I Was a Loner, but My Class Got Summoned to Another World…-Chapter 498: Promises and Partings
By the time the castle had quieted down after dinner and when everyone played around after with Marie's new video game, Lisa guided him back toward his room. The torchlight flickered over her now even, pale features. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
Logan knew it was due to the light spirit's influence; just like his hair had turned from chocolate to dark black with white highlights, now the tip of his hair even showed a few green parts.
As they went inside, Logan eased into the large sofa near his bed, his chest still tight from the day's strain. Kryst had withdrawn earlier just before they ate so she was not around, leaving only Lisa and him within the large room.
Lisa remained standing, arms crossed, her eyes sharp while glaring at him.
"You promised me you would rest after I healed you," she began, voice low but firm. "And yet, the moment I turned my back, you forced yourself to move… why do you think we are trying hard to get stronger Logan."
Logan met her gaze, guilt in his eyes, but his voice and composer had a resolution he couldn't hide. "I just needed to know that you all were safe… Knowing you were in the labyrinth you have to understand that I kept thinking that that man… would show up… I just know he won't stay in the labyrinth forever. If he came to fight you all I would at least want to have the time to send someone to help you—"
"—Yes, we know, that is why we were careful from the start." Her words cut him short, trembling though she tried to sound unshaken. "Logan, we almost lost you. Do you understand that? When Scorch pulled you out, your mana core was in pieces. If Scorch and Zephyr hadn't carried you out… you would have died in there."
Her arms dropped, fists clenching at her sides. "So, you can't keep doing this. Not anymore, you aren't alone here, you can't say that when you have so many girls after you. So don't keep being reckless. You're not invincible."
Silence stretched between them.
Logan leaned back, closing his eyes for a moment. "…I know. I'm sorry. I don't mean to scare you all. I just… I can't keep letting the demon's keep getting stronger, that or put you all in danger, what they did to George or Jonathan was cruel, I don't want that for any of you."
Lisa stepped closer, her tone softening though her eyes still glistened with unshed tears. "That's why we're need to work together. You don't have to protect anyone alone, Logan. You should know why you were given that power. Be with us so that we all get stronger and not have to worry about each other… okay?"
Lisa let herself fall near the edge of his bed while exhaling slowly, her hand brushing against his chest to get a handle on her emotions.
"Well than now that the talk is over how about I keep healing you, I recover just enough mana to do this before we sleep. So come here so I can start your treatment.
Logan simply did as he was told and got on the bed, slowly since he could not move too much yet.
As he sat next to her he felt warmth spread from her touch, light elemental mana seeping into him, soothing the irregular pulse of his damaged core.
Logan opened his eyes, meeting hers. "…You did well in that dungeon, I could see how you improved in the way you lead others…"
Her lips curved faintly. "Well I can easily say that I learned that from you..."
The glow of her magic wrapped around him, easing his breath, quieting the ache that had gnawed at him started to dwindle. As always Logan felt safe and well when he was around
Lisa leaned forward, resting her forehead gently against his. "Please, promise me you'll rely on us more. I don't want to keep wondering if the next time I see you will be the last…"
Logan's hand rose to cup her cheek, he couldn't stop the rising of his lips. "Fine, I promise. Next time, I won't face it alone, now stop healing the same part, I still got cuts and burns in other parts I need help with."
There was a silence that followed after his words before Lisa sighed once more.
"Good, now how about some appreciation before I continue, maybe it will motivate me more."
Logan who was still holding her cheek guided her lips towards his and kissed her, they continued just enough that for a while before Logan could not keep sitting anymore.
Days and nights passed in this manner, the girls going into the labyrinth to train, Logan staying around his castle to work on domestic and foreign affairs along with Leonardo.
Today he was finally able to wake up full of energy, his body had sunk into the mattress as he rubbed his eyes and looked around only to notice he was alone.
He felt somewhat sad, he was usually with someone, but these past few days, the girls went into the labyrinth to train.
Not even his maid Ruri was around, something he had taken for granted.
That did not mean there was no one to take care of him, his clothes were all fixed up, his just needed to pick out the set he was going to ware.
Today he went with a completely black suit, it was a nice one that seemed comfortable enough to work around in, even if he was going to be inside most of the time.
Logan dressed slowly, as he started to recall the fussed Ruri would make for leaving or making creases on the clothes she would bring.
He chuckled faintly at the memory and continued on.
Truthfully, he still felt weak, his mana core was at least half way there. But appearances mattered, especially with allies so he tried to always look strong.
When he entered the grand hall, nearly everyone was already present. Lisa stood tall beside Rubina, Alma, Silvia, Serana, Ruri, and Charlotte, their armor suits glimmering faintly even in casual settings. Ruben leaned against the wall, arms crossed as always, while Chloe and Kai stood together in their knightly regalia. Leonardo, ever punctual, had already stacked fresh scrolls to one side, though even he had paused work to attend.
At the center of the hall, the Elris princesses waited. Myrea, the younger one, wore her composed but playful smile, though her eyes carried the sharpness of someone who had shouldered weight beyond her years.
Vianell, younger and more reserved, stood slightly behind her sister, hands folded delicately, her gaze flicking between Logan and Lisa with a quiet curiosity.
"My lord Logan," Myrea greeted warmly, dipping her head. "We just have something we need to speak of before we return to Elris. You have done much for our kingdom already, but I hope this is only the beginning of closer cooperation."
Logan inclined his head, smiling faintly. "I'd like that. The people of Elris stood with us when it mattered most. I won't forget it."
Vianell stepped forward this time, her voice soft but steady. "My brother will need help as well. Prince Reynar… he carries the burden of leading at the border, but his youth makes him reckless. If fate brings you together, I ask that you watch over him, as you have for us."
Logan's brow furrowed slightly. "Reynar… your heir?"
"Yes," Myrea confirmed. "Our brother has always been gifted, chosen by the Spirit of Light itself. But gifts and responsibility are heavy, especially with demons pressing so close. He leads bravely, but bravery without wisdom can be dangerous."
Lisa glanced at Logan, her expression thoughtful. "Sounds familiar," she murmured, just loud enough for him to hear.
Logan smiled faintly but nodded. "If I cross paths with him, I'll do what I can. Not just because you ask it, but because we need to consider him a hero, he has given us time that we needed to train and get better."
The tension eased, and Myrea's smile turned warmer. Yet before the moment could settle, she fixed Logan with a pointed look, her tone taking on a teasing tone. "Then let me say this as both ally and someone who has befriended each girl your with… take care of these girls around you. They are loyal and love you but… a small crack is appearing. You will need to fix it soon."
"Noted," Logan replied dryly, though warmth tugged at his lips.
Silvia stepped forward then, raising her hand. A circle of glowing runes spiraled outward as she stretched her hand, filling the air with a flash of her magic. The Astral Gate shimmered into being, its translucent window revealing the distant lands beyond.
Myrea and Vianell both bowed deeply. "Until next we meet. May light guide your path," the elder intoned, her younger sister echoing the gesture.
"Safe travels," Logan said, steady despite the faint ache in his chest.
One by one, the princesses stepped into the portal, their forms dissolving into motes of starlight until only the faint ripple of magic remained. With a soft sigh, Silvia closed the gate, the glow fading into the silence of the hall.
For a long moment, no one spoke. Then Alma stretched, breaking the quiet with her usual cheerfulness. "Well, that was a bit too formal for me... Anyways, is anyone else hungry again, or is it just me?"
Rubina groaned. "You're always hungry."
The laughter that followed eased the lingering solemnity, but Logan remained thoughtful. His eyes lingered on where the portal had been, his mind already on Reynar, on the Empire, and on the battles yet to come.
Lisa's hand found his shoulder, grounding him. "Don't start brooding about the war just yet. Plus we'll face it together, so just relax."
He met her gaze, then glanced around the hall at his knights, his smith, his advisor, and the women who had fought at his side through thick and thin.
"Right… Together," he echoed softly.
And though his body was still weak, he was slowly feeling how his view was slowly changing.
