Chapter 203: About to Reach

After he was done eating, he took a break for a few minutes and headed towards the black pillar once again.

Time passed quickly, and before long, the surroundings began to darken.

Glancing at the towering pillar hundreds of kilometres away, Yi Chen muttered while leaning against a tree.

"It’s much farther than I thought..."

Today, he had covered more than a hundred kilometres, but still, the size of the black pillar had remained the same.

This had also made him arrive at the conclusion that the size of the black pillar was much larger than he had imagined.

"Will its sides measure in kilometres?" he mused curiously while watching its fading figure.

With the setting of the sun, the sky had started to turn dark. Thanks to that, the black pillar was also slowly blending into the background.

If not for this, Yi Chen would have continued chasing it throughout the night and not camped at this spot.

Without a visual guide, he didn’t dare to continue travelling in this forest where all sides looked almost identical.

"The last thing I want is to trace the same path again from where I’ve come from..." he chuckled to himself while gathering wood to light the fire.

After he was done with dinner, he popped a Qi Nourishing Pill in his mouth, recovered his Qi pool and then focused on refining his meridians for the rest of the night.

It was only when a couple of hours after midnight had passed that he stopped and decided to call it a night.

The next morning, he continued heading towards the black pillar, which didn’t seem to get any closer, no matter what.

Despite that, he kept rushing towards it without pause.

Unlike yesterday, he had started to face a lot of ghostly beasts along the way, which ensured that he had something to keep his mind busy with in this long journey.

’Hehe free EXP!’

Yi Chen grinned and, with excitement apparent in his eyes, kept sending every ghostly beast he encountered into oblivion.

Naturally, he also crossed paths with several other cultivators along the way, and just like before, he used the Bursting Fire Steps and went past them.

Even if they were angered and wanted to give him a chase, with his high comprehension of the Bursting Fire Steps, not many in the Meridian Refinement Stage could keep up with him.

Days passed one after the other, with similar scenes taking place almost every single day.

Fifteen days later.

It was evening, and the sky had turned orange.

Glancing at the black pillar, which had become distinctly larger, he couldn’t help but mutter in relief.

"I’m finally getting closer...just a few more days."

A hint of anticipation was apparent in his eyes. A few seconds later, he opened up his status panel.

In the last fifteen days, he had gained a lot.

=========== End ===========

Glancing at his experience points, which were no longer in single digits, a wide grin formed on his face.

’Should I try to regenerate one status remark?’ he thought curiously as a desire to test this new thing welled up in his mind.

However, he soon shook his head and let go of that idea.

"No, that would be too wasteful. I’ll wait until I genuinely feel the need to do it again." He muttered and soon busied himself with preparing the dinner as the surroundings started to darken.

The next few days passed quietly, with him getting closer and closer to the humongous square prism that towered to the ends of the sky.

Now that he could observe it more clearly, he had stopped calling it just a pillar as its square tower-like shape had become vividly clear to him.

On the morning of the twentieth day, he continued on with his journey with great expectations in his eyes.

His destination was just a little over a hundred kilometres away, and he was confident in being able to reach it before nightfall.

The concentration of ghostly beasts had started to increase as he got closer and closer to his destination.

He didn’t let this opportunity slip and patiently dealt with all the beasts with great relish in his eyes.

As evening was approaching, an excited smile had appeared on Yi Chen’s face as he kept rushing towards the black tower.

It was less than thirty kilometres away, and with his pace, he would reach it before nightfall.

"It would be pretty funny and embarrassing at the same time if all three of them were waiting for me there with folded hands and angry expressions." He mused with a smile and raised his speed with anticipation apparent in his eyes.

CRASH!

All of a sudden, he saw a figure whizz past several small trees, vines and bushes before crashing into a huge tree. The sudden turn of events made Yi Chen stop in his tracks.

Cough! Cough!

The person started coughing up several mouthfuls of blood.

However, instead of pain, an immense sense of urgency was written all over her face. Wiping the blood off her lips, she forced herself to stand up and rush in the direction from where her figure was flung.

"Miss Lan?! What happened?!" Yi Chen couldn’t help but exclaim when he saw who the person was.

At first, a great sense of alarm rose in Zhou Lan’s face when she heard her name called, but upon realising who the other party was, her expression relaxed substantially before turning serious as she said, with great urgency.

"Brother Chen! Help us! Xie Rou and Madam Gao have been surrounded! They won’t be able to defend themselves for longer!"

Hearing her cries of plea, Yi Chen’s countenance turned serious. He didn’t bother to ask about any other details and stated with narrowed eyes.

"Lead me there."
