Chapter 78: Chapter 78: The Assessment (3)

Even though all the Hidden Powers inside the Sun Bird are locked. It is still a formidable weapon that is stronger than any steel and sharp enough to cut through a Crisis’s skin.

The perfect weapon for Blaze to use with Lightning Ascension.

He can become even more powerful if Sunrise is still available. Unfortunately for him, the sword is still in recovery mode.

Blaze’s strike shreds through the air, leaving a visible fang of wind blasted out into the room.

He has never been able to do this even with the help of the Solar Armor.

"Impressive! This strike alone can guarantee an A-rank assessment."

Guy comments, typing more information into the touchpad, adding more into Blaze’s record.

The Awakened can activate a green aura that temporarily boosts his physical capabilities. The true extent of the enhancement is unknown. At least three or four times the user’s original abilities. The power can also summon a golden sword.

It is not clear if these two abilities belong to the same power. More examinations are needed...

Blaze keeps dashing forward, getting closer to the main formation of the tanks.

The miniature tanks scatter immediately. They know they can’t hold Blaze off with pure firepower, so the combat plan has changed into skirmishing.

They try to separate from each other and keep their distance from Blaze as far as possible.

Blaze gets close to one of the tanks. He lowers the sword down, preparing to make an upward cut.

The cannon between its legs turns over to him. Its six legs get out of the way for a clear path.

Blaze immediately moves to the side, avoiding the barrel, and at the same time, strikes one of its legs.

Six legs are good for complex maneuvers. But if one of them is gone, all are compromised.

The mechanical leg is cut in half. The blade slices through easily, like cutting meat.

The tank wobbles instantly and loses its balance.

If Blaze keeps attacking, this robot will be broken apart for sure.

But its teammates do not allow that. The surrounding tanks point their cannon at Blaze and provide supporting fire, buying time for the attacked robot.

The skirmishing plan works well in their favor.

The first formation can disintegrate a target quickly. But that has failed because Blaze is more resilient than they anticipated.

This attack plan proves ineffective, so the A.I. inside the robots changes to a skirmishing plan.

Moving, firing, and keeping their distance from each other. So that if one robot is attacked, the other can have time to provide support fire.

Blaze can’t finish off the damaged tank and has to retreat, jumping off from the location.

"Now you know how cunning they can be." Guy says. "These robots are armed with top-of-the-line combat algorithms."

Blaze switches to a reverse grip to hold the Sun Bird.

After getting out of the crossfire, he lifts the sword over his shoulder, holding it like a spear.

And whoosh. The sword is sent off, flying straight into the barrel of the damaged tank.

The compressed air gets stuck inside it, and the enormous force is trapped within.

The impact between the sword and the tank ends with a bang of fire and dust.

The first tank falls and explodes.

"Wow! Very nice out-of-the-box tactic. But you lost your sword. How can you block the pellets now?"

Guy comments.

The tanks immediately lower their center point for a more steady frame. All of the barrels point at Blaze and fire.

Blaze opens his palm. The Sun Bird flies out of the fire and smoke and into his hand.

"Recall ability? So that’s why."

Guy keeps typing on the touchpad.

Blaze slices through the air again, letting out a screeching wind, deflecting most of the bullets.

The strike creates an opening for him to move away, avoiding further barrages of pellets.

He gets close to another tank and slides under it.

Blaze does not know martial arts, nor does he know any sword skills. But he has Zero Mind, a power that lets him do exactly what he wants with his body.

He can imagine just the move he wants to make, and his body will know how to execute that action.

While sliding under the tank, Blaze swirls the Sunbird, cutting all six ankles of this robot.

He gets off from under it in time for it to collapse onto the floor.

Blaze makes a 180-degree spin and slices off the top of the collapse tank, completely neutralizing it.

"Impressive."

Guy says and keeps adding more information.

The Awakened seems to possess an enhanced learning capability as well. He becomes better and better in combat by sheer seconds. It’s like his body can learn just as quickly as his mind.

Blaze jumps away from the decapitated tank, just in time for it to explode to pieces. He dashes into the position with the most robots to wreak havoc.

They thought Blaze lost his weapon, so they regrouped to fire. This causes them to be unable to scatter in time, allowing Blaze to become a menace inside the melee range.

"Incredible."

June says. She observes Blaze closely through the transparent mirror in the observatory.

"Go, Blaze! Go, Blaze!"

Kana moves her hand up and down, shouting words like a true cheerleader.

Alyson crosses her arms, contemplating inside. Blaze is really strong... Am I even worthy of him?

Parts and parts of the machines drop onto the floor.

The entire battle plan of the miniature tanks is ruined. Blaze has been able to decimate half of their forces, with only a dozen tanks left to try and survive.

"Alright. You can stop! Further assessment is unnecessary, only increasing the repair cost."

With one click on his touchpad, Guy stops all the robots in their path. They become motionless and stand in place.

Blaze stops his strike in mid-motion and lowers down the sword. He exhales, and the green aura disappears immediately.

Thanks to the increased Endurance, he can hold his breath for quite a long time. Blaze estimated he would be able to hold it for around ten minutes while doing a high level of athleticism before giving out.

Continue the fight a bit more, and he would have to exhale. Then the obvious weakness will be exposed to the league.

As nice as Guy can be, the Awakened League is still hosted by the Giants. The organizations that Blaze has little to no faith in.

"You were not kidding when you said you were A-rank."

Guy laughs out loud and pats Blaze’s back hard.

"Ouch!"

"Oh, sorry! I thought you could take it?"

Guy’s power enhances his physicality as well, so a simple pat on the back can be very strong. If Blaze still holds his breath, he might be able to shake it off. But not when he is in a normal state.

"Hmm. So your physical conditions are only enhanced when the aura is present, am I correct?"

Guy is able to deduce a lot of Blaze’s power by a simple gesture. This makes Blaze suspicious if the Guy did it on purpose.

"Yeah, you are right."

Blaze says. No point in lying since Guy already knows about it. But he has no intention of telling Guy about the breathing.

"Do you have any limitations to this aura?"

"It just drains my stamina more, that’s all."

"Alright. Let me put it in.

Strength assessment is A4. Speed is A5. Attacking power is definitely A3.

That sword of yours, are there any limitations to it?"

"No. Not really."

"Okay. I just want to remind you that keeping secrets about your power is wise. But if you receive too high of a rating, you may be assigned to very dangerous missions later on the line.

Those that you won’t be able to handle. I saw many guys do the same and get too much on their plates.

All died a pointless death.

So I would advise you to tell me as many limitations as possible."

"Hmm."

Guy has a point. Having a high power rating can be a privilege but also will be subjected to more dangerous missions. Pretending to be weak also has its perks. Your enemies will have no idea how strong you actually are.

The Wraith needs to be as powerful and fearsome as possible.

But for Blaze Singer, he just needs to be powerful enough.

"Actually... You know what. I have a lot of limitations."

Blaze makes up a bunch of bullshit limitations to his power. None are even remotely real.
