I Have a Modern Weapon Gacha System in the Zombie Apocalypse-Chapter 81: Adrian and Ryan
Adrian parted ways with Herrera and then resumed his journey around the base. And while at it, he noticed a man standing in front of the hangar of a C-17 Globemaster.
And he was quite a familiar figure.
"Ryan?" Adrian called and almost instantly, the man turned around.
It was really Ryan.
"Sir!"
"Looking good now huh?" Adrian said, giving him a quick look over.
Ryan let out a short breath, a faint grin forming despite the bandages still visible under his shirt.
"Better than lying in bed, sir," he said. "Still hurts, but I can move."
Adrian nodded.
"That’s fast."
"Doctor said I heal quick," Ryan replied. "Guess I got lucky."
Adrian glanced at the aircraft behind him.
"What a beautiful aircraft."
"She sure is," Ryan concurred. "To think this is the aircraft we will use to go to Korea. Which is going to happen in a week. I thought it was two, but it was moved."
"Well, we are considering other variables. We are going literally blind in Korea in hopes of finding a virologist," Adrian said.
"Are there really no virologists in the Philippines?" Ryan asked curiously.
Adrian shook his head slightly.
"There are," he said. "But not the level we need."
Ryan tilted his head a bit.
"...Meaning?"
"We’re not dealing with a normal virus," Adrian continued. "This thing mutates fast. Infection patterns are inconsistent. Some turn instantly, some don’t. Some carry it without showing symptoms for hours.
"We need someone who has actually worked on adaptive viral behavior," he added. "Someone who understands mutation on a deeper level. Not just treatment, but analysis."
Ryan nodded slowly.
"...And that’s why Korea."
"Yes."
A short pause.
Ryan crossed his arms slightly, eyes narrowing in thought."
"Are you coming with us sir?" Ryan asked.
"You know what, I have been thinking about going to Korea as well," Adrian replied. "The reason is that I haven’t been abroad and it was one of my dreams to go to a foreign country. But, I expect that it won’t look like the pre-outbreak Korea. And there are a lot of Kpop idols there, you know."
Ryan chuckled. "So you are into idols sir?"
"No," Adrian said. "I just admire their looks. Like come on who wouldn’t be. So yeah, I am kind of leaning towards coming with you to Korea. I’ll just have to select who will run this military base before we head out. And there are a lot of candidates thanks to the gacha system."
"Well sir, you are an experienced fighter but I will have to remind you that out there in Korea, it’s going to be different. You won’t have local knowledge on the place, we don’t know if there are mutants or variants we haven’t seen yet," Ryan finished.
Adrian nodded.
"I know," he said.
Ryan looked at him for a second.
"Then you understand what you’re walking into."
"I do."
There was no hesitation in his voice.
Ryan exhaled slowly, then shifted his weight slightly.
"Sir, with all due respect," he said, "you don’t have to go. You can run this from here. Command, coordination, you’re more valuable alive and behind the lines."
"If I stay behind every time things get dangerous," he said, "then I’m not leading. I’m just ordering."
Ryan didn’t interrupt.
Adrian looked at the aircraft.
"At some point, I have to step out there myself," he added. "See what we’re dealing with. Not just through reports."
He turned back to Ryan.
"And if I expect my people to go into that kind of environment," he continued, "then I should be willing to stand there with them."
Ryan studied him.
"...That’s a risk," he said.
"It is."
"And if something happens to you,"
"Then someone takes over," Adrian cut in calmly. "That’s why I’m setting up a chain of command before we leave."
"No sir, if you disappear, all of this summons, they won’t be able to maintain it. At most like months."
"Which is why before we go, I plan on bombing Metro Manila to earn points," Adrian revealed.
Ryan’s eyes widened.
"Oh so that’s the reason why you moved the date," Ryan said, the realization settling in.
"Yes."
Ryan stared at him.
"...You’re serious."
"I am."
A short silence followed.
The weight of what he just said hung there.
Ryan exhaled slowly.
"...Metro Manila," he said. "That’s... millions of infected."
Adrian nodded slightly.
"In the tens of millions before the outbreak," he said. "Even if a large portion died early... or dispersed...There’s still a massive concentration there."
Ryan crossed his arms.
"How much are you estimating?"
Adrian did the math in his head.
"Let’s say Metro Manila had around 13 to 14 million people," he said. "Even if we assume 60 percent are infected and still active..."
Ryan followed.
"...That’s around 7 to 8 million."
Adrian nodded.
"And even if we don’t wipe all of them," he added, "just a portion, say we eliminate even half of that during operations..."
Ryan’s eyes narrowed.
"That’s still millions."
Adrian continued calmly.
"At 50 points per kill as a base," he said, "that’s..."
He paused for a brief second.
"...over a hundred million points."
Ryan went silent.
Because that number was insane.
"And that’s just a conservative estimate," Adrian added. "I have seen variations in point rewards before. In the early days it was ten per zombie kill, now it was 50. And I only need 1000 points to spin. You do the math."
Ryan let out a low breath, shaking his head slightly.
"That’s insane," he said. "Even if we don’t hit those numbers exactly, that’s still more than anything we’ve ever gained."
Adrian nodded.
"It is," he said.
"But that’s assuming everything goes right," he added.
Adrian gave a small shrug.
"That’s why it’s just an estimate," he said. "Reality is always lower."
Ryan frowned slightly.
"...Because of the arsenal?"
"Partly," Adrian replied. "We have limited stocks of missiles that we can use to obliterate Metro Manila. It’s best we do things like in Boracay, lure them out, box them in, and bomb the shit out of them."
"Well, I think it’s doable."
