I Have a Dice Left by a God-Chapter 396 - 263: Nine Lives
Everyone turned to the black cat; Justin didn’t have any Night Patrol markings on him, and this guy was able to sneak in silently, moving through the Underground City effortlessly—all definitely due to having a specialized path.
As soon as Justin realized he couldn’t rely on the dog, he immediately wanted to flee, but his tail was grabbed by the Dragon Mother and lifted up. Seeing the Dragon Mother’s eyes, his body instantly went limp. The Ancient Dragon exerted an ancestral-level restraint on various spiritual creatures, which is why Justin dared not resist when he first met the Dragon Mother, letting her manipulate him as she wished.
"I know you don’t really like being here, but once you complete this task, you’ll be free," the Dragon Mother said, lovingly stroking Justin, "Be good, be brave; the Night Patrol will support you. You’re my beloved Master Justin!"
Justin glared with his round cat eyes, feeling like he wanted to die. Such a huge task, so many people—why put all this pressure on a weak little cat? Is this humane?
"Cats have nine lives, and good luck too!" Dalivin clapped his hands suddenly and said, "Justin is the smartest cat I’ve ever seen."
Justin’s cat eyes glared fiercely at Dalivin—you have nine lives, your whole family has nine lives.
Despite the swearing, Justin was compelled to nod, even raising paws that didn’t belong to him, thinking of how these deceitful humans used hidden power to control him.
The group immediately formulated a plan and moved into action separately. Li Xin went to find Ma Zhe. The Night Patrol remained in the base, subscribing to the idea that the most dangerous place is the safest. The enemy probably thought the Night Patrol had retreated and fled, but in fact, they were right under the Hex Bird Society’s base, though only for the next few days.
At the base, the Night Patrol took turns channeling their life force into the seal to activate the "God Slayer Crossbow." Ma Zhe was in the room, focused intently on a photograph in his hand. The photo was a picture of him and Christie from a time when he was still young and spirited, and together, they transformed the Hex Bird Society from nothing into its present form. He sighed softly, igniting the photo, watching it turn to ash in the flames.
"President, Li Xin is here."
"Let him in," Ma Zhe said.
Li Xin brought Justin to the Night Patrol’s base. The ambush site was initially decided by the Night Patrol, but now Oliver’s countryside manor had become the ideal location.
Li Xin shared the new idea with Ma Zhe, who immediately endorsed it, developing fresh thoughts on the existing foundation.
"What about the Dragon Mother and the others?"
"They’ve already gone ahead to the manor, and they’ll settle everything over there," Li Xin said, "It’s deserted, perfect for our operation."
Ma Zhe nodded, "With the Dragon Mother there, we have a greater assurance. Do you think we can rely on her?"
"President, to be honest, in our current situation, we have no choice. If she intended to harm us, there’d be no need for such complexity; we can only trust her, and we must," Li Xin said. His mindset was contemporary and better understood the Dragon Mother’s actions, aiding in the creation of artificial humans aligning with her stance. However, she chose Hedan’s criminals and constantly discarded corpses to alert the Funeral Attendant, doing everything possible—far more just than most.
Ma Zhe understood too, but as the person in charge, he couldn’t let emotions govern him. He actually thought the same, glancing at the unwilling black cat, "This is the spare spiritual cat sent from Dragon Capital, apparently a bit reluctant."
"It’s just a little proud, actually quite reliable," Li Xin said.
"No worries, our Night Patrol is proficient at communicating with spiritual creatures," Ma Zhe said, smiling at Justin.
Late at night, the Night Patrol began their first wave of actions. This was Ma Zhe’s first step, to burn the boats—not intending to abandon or retreat. Suddenly, some figures appeared in the night at Hedan, transmitting flyers like snowflakes.
Li Xin’s plan gained Ma Zhe’s full support, indeed better than their initial one, and Dragon Mother was willing to spearhead, granting the Night Patrol a chance to use sealing objects.
The Dragon Mother and the others took over the manor first, while the Night Patrol’s action team was already headed there, starting to set up. Justin was taken away by a team member nicknamed the "Mouse," who had a way to send Justin inside. But how the message would be delivered to Oliver and persuade him to follow depended on Justin’s fate.
Li Xin immediately set off to reunite with Dragon Mother at Oliver’s countryside manor; this situation demanded swift action, allowing no time for the Earth Temple and Oliver to react.
On the way to the manor, the dice spun in his hand, never thrown.
The next morning, Hedan felt unexpectedly chilly. Since Your Majesty passed away, it seemed Hedan’s temperature had been dropping continuously.
Normally, the King’s funeral and the new monarch’s coronation should be settled quickly, which wasn’t a difficult decision. Yet, until now, there’s been silence from the royal family—not because Hokele was unwilling to make a quick decision, but Duke Zheng, with his group, demanded Hokele to appoint Prince Oliver as Regent, to "assist" Hokele since the King passed early. Hokele lacked experience, and having a wise, reputable Great Prince as Regent was universally expected, hinting that agreeing would imply resolving all issues.
This was a forceful demand, which Hokele couldn’t agree to. Celestial Principle School definitely stood by Hokele, staying united through this. Unluckily, Grandmaster Vladimir sacrificed himself for the Golden Tree’s protection. It should have been top-secret, but it felt as though everyone who needed to know already knew.
Now it’s clear this was the most ruthless move—in the current difficult situation, without the demigod balancing things, Hokele lost his greatest support, and even the Celestial Principle School lost its former influence. Many orders couldn’t be effectively executed, and at times Hokele felt it was all... a conspiracy, instilling fear and helplessness.
The neutral faction represented by the Tia Clan also remained silent, while Hokele sent someone for Duke Tia, finding him gravely ill.
This proved to be the last straw for Hokele, who bore a strong resemblance to Ola the Eighteenth—facing such a situation for the first time—if not for the support of Celestial Principle School, these forces might surround the Royal Palace. But the royal family was losing control over the Royal City, Oliver’s influence was overwhelmingly large. Among the public, although not as considerable as Ola the Eighteenth, Oliver still overshadowed Hokele, while outside Hedan, Oliver was definitely stronger than Hokele—they were waiting for the legend of a brother succeeding a brother.
Celestial Principle School was also taking action, as the confrontation between both sides reached a fever pitch. All the forces in the Royal City had to pick a side, even the troops within the city were prepared for battle, as this was the ultimate truth.
The waking citizens gradually saw newspaper-like items in their courtyards, at their doorstep, on the streets, unable to resist picking them up to read. Then, one by one, their expressions changed.
