I Was Just a Cleaner... Until I Got the Demon Extraction System-Chapter 79: Hunter ID is Finally Here
Damian ran toward the creature and jumped on it, preparing a melee attack on it.
The bull didn't stand still and waited to get hit without defending itself. With its 8 arms, it had more than enough capability to not only block Damian's attack but also attack him afterward using one of its many arms.
But to the bull's surprise, and to the examiners' too, when Damian hit the demon on the arm, the force behind the attack was so great that the bull hurt his arm when blocking the attack!
The arm bent with the attack, and the bull didn't counter-attack. It actually retreated a few steps because of the force of that attack.
"How did he do that?" the main examiner said, "That demon is powerful in close combat…"
When they meant powerful, it meant that it was powerful to the participant's standards. Obviously, if any of the hunters fought against that bull, it would lose in seconds.
Mathias watched everything from the back, and he couldn't hold his shock.
"You're so strong!" he said, "We might pass the test."
He was getting excited by it. Damian, on the other hand, was more grounded. He had damaged the bull, but that was just the start of the fight, and there would be more fights to come.
The demon stared at Damian for a moment. Damian thought the creature would try to speak with him like the other demons had tried before, but it didn't. At least not now.
The bull yelled, its roar echoing through the arena. Then, it ran toward Damian. It got angered after receiving that blow on the arm. The creature wanted to kill Damian.
It was fast, and it reached Damian in a matter of a few seconds. Then, using all of its arms, it punched Damian.
Everything happened quickly, so he didn't have time to avoid the attack. What he could do was use both of his arms to block the attack. It didn't look like the best thing to do, but it was better than receiving the attack head-on without blocking.
When the bull's arms hit Damian, the force behind the attack was impressive. It sent him flying toward the other part of the arena. He hit the arena's stone wall, creating a hole in it.
"Damian!" Mathias yelled, worry visible on his face after witnessing such a fierce attack on his friend.
Damian felt a sharp pain in his back after hitting the arena's wall, but it wasn't enough to get him out of the combat. The reason for it was pretty simple: right before he reached the wall, he activated his skill to protect his body.
[Skill Acquired: Hardened Skin (Rank C)]
[Activate to harden your skin, increasing defense against physical, magical, and elemental attacks.]
[Effect: +10 Defense]
It reduced the damage he took greatly, though it didn't mean he didn't feel the attack. But Damian was still fine to keep fighting.
Also, because he used it only to harden his arms and back, no one had seen it. He had his clothes on, so the examiners didn't see that skill of his.
He got up, giving Mathias some sense of relief.
"Are you hurt?" Mathias asked while running toward him.
"I'm fine," Damian said, "I won't let it happen again."
Damian's gaze fell on the bull again. He looked at it with anger. He was angry with himself for losing that exchange against the creature.
To him, he HAD to win that fight, as it was the first one of many. At least three, but he wanted to win all five fights. So, losing against the first creature, or having a hard time against it, wasn't a good thing at all.
So, he decided to use everything at his disposal against the creature.
With his Demon Eye active, his senses were much better, making the bull attack at a slower rate than usual. Then, he ran toward it again.
"Mathias, attack!" he yelled.
While running, Damian used his water ball to hit the bull. It flew fast toward the bull, hitting its body. The force behind it made the bull stumble, almost causing it to fall to the ground.
Then, Mathias used his lightning skill too, aiming at the bull. It was unexpected, and when the two skills combined, it electrocuted the bull.
The damage from the combined skills was high. It locked the bull in place for a few seconds. Damian had enough time to hit it once again. This time, he used all of his strength to send a combination of attacks on the bull!
Multiple punches and kicks, hitting the demon in different parts, with its head being the most focused point. The combination of blows sent the bull flying, and it hit the ground.
Damian knew that he had to keep hitting to finish the bull. That was the perfect moment. He couldn't lose the chance to finish the demon.
He jumped on it, and then he kept hitting the bull's face, each strike damaging the skull even further. The hits destroyed the bull's head, turning it into a meat pulp.
It died. Everything fell silent after the fight ended. The only sound was the heavy breathing of Damian, who used a lot of his stamina to keep hitting the bull.
Mathias rejoiced, "We did it!"
But then, he realized something. The fight had been quite tiring for both of them, and that was just the first fight.
"I don't think we can win all fights..." he said, "you already look tired."
He was not wrong. Damian was indeed tired, especially due to his excessive skill usage. He used three different skills, and had tired his body too when hitting the bull non-stop.
However, there was something that Damian didn't know.
That bull was actually the strongest demon they would be facing. The main examiner decided to put the strongest demon first and give them a false hope of getting their hunter ID when winning three fights.
But what he actually wanted was for them to lose during the first fight. That was his goal, and he was certain it would work.
After a few minutes, the main examiner talked with them again. He didn't want to accept it, but he had to.
"You two passed the test," the main examiner said, "you will start with the normal hunter rank, but you are now officially hunters."
One examiner left the room and moved to the arena. There, he asked Damian and Mathias to go with him.
"Follow me."
Damian and Mathias didn't believe what they heard.
"WE DID IT! We are now hunters!!!" Mathias yelled.
He jumped out of joy. To him, getting the hunter ID was something he worked hard for, so when he finally got his ID, it felt like a dream to him.
Damian was a little calmer about it, but deep down, he was still happy. Now with his hunter ID, he could go with Lindy to the other continent. That was the best place for him to get stronger and get some answers, too.
They followed the examiner to the room where the cameras were located. There, all the hunters congratulated them.
"You are now officially new hunters," the main examiner said, "good job."
He gave them a handshake. Damian thanked him.
"But I thought we had to fight against all creatures," Damian asked.
"No, that creature was the most powerful one, so you already passed the test," the main examiner said.
Damian and Mathias stayed inside the room with the other hunters. They had chairs to sit on and continue watching the cameras.
It was strange to be there. They could see all the participants fighting against the demons, giving everything they had to pass the test, while the two of them were there, relaxing with a sense of accomplishment.
"We actually did it," Mathias said again, "I didn't think we would get the hunter ID so fast."
"Right?" Damian said, "And what are you going to do after we leave this place? What are your plans?"
"I don't know, honestly," Mathias said, "I want to see my family to give them the good news, and then, look for some adventure. That's what my heart really wants."
Mathias wanted to find something to do, something that would give him a sense of direction. Damian looked at him with a thoughtful expression.
He thought about getting Mathias with them, calling him to go to the other continent with him and Lindy. But was that the right move? Mathias was not yet that powerful, and this new continent was treacherous.
But at the same time, that was the best place for him to grow stronger. It would be a place that would challenge him to get stronger. It was either that or die.
"We can talk about something later," Damian said, "I have some plans, and I think you can come with me."
"Really?" Mathias said, excited, "That sounds awesome!"
He was excited for it.
