Chapter 847: Chapter 848: Player Conference_1

The cabins on this cargo ship couldn’t be locked from the inside. Seeing the youth push the door open, Song Jian’s brow furrowed slightly as he turned to stare at him.

“Player?” the youth asked with a smile.

“You are one too, right?” Song Jian sized up the youth and said.

In the real world, it was not as easy to distinguish a player from an NPC as it was in the game; no names and attributes appeared above their heads. Everything had to be judged by oneself.

Song Jian’s ostentatious leap from the fishing boat to the cargo ship was partly to show off his muscles, to avoid unnecessary trouble, and partly to see if there were any game players aboard the ship.

When he stepped onto the deck, almost everyone had an incredulous, shocked expression. Only this youth showed no great surprise. At that moment, Song Jian took note—the youth must have witnessed similar powers before, making it highly likely that he was a game player.

...

Song Jian was on his own, clueless about what to do next; he only wanted to avoid the scrutiny of the authorities and pursue what was called freedom.

“Hao Dong, a Level 33 Spirit Swordsman, my goal this time is to go to the Philippines to attend the players’ gathering. Your aim must be the same as mine, right?” Hao Dong looked at Song Jian with a smile and said.

“Players’ gathering?” Song Jian was taken aback, gave Hao Dong a look, and slowly shook his head, “My player identity has been exposed. The place I was staying at isn’t safe anymore, so I need to lay low for a couple of days!”

Hao Dong’s heart skipped a beat at Song Jian’s words, and he took a step back, eyeing Song Jian warily, “Did you break the law?”

“No, what are you talking about?” Song Jian was somewhat bewildered.

“Then why are you running?” Hao Dong rolled his eyes and said, “It’s normal for a player’s identity to be discovered. If you want to join the authorities, you can get an extra subsidy. If not, they don’t force you to do anything. Just don’t stir up trouble, that’s all!”

“But I’ve already seen the officials capturing players with my own eyes!” Song Jian said with a slight frown

“Then that guy must have done something illegal.” Hao Dong stated confidently, “Otherwise, the authorities wouldn’t capture him. Some people get abilities from the game and start thinking they are supermen, doing whatever they want, lawlessly. I’ve heard some players even use their powers to kill people in the real world. Those guys are a blight, and if I ran into them, I wouldn’t be lenient!”

“And where did you get this information from?” Song Jian asked.

“What, the authorities found out about you and didn’t send you the ‘notice to players’? It explains everything in detail,” Hao Dong asked.

Song Jian was taken aback. Since he had discovered that officials were capturing players, he had left his rented room and didn’t stay long in the villa he had bought before he hurriedly found a way to leave. Even if there were any “notices to players”, he probably wouldn’t be able to receive them.

“Alright, alright, don’t worry. Seeing how strong you are, I thought you were an old hand at this. I didn’t realize you’re a newbie,” Hao Dong sighed, “When you jumped up from that fishing boat just now, you must have used a skill. I thought your physical strength was really that formidable.”

Hao Dong walked into the room, shut the door, and plopped down on the bed, complaining, “Fifty thousand bucks just for such a shabby place to stay. What a rip-off, more expensive than a five-star hotel.”

Song Jian glanced at Hao Dong. He hadn’t heard of the Spirit Swordsman class before, but by intuition, it was at least a rare class.

However, even against a Level 33 player like Hao Dong, with Song Jian’s strength and without any equipment attribute bonuses, killing him would just take a blink of an eye, especially since his Sky-breaking Sword could be taken out of the game.

“What’s this player gathering you mentioned?” Song Jian asked.

“It’s a meeting organized by gamers in Southeast Asia, to exchange information and equipment, and I’ve heard they want to set up the largest player organization in Asia to unify all players so they can help each other out in the game,” Hao Dong explained.

“Right, which game area are you in?” asked Song Jian.

“Yinfeng City, a city abandoned for who knows how many years, filled with ghostly and undead monsters. I’m sick of grinding them every day!” Hao Dong glanced at Song Jian and asked, “How about you? Where are you?”

“Doomsday City, filled with zombies,” Song Jian laughed.

“Hey, pretty much the same. Both of us are not so lucky,” Hao Dong sighed, “I’ve heard that some people are born in a human main city, very safe, and they don’t even need to grind monsters to level up every day. They just find a job in the city like going to work and can earn Experience Points!”

Song Jian smiled faintly. He knew what Hao Dong was referring to: those places like the City of Sin and City of Hymns. Although they were safe, they weren’t as comfortable as Hao Dong described.

When players were born, they were very weak. Even if they found a job, they would be exploited by NPCs, and nearby monsters were mostly cleared out by the city guards, making leveling by killing impossible.

These players generally had to perform tasks and find jobs in the city, patiently waiting until around level ten before leaving to level up by killing monsters. Although it was much safer than for those born in abandoned cities, the speed at which they could increase their strength was slow. If they couldn’t join a significant power by then, it would be ten times more difficult for an individual to progress than for the players in Doomsday City.

After chatting for over an hour, Hao Dong invited Song Jian to attend the gathering. Any person with a player identity could join, and after thinking it over, Song Jian nodded in agreement.

Hao Dong had also been hoping to find someone to accompany him to the gathering and let out a sigh of relief upon seeing Song Jian agree, preparing to take his leave.

Just then, a dull thud resonated near them, and the entire cargo ship jolted. Song Jian’s face changed color; the vessel had been steady during the voyage and barely shook, and given it was loaded with cargo, an impact that could make it sway like that would have to be over three hundred tons.

“Be careful, something might have happened,” Hao Dong said tensely, such a massive impact might be more than the cargo ship could withstand. For all they knew, at the point of collision, a crack might have already formed. If something were to happen to the ship, even though both of them were players, the idea of crossing the ocean on their own was completely unthinkable.
