BAM! BAM! BAM!
In an instant, the hammer swept over their heads. More than a dozen skulls exploded, spraying blood everywhere.
"Why is the world so full of scum like this!"
With Suo Ming slung over his shoulder and the hammer in his right hand, Wang Meng faced the swarming disciples of the Mad Sword Sect. Their sword strikes were completely useless, and not a single one of them could dodge the swing of his hammer.
One after another, heads exploded.
"This is for Uncle Lin."
"This is for Aunt Lin."
Wang Meng had seen his fair share of the world’s ugliness, but he was still human. And this was something no human could tolerate.
Slaughter!
Disciple after disciple of the Mad Sword Sect fell. In the blink of an eye, more than fifty were dead, every last one of them killed with a single hammer strike that blew their heads apart.
Pu Ba was stunned. ’What kind of Demon Technique is this? He’s untouchable! Even Sword Qi has no effect. How is this possible!’
’But his Elemental Power fluctuations aren’t even that strong!’
"Attack, attack, attack!"
Pu Ba roared.
Another wave of Mad Sword Sect disciples charged. Wang Meng’s figure weaved through the flashes of sword light and emerged unscathed. In his wake, the disciples all froze in place for a moment before their heads exploded in unison.
In just a few moments, a third of the Mad Sword Sect’s disciples lay dead, including many who were above the Twentieth Layer.
Wang Meng wiped some blood off himself. "Suo Ming, we’re almost halfway there. This is a bit of a pain, I’ll admit. But don’t you worry. Not a single one of them is getting away."
"Attack! All of you, together! Use the Yin Ji Thunder!" Pu Ba roared.
Several disciples immediately charged forward, unleashing more than a dozen black orbs of light.
Yin Ji Thunder was a particularly insidious type of Hidden Weapon. It would detonate on contact with Elemental Power, releasing a poisonous flame. Those who survived the blast would be left permanently crippled.
A smirk touched the corner of Wang Meng’s lips. ’And they think these little toys are worth showing off.’
With a stomp of his foot, a spinning Array materialized on the ground. As the Yin Ji Thunder orbs reached him, they were suddenly caught in its rotation and flung back out in all directions.
BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!
Yin Flame erupted outwards, and the Mad Sword Sect disciples scattered with agonized howls. Wang Meng paused for a beat, then slammed his hammer into the ground. A massive Array erupted—Endless Sea!
Instantly, the fleeing disciples found the ground beneath them had turned into a quagmire, and their bodies began to sink.
Wang Meng hitched Suo Ming higher on his shoulder. "Why the rush to leave? The real fun is just beginning!"
Wang Meng walked among them, his hammer falling again and again...
Pu Ba’s hands were trembling. He had killed before—killed many people, in fact. But he had never seen anyone slaughter over two hundred men with a smile on his face. The Mad Sword Sect’s grounds were now deserted, stained red with blood. Only he remained. He felt as if he were in a demonic trance. A sudden jolt shot through him, but... he was still alive!
As Wang Meng turned, Pu Ba unleashed a torrential blast of Sword Qi and charged. It was his signature move: the Chaotic Cloak Mad Killing Sword!
But even Sword Qi backed by the Elemental Power of a cultivator above the Fortieth Layer made no difference. After the barrage of strikes, Wang Meng and Suo Ming’s bodies simply flickered back into solid form.
"You... Who are you? Who in the hell are you?! What have I ever done to you?!" Pu Ba shrieked, his body taking several steps back despite his words.
Wang Meng smiled. "Did you ask yourself that question when you were pillaging Tongming City?"
"Do you know who my master is? Do you know who’s backing me? If you kill me, there won’t be a place for you to hide in this entire world, no matter how big it is!"
Wang Meng shook his head slightly. "You can’t even commit to being a villain. What a failure. I’ll leave you with some final words. Heaven and Earth are ruthless, treating all of creation as disposable. The strong are ruthless, treating the weak as disposable!"
A breeze stirred. Pu Ba’s head separated from his body, severed by a flicker of a blade. As his head flew through the air, its eyes were wide with disbelief. "A Sword-Controlling Immortal... you..."
THUD. The head hit the ground, silencing the rest of his words.
As Wang Meng displayed his Divine Power, the sky had already grown dark with clouds, rumbling with thunder. His Elemental Power was only at the Twelfth Layer. It would be impossible to kill so many people with that level of power, even with a Secret Technique. There was only one explanation: he had used his Godhood to command his Magic. But doing so meant exposing his Godhood to the Power of Laws, which would certainly draw a Celestial Tribulation.
’But at least, I’ve gotten revenge.’
Gazing up at the Celestial Tribulation gathering in the sky, Wang Meng placed Suo Ming and Pu Ba’s head onto the Golden Rhinoceros. He patted the beast. "Go on now. Don’t wait for me."
The Golden Rhinoceros kept looking back, but after Wang Meng repeatedly shooed it away, it finally turned and bolted.
’I never regret anything. Besides, this Celestial Tribulation and I are old friends.’
’They say your soul is utterly annihilated by a Celestial Tribulation. I wonder what that feels like.’
Wang Meng had no intention of resisting. He had the right understanding, but his Elemental Power was worlds away from what was needed. Resistance was futile.
’The wine was good. A bit of a shame, but some things just have to be done.’
Celestial Thunder rolled across the sky, completely sealing off Wang Meng’s location and cutting off any chance of escape.
Wang Meng suddenly looked up, a hint of surprise on his face. ’Wait... there’s something wrong with this Celestial Tribulation!’
Although the Celestial Tribulation looked ferocious, its nature wasn’t destructive. Instead, it felt more like a seal.
This was the Heaven and Earth Spirit Locking Array, used against ascending Spirit Beasts, not the Celestial Thunder Array used against Cultivators.
’Unbelievable. The Power of Laws thinks I’m a Spirit Beast.’
Wang Meng didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. The Heaven and Earth Spirit Locking Array was already descending, shrinking layer by layer until it settled completely upon him.
It wasn’t a pleasant sensation, but compared to the Celestial Thunder, it was like a gentle massage.
The Power of Laws had mistaken his Godhood for a Spirit Beast’s Inner Core and sealed it away completely. And so, Wang Meng became the first Cultivator in history to be branded with the Heaven and Earth Spirit Locking Array.
The dark clouds scattered, and the power of the heavens and the earth gradually faded. Wang Meng, still not sure whether to laugh or cry, chugged the remaining half-bottle of wine. ’Looks like my luck has really turned around,’ he thought. ’To survive something like that... must be a massive karma payout.’
The Laws of Heaven and Earth were meant to destroy aspiring humans and suppress ascending beasts. When a Spirit Beast attempted to ascend, it would either succeed or be sealed. If it managed to break the seal, it could still complete its ascension. Cultivators weren’t so lucky. If they failed, nine times out of ten, they were obliterated into nothing but ash.
Wang Meng inspected the Heaven and Earth Spirit Locking Array inside his body and couldn’t help but marvel at the terrifying Mysteries of Heaven and Earth. The array was a seamless whole. Even though it was only at the level of a Small Thousand World, it was utterly without flaw.
’The Five Elements Array is considered one of the strongest because of the seamless interplay of its elements, but clearly, the Laws of Heaven and Earth are on an even higher level.’
Fortunately, it had only sealed his Godhood; it didn’t affect Wang Meng’s personal strength. The Laws of Heaven and Earth had likely just ignored his paltry Twelfth-Layer Elemental Power.
Having finished the wine, Wang Meng staggered down the mountain. ’Being alive is better than being dead, of course,’ he mused. ’Looks like this heaven-defying journey of mine will have to continue.’
As the sun rose in the east, the first rays of light touched the land, and Suo Ming awoke. He scrambled to his feet and stared blankly at his surroundings. ’What’s going on? Why am I still at the graves of Uncle Lin’s family???’
Suo Ming slapped himself. The sharp sting of pain confirmed he wasn’t dreaming.
Suddenly, he saw the head placed before the grave. ’Isn’t that... Pu Ba?!’
’It’s the head of our enemy!’
Suo Ming fell to his knees with a thud. "Uncle Lin! Aunt Lin! Little Xiu! I’ve brought our enemy’s head to honor your spirits! You can rest in peace now!"
Wang Meng walked over and handed him two bottles of wine. "Say your goodbyes."
GLUG, GLUG. Suo Ming drained one bottle, then poured the other out before the graves. He then respectfully bowed three times, touching his forehead to the ground.
"Boss, I’m a simple man, Suo Ming. I don’t know how to repay such a great debt. All I have is this worthless life of mine. If I can’t pay you back in this life, I’ll pay you back in the next!"
Wang Meng just smiled. "Let’s go. It’s time to head back."
’Without the protection of my Godhood, it’ll be hard to bluff my way past any real masters. Time to head back to the Holy Hall.’
