Chapter 40: 40:Too much anger.(bonus)

Atheline looked at the hand wrapped around his wrist. Really stared at their contrast in colour. He then looked up at her.

Her eyes still carried the deep obsession he had never seen conveyed in her words.

The chaos caused by the elements inside of him had stopped. How naturally she did it.

That alone made something twist inside his chest.

’Just how pathetic must I look’

"... Let go," he said quietly.

She didn’t. " You’re not stable yet."

Atheline clenched his jaw.

"I didn’t ask for your help."

She sighed softly.

"No," she replied calmly," you just came to a place that would kill you and let your core shatter."

That hit harder than he thought it would. It felt as though he were a child being reprimanded for his carelessness.

Atheline clenched his fists.

"I said," he repeated, his voice dropping, " let go."

She looked at him while considering his request then slowly let go of his hand. He staggeringly stood up while trying to prevent himself from falling.

The withdrawal of her power had an immediate effect. The balance she had been holding on broke and his power exploded again.

Gusts of wind integrated with lighting circled him. Atheline staggered then steadied himself while breathing hard.

His eyes locked onto hers, a smirk forming on his face.

"Good," he said.

Nothing felt good but the pain she had stopped had now come back , he could now feel everything tenfold.

She stood there, observing him without a smidgen of fear from his display of power.

"You shouldn’t push it," she said.

"Or what?" he snapped "It will kill me?"

A bitter laugh escaped him.

"Sounds familiar?" She said nonchalantly.

That was the moment it crossed the line.

He moved first.

A burst of wind launched him forward, his usual controlled way of fighting thrown away. At the moment only anger existed.

His fist came at her, though crudely enhanced with lightening he couldn’t fully control.

She didn’t dodge immediately. She stood there watching him, then at the last second, she stepped aside effortlessly.

His attack slammed onto the trees behind her splintering them into pieces.

"Sloppy," she said.

Killian spun, faster this time.

Wind and lightning surged together as he struck towards her again.

She blocked.

Her hand caught his fist mid strike.

The moment their hands touched, the power inside him flickered as it destabilised for a moment.

Killian’s eyes widened.

" Still reacting, I see," she murmured.

He yanked his hand back violently causing him to stumble backwards.

"Don’t... You don’t get to fix this just like that!"

The ground underneath her shifted before spikes shot towards her. She moved in a blur dodging every jagged pillar with minimal effort.

Unlike how calm she was, Atheline was the complete opposite in the fight.

He pushed forward his fragile core furiously circulating Aether as it provided him with more power and force but he was losing the little control he had in the process.

Every element around him had become unpredictable as he pushed himself further and she saw it clearly.

He was strong, but unstable.

She noticed every flaw, opening, and every moment his control slipped further. Lilith knew it, if she had been his enemy he would have been dead a long time ago.

"You’re fighting yourself, " she said.

"Shut up!" He snapped back.

He raised his hand and tried to focus on one element. He wanted to use only what he was familiar with, the wind, without involving the others.

Instead, everything that could go wrong went wrong at the moment.

Every element inside of him answered. A violent surge exploded outwards, too much for his body to endure or even wield.

More cracks formed in his core while his purple eyes started to turn, black.

A sign of corruption. He was taking too much from nature than his body could endure.

The backlash hit him instantly.

Atheline gasped as his body locked, the excess Aether tearing through him again.

Lilith moved, fast towards him. She caught him before he collapsed.

"You idiot," she murmured under her breath.

"Don’t..touch... Me..." he forced out weakly as he tried to push her away.

His strength left him at that moment but the energy inside of him surged again more violently than before.

Atheline’s body arched slightly, pain flashing across his face.

"...it’s rejecting you," she said quietly.

"I noticed that," he choked out.

Her grip tightened around him but the look of concern didn’t leave her face.

"Stop resisting it."

A strained laugh escaped him. " Thats your advice."

"No," she said.

Her eyes felt as though they were staring directly at his very being.

"Stop resisting yourself. "

That caused him to freeze. For a split second, the chaos inside of him stopped and that was enough for her.

She placed her hand on top of his chest right above his heart, and released her Aether into his body.

Atheline’s breath hitched.

"What are you ..."

"Be still..." she said softly but firmly.

The energy inside him reacted instantly. The clashing elements calmed down as though they were being guided through his body.

’This is...’

Atheline knew the feeling. His mother had done the same to him when he was six after his element went out of control during one of his training sessions when he got too frustrated.

"What are you doing.. stop it you.." he tried to resist but it was weaker.

Guiding someone Aether becomes harder and more taxing the stronger someone becomes since the Aether channels are fully developed. He didn’t know if it would affect her.

"I’m correcting your mistake."

Atheline’s eyes narrowed slightly. He felt uncomfortable especially after his outburst at her.

Reason was now coming slowly back to him.

"I didn’t ask for that," he said softly.

She shook her head.

"No," she said," but you need it."

Silence fell between them.

His breath slowed down as it steadied, his lungs had stopped feeling like they were being squeezed.

Their proximity hadn’t changed despite everything if anything they had gotten closer now.

Too close.

Atheline marveled at her scent despite beating himself inwardly.

Atheline looked at her, really looked at her.

"I should hate you," he said quietly.

Her expression didn’t change but the hand on his chest pressed harder.

"You probably do."

"I don’t know if I do," he admitted.

That was far more dangerous than hating her. She was the villainess for God’s sake and here they were.

Her gaze softened a little.

"Good."

Killian frowned.

"Why is it good?" He asked her.

"Because it means you haven’t decided to leave yet."

"Sorry for earlier, " Atheline said, guiltily.

He felt bad for attacking her even though he knew he would lose it didn’t sit well with him.

She held her small smile.

"It’s okay, I enjoyed it." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺

Her hand moved up to his neck rubbing the side softly.

"What are you doing?" He asked her confused.

"What’s good for both of us."

Atheline chuckled softly.

"You don’t get to decide that."

She smiled up at him.

"It’s okay, I know what’s best for you."

Her hand suddenly tightened around his neck.

"Wait..."

Everything went dark.

’I’m sorry but this is for the best... Why did you run?’

She kissed him softly a twisted smile forming on her face. Her body trembled softly as she ran her hand over his face, mapping his features.

"He’s mine...haa... fully mine," she mumbled to herself.

Lilith held Atheline’s unconscious body to herself and her power covered them as they left the forest.
