Chapter 39: Real Men Only Attack In A Straight Line!!

After driving down the final stump, Raiden brushed off his hands and looked at Woolie.

"Alright buddy, you see this?"

He pointed to the latest creation he just completed.

"Woolie!" (ლ╹◡╹)ლ

Woolie nodded quickly, looking eager.

"What you need to do is simple: you just need to finish running through this course without bumping into anything. Sounds simple enough, right?"

Woolie once again nodded as he looked at the course that Raiden almost spent the whole day building using an axe and a few trees from the jungle.

It started out simple, with a few wooden stumps driven into the ground in a zigzag pattern. But then it got more complex, with markings on the ground and much more complicated placement of the stumps.

Then, the whole setup changed entirely, with a tall ramp that led to multiple wooden stakes driven where the ramp ended, acting as the new floor far above the ground.

It was a really simple yet complex course that Raiden designed that was meant to overcome Woolie’s shortcomings.

The first section would teach him how to turn adeptly. The second section, with much more complex paths, will help him in learning how to be more agile.

As for the third course that was half finished, it should theoretically help him with balance and control, but that was too far away from the current Woolie, giving Raiden more than enough time to complete it in the future.

With what he had created so far in one day, Raiden was satisfied with it.

"Alright, Woolie, now go, run!!"

Woolie needed no more signals, as he rushed straight out at full speed, intent on having as much fun as he could.

At first, he started out great, dodging the first wooden stump, but he wasn’t as lucky with the second one, crashing straight into it.

Bang!

The wooden stump, which was just buried inside the soil on the surface level flew, uprooting the soil around it.

But Woolie didn’t stop. If anything, he got even more excited and, with a cheer, started going even faster, trying to dodge but not able to, hitting all the posts in the way.

"Wait, Woolie, sto—" Raiden tried to add to him, but—

BANG!

BANG!!

BANG!!!

"—Stop!!" But it was already too late.

Puzzled, Woolie turned to look at the human halfway through the course, his head tilted to one side. Why did he stop him? He was having too much fun.

"You rascal! If you hit everything in your way, what’s the point of doing this?!" Raiden shouted, feeling exasperated.

"Woo Woo!" Didn’t you make this place to have fun?

"What fun?! It’s training, okay? Training! I created this course so you can train. Do it again!! But this time, no hitting the targets! Go from in between them!"

He walked over and picked up the wooden stumps that had been sent flying, taking 15 minutes to put them back in place once again.

After seeing that everything was correct, he nodded to himself before signalling to Woolie once again.

"Alright Woolie, go!!"

"Woolie~" Woolie started running through the course once again.

This time, dodging the first one, stopping before turning once again, and rotating his entire body and stopping, turning in its place to go towards the third stump. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Looking at this comical scene, Raiden’s heart almost couldn’t bear it.

"Wait, wait, stop!! You don’t dodge like that! Do it once again!

Woolie felt sullen. This guy, it kept stopping him from having fun. But he still obediently walked back and started going through the course once again.

"No! What are you doing?! Don’t you know how to dodge? Why do you keep stopping and turning? Do it again!"

"Wool~!!" Woolie felt angry. He had been doing his best. But for the sake of Raiden, Woolie once again walked to the starting line and started going through the course once again!!

"Stop!! You are doing it wrong, once again!!"

Hearing this once again for the nth time, Woolie snapped.

"Woo Woolie Woo Wool!!" What now?! I’m dodging properly now!! Don’t bother me anymore, human. ಠ︵ಠ

"Dodging?! You call that dodging?! Are you trying to anger me to death?!" Raiden started laughing out of sheer anger.

He busted his arse to create this course all day long, yet this ungrateful little one couldn’t even do a basic thing like this.

"Woolie Woo Woolie!!" Dodge! Dodge!! Dodge!!! Who needs to learn to dodge anyways!? Dodging is for cowards. Real men, they attack straight on!!

"What nonsense!! Every strong Terra Beast must know how dodge!!"

"Woolie~!" No, they must attack head-on!!

"No, they must learn to dodge!!"

"Woolie!!" Attack Head-On!!

"No, Dodge!!"

"WOOLIE!!!" ATTACK HEAD ON!!!

"DODGE!!"

Both Raiden and Woolie started glaring at each other, as sparks started flying between them.

"Humph!!"

Both turned their head away, unwilling to look at each other.

Ruby, who was watching their comedy routine from afar, couldn’t help it, bursting into laughter as she moved towards them.

"Alrightt, childrenn, enough. You must get along with each otherr." She hissed.

"Woolie, you mustt listen to Rai Rai~ he wantss to help youu. As partnerss, you both are mostt importantt to each otherr~"

"Woolie.." Woolie pouted as Ruby’s tail patted its head.

"And you Rai Rai~ you mustt be more patient with him. He is just a newbornn." Ruby chided.

"But Aunt Ruby, he’s—"

"No butss. He is only two weekss oldd. And you aree sixteenn. Not to mentionn you aree his Trainerr. Is that how you treatt yourr family?"

After hearing her words, Raiden felt ashamed. She was not wrong. He didn’t know what came over him, making him so irritated.

"You are right. I am sorry Aunt. I’ll do better next time." Raiden apologised.

Seeing this, Ruby nodded. It was good that her child still had some honest, good qualities in him.

Next, Raiden walked towards Woolie, who was still pouting and facing away from him.

He crouched down and patted its head. "I am really sorry, buddy. It’s my fault. I won’t get angry like that anymore. Forgive me?"

Seeing this, Woolie melted. He was not really angry, just sad. But it wouldn’t do. Wouldn’t it be beneath his dignity if he forgave this human so easily?!

"Woolie!!" I want double! No, triple the amount of dinner, today!! He put forth what he deemed as an extremely harsh demand in front of him.

"No worries, today you can eat until you are full!" Raiden agreed readily. It was the least he could do.

Hearing his words, Woolie’s eyes lit up once again, as he tackled Raiden to the ground, licking his face.

"Hahaha, alright, alright. That’s enough."

Now on the ground, Raiden fell into thought. His method of teaching Woolie how to dodge. It seemed like a really hard challenge to him.

Seeing his roadblock, Ruby casually offered some advice.

"Have you considered that Woolie doesn’t know how to dodge, because he genuinely doesn’t know what a dodging Terran looks like~?"

Hearing her words and her logic, Raiden felt his mind was blown apart!!
