and goddesses willing to create... we’re stuck, destined to die out. I thought it was our fate," she said, turning to Fortuna. "Until this little wench did something without telling anyone."
Fortuna rolled her eyes but didn’t refute Justa’s claim. How could she when it was true?
Even so, she didn’t want to reveal what happened next, as it might destroy whatever relationship she had with Jack. But she had to, for the sake of their future.
"Knowing we were dying out... I took a risk. I searched all realities to find someone capable of completing the task. That’s when I found you..."
Jack raised an eyebrow, not liking where the conversation was headed. However, with his mouth gone, he couldn’t object even if he wanted to.
"You had everything I was looking for... so I made you bolder, and placed you under my veil of fortune. No matter how reckless you became in pursuit of women, I protected you... until you were ready to be harvested."
The characteristic fierce look in Fortuna’s eyes vanished at that moment, as she turned her head away. She couldn’t bear to tell the story, but under Justa’s insistence, she carried on.
"I lifted the veil and... let you get caught by those men. I... had you killed so I could enact my plan."
Jack narrowed his eyes. At that moment, he didn’t need a mouth to convey his feelings towards Fortuna. Till now, he had been grateful to her for giving him a second life, but now that he knew the truth, all that admiration turned to dust.
He didn’t like to talk about his death because it had been the most painful experience of his life. Hundreds of men hunted him down, chopped him into pieces till all their grievances had been forced on him.
Back then, he thought it was a result of his doings. Little did he know, he was being manipulated that entire time.
Fortuna couldn’t tolerate the look of pure disgust Jack gave her and got off his lap. Justa reached out to support her sister. Even then, she couldn’t utter a single word to comfort her, as Jack’s anger was justified.
"I know you won’t believe me, but I didn’t know you’d meet such a gruesome death," Fortuna said. "I just wanted to bring you to help us. And you were the only one capable of giving the goddesses what we needed."
Justa continued, "Fortuna believed that if you were reborn into a new world and lived following your own will, you’ll grow into someone who could... satisfy a goddess."
