I Have a Modern Weapon Gacha System in the Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 30: Transforming the Military Base
Four hours later.
Adrian transformed the once infested air base of Pampanga into a military hub. He stood in the middle of the runway and slowly turned his head to see what had changed.
And the change was massive.
Just hours ago the place had been overrun by infected soldiers wandering across the runway.
Now the entire base was alive with activity.
More than a hundred non-combat personnel were moving across the installation. Mechanics, technicians, logistics crew, and ground staff walked between buildings carrying toolboxes, cables, and equipment crates. Some were already setting up portable workstations beside the hangars while others directed vehicles moving across the tarmac.
Adrian looked toward the main aircraft hangars.
The structures that once housed the FA-50 light fighters of the Philippine Air Force had been completely repurposed.
Inside them now stood something far more advanced.
Rows of F-35A Lightning II stealth fighters.
The sleek fifth-generation aircraft sat in perfect alignment across the hangar floor. Their gray stealth coating reflected faint light as maintenance crews moved around them inspecting panels and running diagnostics.
Ryan walked up beside Adrian and whistled quietly.
"Yeah... that’s a serious upgrade from FA-50s. Also, you were lucky to get an MQ-9 Reaper and MQ-1 Predator."
Adrian nodded slightly.
"Fifth-generation fighters and an advanced UAV..."
Even he had to admit it looked impressive. And to think that he had one first than the Philippine Air Force made it all the more cooler.
Beyond the hangars, the air defense network had already been deployed.
Near the outer perimeter stood a Patriot PAC-3 missile battery. The large radar array rotated slowly while the missile launchers pointed skyward.
Not far from it, several C-RAM Phalanx systems had been installed along the base perimeter. Their radar domes turned constantly, scanning the sky for incoming threats.
Several soldiers were also unloading crates of FIM-92 Stinger MANPADS from the back of a military truck.
This was the defense intended to counter aerial threats such as that big mutated bird that he encountered a lot so far. That should deter any kinds similar to that creature.
Jake walked past them carrying a tablet.
"Air defense perimeter is already coming online," he said.
Adrian shifted his gaze toward the vehicle staging area near the motor pool.
Rows of armored vehicles were parked across the concrete.
Several M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks sat near the maintenance building, their massive 120mm cannons pointing safely toward the empty fields outside the base.
Beside them were multiple Oshkosh M-ATV MRAP vehicles, along with several MaxxPro MRAPs arranged in neat lines.
Further down the tarmac, a convoy of HEMTT military cargo trucks and FMTV transport trucks were already being parked. It should serve as troop transports and carriers of supplies once they scavenge nearby shopping malls or supermarkets near the base.
At the helicopter pad, several aircraft had already been positioned.
Multiple UH-60M Black Hawk and Chinook helicopters were lined up across the apron.
Beside them stood two AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, their longbow radar domes visible above the rotor assemblies.
Ground crews were already fueling the Blackhawks that was used to get them here.
Not far away sat three rugged aircraft that Adrian immediately recognized.
A-10 Thunderbolt II Warthogs.
The famous close-air support aircraft sat on the edge of the runway, their massive GAU-8 Avenger cannons visible beneath the fuselage. It would be called upon when he or his crew were to encounter a large swarm of zombies in a dense zone.
The air assets didn’t stop there.
At the far end of the runway sat the larger aircraft.
A massive AC-130 gunship had been parked near the taxiway, its sensor turret and side-mounted weapons clearly visible.
Beside it stood a large Airbus A400M Atlas military transport aircraft, its four massive turboprop engines towering over the ground crew working beneath it.
The transport aircraft alone could move dozens of vehicles or hundreds of troops if needed.
Adrian slowly exhaled.
Four hours.
That was all it took for the gacha system to transform a dead air base into a fully functioning military hub.
Of course, a military base must have its own reserves of fuels and ammunition. The gacha system delivered millions of rounds stacked neatly inside several temporary storage shelters that had been erected near the old logistics warehouse.
Crates were piled in long rows.
Green metal boxes labeled 5.56×45 NATO, 7.62×51 NATO, and .50 BMG sat on wooden pallets waiting to be distributed. Forklifts moved slowly between the stacks while logistics crews checked the inventory on handheld tablets.
Nearby, larger containers held belts of ammunition for the M134 miniguns, 7.62mm for M240 machine guns, and heavy ammunition for the aircraft weapons.
Beyond the ammunition depot, several fuel tankers were already parked near the base’s aviation fuel storage area.
"So what now boss?" Ryan asked, still standing beside Adrian who was still scanning his surroundings.
It took a moment before he finally spoke.
"Things are looking good here. Of course, this is beautiful from an outside perspective, the real challenge is maintaining it until this apocalypse ends."
"We don’t know when this will end sir, but with your powers, surely, we will survive it through the end," Ryan said in an encouraging tone.
"Now where should we put the survivors? The barracks are already occupied with our newly-summoned troops. I don’t think the survivors should get priority since we are the one since we are the ones securing this place," Ryan asked.
"How fast can we build a barracks? I do believe that I receive materials from the Gacha system. I want it built before we can transport them here."
Ryan hummed in thought for a moment as he looked toward the far side of the base where several empty lots and unused structures stood.
"Well... if we’re talking about a proper military-style barracks, prefabricated structures would be the fastest," he said.
Adrian turned his head slightly.
"Explain."
Ryan pointed toward the logistics area where several large crates had been unloaded earlier.
"If the materials you received include prefabricated wall panels, steel frames, and modular utilities, we could assemble something quickly. Military forward bases do it all the time."
"How quick are we talking?"
Ryan shrugged.
"With enough manpower? Maybe a few hours for the basic structure. A day if we want full plumbing and electrical systems."
Adrian considered that.
They had more than a hundred non-combat personnel already working around the base. Mechanics and logistics crews weren’t exactly construction workers, but assembling prefabricated buildings didn’t require specialized labor.
"Where would you put it?" Adrian asked.
Ryan scanned the base.
He pointed toward a wide empty field beyond the administrative buildings, still inside the perimeter fence but far from the hangars and ammunition depot.
"There."
Adrian followed his finger.
The open space sat near the inner perimeter road. It was close enough to the base infrastructure but far enough from the operational zones.
"Okay we do that."
