Chapter 981: Start Bloming

Erend extinguished the fire instantly. The flames folding in on themselves as if retreating from an invisible grip.

His expression didn’t waver at all because this much was nothing for him now.

With the heat fading into silence he stepped toward the pod that had caused the eruption and scanning for the source.

Inside the pod there was a woman with short hair and an average build lay still in sedation, her face relaxed as though in a dreamless sleep. She had no idea of the chaos she’d unleashed.

Erend studied her for a moment, then turned to the staff that had retreated pretty far.

"Record this one and mark this candidate for observation," he ordered.

"Yes, sir," came the quick reply, and several staff members began entering notes into their tablets.

Instead of returning to the platform, Erend remained in the pod chamber. His instincts told him this wasn’t over. In the stages like this it was notorious for instability.

Uncontrolled surges were almost inevitable at this point and everyone in the project had been bracing for it.

Up in the observation room, Jessica glanced between the floor below and Adrien.

"Captain... should we go down and help Sergeant Drake?" Jessica asked with tension on her voice.

Adrien didn’t even look away from the scene. "No. We just stay here. He’ll handle it. Down there was too dangerous for us."

Jessica hesitated, then gave a small, silent nod. Billy remained quiet. His eyes fixed on Erend.

They understood his capability better than she did and this was why he was here. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Adrien’s decision was justified almost immediately.

Another violent surge erupted, this time from the opposite side of the chamber. Air blasted outward from a pod in a spiraling gale, rattling equipment and forcing several staff to shield their faces.

Before the wind could grow destructive, Erend was already there and stepping forward with deliberate calm. His presence seemed to smother the current. The chaotic vortex unraveling into nothing.

No sooner had that been handled than a different pod shuddered, a sudden torrent of water bursting against the reinforced casing.

The containment seals held but only barely, streams of water cascading onto the floor.

Erend moved again and sealing the surge with a precise manipulation of Magic. The water vanishing in seconds.

Moments later, arcs of raw Magic aura shot across the chamber like wild lightning, lashing against the machinery.

Sparks flew, warning lights flashed. The systems here were designed to endure such outbursts and tuned and reinforced for exactly this purpose. But even so, a few machines began to fail, their displays flickering and shutting down.

Through it all, Erend worked methodically extinguishing each surge before it could escalate. His movements were efficient and unhurried.

The staff could only watch as the chaos was brought under control piece by piece.

Finally, when the air settled and the last threads of unstable Magic dissipated, Erend straightened and surveyed the damage.

Several machines would need repair before the next session. He turned toward the observation room, his voice carrying across the chamber.

"We should end it for today."

Nobody argued for that. After witnessing the raw unpredictable destruction, they were all relieved to shut the session down.

The candidates were transported one by one to the infirmary. They were carefully lifted from their pods and placed on stretchers.

The medics moved quickly, checking vital signs, administering stabilizing treatments, and scanning for any internal injuries.

Despite the chaos earlier, none of them have visible wounds. When questioned, their answers were eerily similar. They had no memory of the events. Only one sensation lingered for them all. It was the sensation of a strange crawling movement inside their bodies, as though something foreign was shifting just beneath the skin. Beyond that there was nothing more.

Jessica reported the incident’s details to General Lennard alone. Her voice was steady and professional while giving the reports, though her eyes showed the weight of the day’s events.

Meanwhile, Erend, Billy, Adrien, Thomas, and Conrad gathered in a secure conference room to decide their next move.

"We start field training," Erend stated firmly. "This time, they will feel like training their body from zero."

Adrien leaned forward. "What exactly are we training?"

"They need to control their talent in Magic," Erend replied without hesitation. "Some already show clear elemental affinity like you all saw. Fire, water, or wind. The others might have talents like telekinesis, physical enhancement, or barrier creation. If we don’t help them master it soon, the next incident could be far worse."

The room fell quiet for a moment before heads began to nod in agreement. The logic was undeniable.

"Alright," Billy said at last. "Who’s going to train them? Can you do that?"

That question silenced the table again.

Erend’s gaze swept over the group before he finally spoke. "No. Not me. But I’ll contact some friends in the other world."

The words hung in the air. Conrad’s eyes lingered on Erend with a mix of curiosity and envy.

The ease with which Erend could cross worlds was something he had long dreamed of. In that other realm lay the possibility of finding the one he had lost. But now was not the time.

With a quiet sigh, he forced the longing down.

Billy leaned back in his chair, arms crossed.

"Then I’ll let you handle it," he said with a relaxed smile.

Adrien gave a small shrug. "He is right. The only one who can pull this off is you, Erend."

Erend didn’t respond, only giving a short nod. The meeting soon broke apart, the others dispersing with quiet discussions among themselves.

He left the conference room and made his way down the dimly lit corridor toward his quarters.

His boots echoed against the metal flooring, the day’s weight pressing on his shoulders.

The incidents in the pod chamber had only confirmed what he already knew. The timeline was going faster than he thought, and control was everything.

Inside his room, the faint hum of the ventilation system filled the silence.

Erend sat at his desk. His fingers tapping absently against the polished wood.

Only one name came to mind, one person he could trust to guide raw unstable talent into something safe and useful.

Adrius, Archmage of the Astoria Kingdom.

Erend doubted Adrius would come in person. It will be good if he will, but he was not sure. So perhaps he could send a few trusted apprentices, or at least a set of basic Magic manuals for beginners or some kind.
