"Pathetic," Arthur mutters, looking at his poor Willpower score of only 6 out of 100. Back on Earth, everyone pushed him around - from bullies at school to Jessica, the girl he liked. Even with his new incubus powers, his basic abilities remain disappointingly weak.
Though his blood connection with Valentina has slightly improved his Manipulation skill, his physical strength is still terrible.
If his brother Gareth challenges him to a fight during the upcoming Trial of Arcane Mastery, he would lose before he could even activate his Combat Mode.
Suddenly, he feels emotions that aren't his own - irritation, impatience, and a touch of desire. Valentina is thinking about him, with their blood connection sending her feelings to him like an unwanted message.
"Fascinating but inconvenient," Arthur sighs as he closes his stats screen with a wave. The blood bond works both ways - it helps him track Valentina's loyalty, but also lets her sense his emotions. He realizes he needs better control over this connection.
Someone knocks on the door, interrupting Arthur's thoughts.
"Enter," he says, sitting up straight.
Elliot comes in and gives a small bow.
"Your Highness, the King wants you to join the family for dinner tonight," Elliot announces.
Arthur raises an eyebrow. "The King? That's unusual." The old Arthur would have stumbled over his words with excitement at such a rare invitation. Instead, he smiles calmly. "Tell His Majesty I'm honored."
"There's more. Prince Gareth and Lady Lysandra from House Silvermoor will also be there."
This catches Arthur's interest. Gareth's fiancée rarely comes to the palace, as she usually stays with her magical companions at House Silvermoor. This is perfect timing, since Arthur has been trying to figure out how to talk to her without looking suspicious.
"I see. Perfect timing, actually. I've wanted to ask Lady Lysandra about some historical documents about Silvermoor."
Elliot nods, though he looks briefly confused. "Also, Your Highness, my sister Beatrice wants to know if you can meet her this week.
She's visiting from the Royal Academy and wants to show you the fighting techniques she's been practicing."
Arthur feels excited when Beatrice is mentioned. The small, petite girl has always admired him, even calling him "big brother" though they aren't related.
Before, Arthur just thought she was Elliot's irritating sister. Now he sees her differently - as someone with potential.
"How nice of her to think of me. Please tell Beatrice I'd be happy to see what she's learned," he replies.
As Elliot starts to leave, Arthur suddenly feels another emotion through his blood connection - stronger this time. It's suspicion. Valentina must have found out about the dinner invitation through her spies.

Arthur's system confirms what he sensed. The duchess is already making plans, worried that tonight's dinner might threaten her position with Arthur. Her jealous nature is becoming a problem—one he may need to deal with soon.
"Oh, and Elliot," Arthur calls as the servant reaches the door. "What have you heard about how Lady Lysandra feels about marrying my brother?"
Elliot pauses, looking uncomfortable. "I shouldn't really comment on that, Your Highness."
"Please, you hear all the gossip in this palace. I won't tell anyone what you say."
The servant's shoulders drop a little. "People say she cries when she thinks she's alone, Your Highness. Prince Gareth is... quite harsh with his criticism of her."
"I see. Thank you, Elliot. You may go."
When the door closes, Arthur smiles to himself. He's discovered a bride who doesn't want to marry, forced into a political arrangement with a controlling prince.
Perfect. Lysandra's unhappiness was both a moral justification and strategic opportunity. Taking her from Gareth would serve a lot of purposes—weakening his brother's political position, harvesting energy from a divine mage, and satisfying the dark part of him that craved the sweet taste of stolen pleasure. fɾēewebnσveℓ.com
First, Arthur knows he needs to make a good impression at dinner. His approach must be subtle enough not to raise suspicions, but strong enough to catch Lysandra's interest.
Arthur walks to his closet and chooses a dark blue jacket that makes his eyes stand out. "Let the games begin," he whispers to himself in the mirror.
