Chapter 977: The Party

Arty woke the next morning with a bubbling excitement that made her sit up before the sunlight had even fully spilled through her window.

This otherworld place was strange, beautiful, and alive with Magic, and it was turning out far better than she had expected.

It felt like stepping into the very pages of the fairy tales she had once seen in her own world.

Here, she could use her abilities as much as she wanted without the fearful stares from people, without whispers of "dangerous" around her that she always heard her mother and big brother was saying.

Well... maybe she was still dangerous with her power. But instead of cowering, the people here admired her for it and even praised her.

She stretched, then slipped out of bed and padded to the small adjoining bath. The steam and warm water woke her completely, and by the time she dressed in the simple but finely made clothes Sylmira had given her, her mind was already racing ahead.

She perched on the edge of her bed again, thinking.

It had only been a few days since she’d arrived but her control over her powers had already improved dramatically. Now comes the real challenge, she must venture into the wilderness for her first taste of adventure.

The thought sent a thrill through her chest, but it was laced with another quieter feeling.

Eccar’s sudden departure still bothered her. He had gone to another world and no doubt was doing something important. But no one had told her exactly what.

Erend and Eccar were keeping something from her. She could feel it. Wasn’t the whole point of sending her here to make her useful? If so... why leave her in the dark?

The answer that came to her was unpleasant but logical. Maybe they simply thought she wasn’t ready. Maybe to them, telling her anything now would be a waste of time.

Arty’s hands curled into small fists on her lap.

Fine, then. She would become strong enough that no one could ever use that excuse again.

A light knock on her door pulled her from her thoughts. She rose and opened it to find Sylmira standing there, her usual serene smile in place.

"Come," the Archmage said warmly. "It’s time for breakfast."

They made their way to the familiar tavern, where the smell of fresh bread and spiced stew wrapped around them.

Arty ate heartily, the excitement she’d been holding in beginning to bubble up again.

When they finished, Sylmira set her cup down and regarded Arty with a faint, knowing smile.

"This is the right time for you to go out into the world and see it for yourself," she said.

Arty’s eyes lit up. "Who will I go with? You must be too busy to come with me... you’re the Archmage."

Sylmira nodded. "You right. Which is why I’ve already arranged a commission. The adventurers who will accompany you should arrive any moment now."

They didn’t have to wait long. Ten minutes later, the door to their room swung open and four figures in travel-worn adventuring gear stepped inside.

Arty’s smile spread immediately. They looked exactly like the parties she’d seen in fantasy shows, down to the weathered boots and confident postures, and their weapons in hands.

Sylmira gestured toward them. "This is the best party in the Qomore Kingdom. Introduce yourselves, adventurers."

The first, a lean man with a bow slung across his back, nodded. "My name is Jan and I’m a ranger."

Next was a broad-shouldered fighter with a sword at his hip. "I’m Hund."

"I’m Esther, and I’m a witch." said a young woman in a wide-brimmed hat, flowing robes. Her hand on a polished staff.

The last was a woman clad in white and gold, wearing a pendant, and had blonde hair. "Call me Annette, I’m a priest."

Arty’s heart was pounding now. Her first real step into adventure was actually started.

Arty straightened in her seat, meeting the eyes of the four adventurers with a bright, earnest smile.

"I’m Arty," she said cheerfully.

Jan’s lips quirked into a knowing smirk.

"We already know who you are," he replied. "And we know your brother."

Arty blinked, tilting her head in confusion. "You... do?"

Jan chuckled, leaning casually against the back of a chair. "Yeah. We’ve worked with him before to face an ancient god together in the forest."

The way he said it was almost lighthearted, like it was just another job on the guild board. While in fact they almost lost their lives.

Arty, however, only stared for a moment, processing the words. Then she nodded slowly, her tone calm and certain. "Hmm... That’s just like Erend,"

Her simple statement landed like a stone dropped into still water.

The adventurers exchanged glances, their earlier ease faltering. Hund’s brows lifted slightly. Esther frowned, tilting her head as if she’d misheard. Even Annette’s ever-composed expression wavered.

For them, the ancient god had been the kind of opponent most sane people avoided. The mere presence of that god almost made their brain damaged or just killed them on the spot. One minute too late and the god could have wiped them all out.

And here was Arty, speaking of her brother’s involvement as though it were... normal and expected of him.

It wasn’t just the confidence in her tone. It was the certainty that Erend had faced far worse. That realization sank in with an uncomfortable weight.

If the ancient god was not the most dangerous thing he had dealt with, then what had Erend and Eccar been up against all this time?

The silence that followed was thick, broken only when Sylmira stood.

"Arty, you can go with them around the kingdom for now. I’ll prepare your equipment while you get acquainted," Sylmira said.

Arty looked toward her, then turned back to the adventurers. Her smile returned, warmer this time.

"Alright," she said, rising from her seat. "I’ll be in your hands."

Jan gave a short nod, though his eyes lingered on her a moment longer, still measuring her.

Hund offered a faint grin. "We’ll make sure you see the good parts first."

Esther adjusted her hat, still looking faintly puzzled.

Annette only murmured, "We’ll keep her safe, Archmage."

Arty didn’t notice their subtle shock. She was too busy thinking about the journey ahead.
