Chapter 26: Chapter 26: Just Deserts

In that moment, Adrian Quincy realized he had a new mission.

Whether for Quinn or for his grandfather, he knew he could never abandon this girl in his lifetime. Her name was Claire Sinclair, she was his wife, and he had to give her a home.

...

The car pulled over to the side of the road.

Adrian Quincy carried the girl into the car, then got in himself.

Claire Sinclair wrapped his coat tightly around herself. The moment the car started moving, she asked him, "What are you going to do with Logan Linden? Are you going to have him sent to prison?"

"Attempted rape using illicit drugs, attempted rape, and blackmail and extortion. Those three crimes are enough to put him behind bars for several years," the man said in a low voice.

In Aridia, rape was a felony. Even an attempt, once caught, meant a minimum of three years in prison. Add to that his other crimes, and he was in for a rough time.

Claire Sinclair felt a sense of vindication thinking about that damned scumbag’s fate.

Logan Linden had the worst luck in the world, running into a mysterious big shot from Quincy Manor. It would be a miracle if he got off lightly.

She looked at the man’s profile gratefully. "Mr. Quincy, thank you for standing up for me."

"I’m not standing up just for you. Anyone who breaks the law must face the consequences. I would have intervened for any other victim as well," the man clarified in a deadpan voice.

Claire Sinclair wasn’t bothered. "Well, I don’t care. I’m just going to believe you did it for me. It makes me happy to think that."

Seeing the girl’s playful insistence, Adrian Quincy didn’t argue. He just closed his eyes and feigned sleep.

’There he goes again...’

Claire Sinclair assumed he was tired, so she didn’t disturb him.

...

Adrian Quincy was, after all, a very busy man. After dropping Claire Sinclair off at a hotel and booking a room for her, he left, leaving her there by herself.

Claire Sinclair spent nearly two hours in the shower, scrubbing her skin until it was red and sore. Only when she felt completely clean did she finally get out.

To her surprise, all of her luggage from her rental apartment had been packed and was now sitting neatly in the hotel room.

She didn’t even have to think to know that Adrian Quincy must have sent someone to do it. The man’s efficiency was terrifyingly fast.

That was a relief; now she wouldn’t have to go through the trouble of moving everything herself.

She found a change of clothes, unplugged her fully charged phone, and lay down on the bed.

She opened her text messages and found the one from an unknown number...

It contained only two words: Adrian Quincy.

Claire Sinclair recognized his style immediately. The number definitely belonged to Adrian Quincy.

Although she already knew the answer, she couldn’t help but call the number back, pretending she needed to confirm it was him.

The phone rang a few times before it was finally answered.

"Um, hello, this is Claire Sinclair."

"What is it?"

"Oh, it’s nothing. I just wanted to confirm if this is your number."

"..."

’Does his silence mean I’ve confirmed it and should hang up now?’ 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮

Claire Sinclair cleared her throat and added, "Also, thank you for saving me."

...

「Quincy Manor.」

In the office, three subordinates who had just returned from a mission stood ramrod straight in front of his desk, their expressions solemn.

Adrian Quincy sat with his legs crossed casually, his posture lacking its usual kingly air.

Normally, Adrian Quincy would never take a personal call during work hours, but this time he did, even halting his subordinates’ report to do so.

Hearing the girl’s sweet words of thanks, Adrian Quincy felt, for the first time, that such pleasantries weren’t just empty talk. He parted his lips and said, "Call me again if you need something in the future."

"I’m sorry! I won’t disturb you then!"

Just as the girl was about to hang up, Adrian Quincy stopped her. "Wait."
