I Refused To Be Reincarnated-Chapter 621: When Humanity Burns Away
Chapter 621: When Humanity Burns Away
Adam’s lips quivered as he scrutinised Ye Feng’s unscathed muscles. The elements flowed down his taut skin like soft water rather than destructive forces, unable to damage it.
Time. No matter how, he had to buy time until Xian Yunxu returned with the guardians. Hopefully, Ye Feng was still inside the abomination.
His fingers tightened around his sword, his eyes narrowing. "Fool! The cursed powers you’re playing with are beyond your control. Wake up! Wake up and discard that demonic artifact while you still can, or you’ll become what Prometheus died to repel: a threat to humanity much worse than the magus!"
A sinister sneer and an accusing finger answered his justified concerns.
"Don’t speak Prometheus’ name with your foul mouth, magus spawn. I prepared my entire life for this moment, all to behead your real body."
He hugged his sides, his head leaning back as he laughed. "Hahaha. The torture of stuffing my veins with demon blood, bathing in infernos, and forcing my cultivation into Qi deviation was worth it. I’m the puppet’s master. I’m Earth’s hero." His voice turned icy as he glared at Adam. "And I’m the one who surpassed Prometheus."
"But tell me..." A demonic smirk that let his sharp teeth out split his face. "You’re not trying to buy time, right?"
BOOM
"Shit." Adam palled as lightning arcs blinded him, and the tomb burst. Before the charred rubble could even hit the ground, his traps detonated one after another.
Yet, neither the frozen spikes nor the explosions slowed down the ashen blur Ye Feng had turned into.
Without wasting a second, he tapped on the ground—just as he felt the fiery sharpness of a clawed hand about to tear his face.
His mana burst out, forming a dark arrow pointing to the destroyed tomb before him.
Suddenly, Ye Feng froze mid-air, his claws a centimeter away from gouging his eyes.
Icy sweat dripped down his temples, a sensation of dread crawling beneath his bristled hair as he endured the malice buried in Ye Feng’s blazing glare.
Why? Why did he have to go this far? Was it because of the misunderstanding? No... Ye Feng said he had prepared for this moment his entire life.
’I’m just a convenient excuse, a justification to his madness. He knows I’m unrelated to the magus, but continues...’
He clenched his jaw. He couldn’t waste time on emotions.
With a command, the arrow vibrated to life. Under its influence, gravity increased tenfold and shifted backwards.
WOOSH
With a whistle and blurring as fast as he had approached, Ye Feng darted to the opposite side of the tomb.
CRASH
His body smashed through the scarred walls, rocks burying him under a layer of dust.
Yet, he shoved everything aside with a dismissive gesture and patted his powerful chest with a smirk.
"Petty tricks won’t work for long." Powerful tremors pulsed through his arms before green flames crackled around his clenched fist. "My strength is absolute. Range isn’t your domain anymore."
Adam’s eyes widened as he yelled in horror. "Don’t use them! No matter how much you prepared yourself to accept demonic power, it’ll never be enough!"
He pointed at his head, circling his finger around his temple to emphasise his next words. "Don’t you feel your mind slipping into violence? Don’t you hear a vicious voice enticing you with promises?"
Ye Feng’s face darkened. "Only the weak will succumb to its whispers. And so far, everything it said is true. Sacrifices are necessary. What’s a morsel of sanity when Luna had planned to sacrifice us to strengthen Prometheus? Power is law, and with it, I’ll carve a bright future for us."
"Hahaha!" Adam laughed icily, his eyes narrowing into mocking slits. "Resist? One of the demon realm’s three treasures? And without any contract to ensure your safety? That’s the best joke I’ve ever heard."
He raised his hand, a blazing sun igniting in his trembling palm. "I’m done reasoning with a stubborn fool. Your heroic dream threatens everyone. I won’t let it happen!"
What sacrifices? Prometheus had fought alone, going as far as to oppose Luna to avoid them. Yet, Ye Feng kept referring to him, each hypocritical word he spouted an insult to his legacy.
Simultaneously, Ye Feng snorted. He was the one fed up with this ant’s worthless warnings... No, it was jealousy. After all, he became unmatched, a powerhouse edging on the ninth tier.
Even better, he felt the symbiotic puppet strengthen him with each second crawling by. The pinnacle was at arm’s reach, and soon, even the realm’s dao ancestors would pale compared to him. But first, every disciple in the blessed land had to die to keep his secret.
His smirk broadened to reach his eyes as he hurled his fist, roaring green flames erupting. "I’ll engrave arrogant on your grave."
Adam watched the irregular tongues swirl in his direction, his robes sticking to his sweaty skin and the air burning his lungs.
Yet, he didn’t counterattack. Instead, the metallic tang of blood filled his mouth as he bit down on his lip. No doubts clouded his mind anymore. Ye Feng, a summoned earthling, one of Prometheus’ living legacies, had to die by his hands before his madness drowned the realm in blood.
’Forget about buying time. He’s too fast. I’ll butcher this bastard myself.’
Defiance burning in his eyes, he condensed an arrow beneath his feet. He gritted his teeth, his hair whipping his face as it jerked him to the right.
The flames brushed his left side, the horrible heat causing the water in his eyes to boil. Yet, he kept them wide open and condensed another arrow. It propelled him to the left as Ye Feng roared in laughter and attacked relentlessly.
Death accompanied each narrow dodge. But it was a growing sensation of unease that preoccupied him. He could feel it in his mythical bones. Ye Feng’s humanity burned away like a candle the more strikes he shot.
’I only have one chance.’ He clutched the sun in his palm, his hair evaporating under the green flames as he formed five arrows pointing to Ye Feng.
WOOSH
The wind roared in his ears, and his face distorted under the horrifying pressure shooting him forward. With a thought, he ripped the dozens of gravity arrows marking the ground and forcefully gathered them around the miniature sun.
Compressed to unimaginable levels, its density multiplied, scalding arc running on its surface to create a blinding corona. The heat charred his arm and overwhelmed even Ye Feng’s flames.
Horrified by the volatile energy, he condensed a final arrow pointing back.
"Huff." The shattered momentum knocked the air out of his lungs and jerked his palm toward Ye Feng, firing the sun with unavoidable momentum at point blank range!
Despite the pain, he raised his burned arm, flicking his middle finger and swinging his right arm up as he mouthed, ’BOOM.’
Ye Feng’s eyes narrowed against the radiance, his lips letting out a mocking sneer. If one thing was ineffective against him, it was heat. Still, he entertained Adam in his last moment by leaping aside, the sun brushing his helmet.
Then, he raised his fist, ready to end Adam once and for all before he crashed against the wall.
However, a sudden crack alerted him. He snapped his head back—just in time to see the sun’s core ignite.
A chain reaction followed. The atoms, compressed by the horrible gravity brought by the arrows, merged one after another.
BOOM
The ground vaporised several kilometers down as dozens of almost simultaneous nuclear explosions rocked the tomb. The ceiling above the detonation collapsed as a fiery mushroom cloud pierced through the palace’s corridor to reach for the sky.
And in the middle of the unbearable deflagration, Ye Feng roared in agony.
Despite his resistance and the demonic flames trying to shield him, his ashen skin evaporated in a scarlet mist, laying his powerful muscle fibers bare. But he tensed his neck and clenched his fists.
He had no clue how long those explosions would last, but considering the sun’s size, it would run out of energy sooner than later.
"Endure." He spat through gritted teeth, his eyes reddening and his body twisting as he drew more power from the puppet. Tentacles erupted and wrapped his limbs in an unholy spectacle. His helmet refined itself, turning into an owl’s head as wings sprouted from his back.
His voice grew guttural and deep next, echoing the puppet’s ancient tone. No, or had it overwhelmed Ye Feng’s mind?
"Indeed, little fool. Endure, all to rip humans to shreds. For the demon realm, for Andras. Hahaha!"
