Chapter 155: Christmas Shopping

***Author’s Note: Sorry the updates have been bad lately, I’ve got a lot of excuses, training at my new job (I’m a professional swim instructor and coach) has been endless with its videos and curriculum study. The computer at work is awful and hurts my eyes, so it’s been hard to write after work. Thank you Again for your continued support ***

~THIRD PERSON POV~

Over the next few weeks Odette trained tirelessly. Devoting every spare second to learning more about the other species and the history of her world. Training hard with Artemasia, Odette felt like she was finally making progress with her own powers.

Soon Artemasia would start training her to use her divine fyre without losing control and going into a state Artemasia called, full deity mode. This power of hers was far stronger than anyone could have anticipated. And each time she tried manipulating fire magic, somehow she’d push to hard, too far, and instead controlling fire, she’d make divine fyre, and that was kind of magic that drained energy when being used.

Luckily the accidental use helped build a stronger threshold for defense against the magics exhaustion.

Odette could feel the goddess’ presence inside her. It felt warm and familiar, like missing pieces of her were find their way back.

Slowly she felt more connected with her soul. And by default, the goddess. She started wondering when the goddess would reveal herself.

Odette could feel her presence inside her. It felt warm and familiar, like missing pieces of her were find their way back.

Her memories of her past life had slowly been surfacing in her dreams. She’d been working with Artemis and Ursula on organizing them and sorting through them. Looking for answers, solutions to the problem they would soon be facing.

The DarkChild. Her counterpart, the darkness to her light. Her only equal in terms of power. The Final Battle would be between her and Ezelreth, or rather. Her and her mother.

Odette was scared what that meant and no one could offer her any answers.

Her father would be arriving soon. Her nerves have been all over for Odette. Excitement, worry, fear. So many emotions would flood her whenever she thought about her family visiting.

How would they take her being mated to a shifter. 𝕗𝐫𝚎𝗲𝘄𝐞𝕓𝐧𝕠𝘃𝕖𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝚖

Especially one related to the people who had a hand in her mother’s kidnapping and assault.

She thought about gifts to give her family when they arrived.

With all the training she’d been doing with the kids at the school she had earned enough money to do both Christmas shopping and getting family gifts. My family would be arriving right after Christmas. It was only a few days away before Christmas. The city had started decorating. Christmas trees decorated the streets. Christmas among night citizens was different than for mortals, they adopted the mortal name for the holiday, and some of the mortal traditions, but it started as Yule. They changed it in an attempt to better blend with mortals in their world before their existence became known again.

The tradition just stuck.

There was so much that will be happening over the next few weeks, the Gala being the big event.

Today Odette would shop until she dropped, she worked so hard for these funds, and she planned to spend every single bit of it.

She was wearing a beautiful black button up blouse with blood red roses outlining the design. She wore black fleece pants and a large red wool petticoat lined with fleece on the inside. Her hair was braided down her back, with little black and red rose clips placed randomly throughout the braid.

She’d only been to the shopping district a few times since arriving, most people giving her dirty looks, she smelled funny and had strange eyes and hair. They could smell the vampire on her but not from her, so most were weary.

But her training and time with Ambrose, her scent had changed. She smelled more like them.

She walked with Emalea, Raven, and Ursula to the shops. She would have invited Esmerelda, but she had isolated herself and was focused on healing. The wolfsbane had done serious damage to her and her wolf, and she was uncomfortable going out with her weakened state.

Ursula took notice of the looks they were given as they strolled the streets. People looked more acceptingly at her, staring more in awe now. She was giving off a since of familiar warmth that attracted onlookers and other shoppers.

The people themselves didn’t understand why they were gravitating towards the group, more specifically Odette, but they couldn’t stop themselves.

Their beasts inside were being called by her.

At first the other three didn’t notice, but slowly more and more people were turning their heads or walking in their direction, it became obvious.

Odette started to feel nervous and uncomfortable, she couldn’t tell why they were approaching her, and from her past experiences, crowds have never been good for her.

Emalea noticed Odette’s immediate change in demeanor and gripped Odette’s hand, trying to reassure her.

Odette looked over, her eyes wide with angst, but Emalea just smiled sweetly, her eyes saying it’ll be alright.

Odette let out a breath she didn’t even know she was holding and squeezed Emalea’s hand.

Raven now on alert, her every nerve alive and wide awake. Observing her surroundings, she readied herself for any attack that might come their way.

But to their surprise, no one acted, they all just closed in around her, wondering the same thing.

’Why were they here?’

"What are you all looking out, move along." Raven started to try and manage the crowd.

Ursula teamed up with her, ushering the crowd to disperse.

Both being high ranking beta shifters, the crowd was forced back, despite their desperate curiosity.

’Who is she?’ They wondered.

"That was weird." Raven spoke to the group first after the crowd dispersed enough they could continue their shopping.

"Yeah, what was that all about?" Ursula wondered.

The three of them were around her so often they couldn’t feel the pull. Not the way the crowd had.

"I don’t know, but it was a little scary for me." Emalea admitted openly.

Odette walked silently with them. The event replaying in her head as she tried to decipher why she was swamped by the people.

"Odette, what store do you want to start with?" Ursula asked.

However, Odette didn’t hear her, she was so deep in her thinking. It took a few tries to get her attention.

"Hellooooo, Earth to Odette?" Raven started clapping her hands to pull Odette from her thoughts.

"Oh, sorry, I was lost in thought for a moment, what were you saying?" Odette shook off the nervous feeling and tried to focus on the time she was having with her friends.

"What store do you want to start with?" Ursula repeated again.

"Oh, I figured maybe I should start with Ambrose..." Odette began.

"What were you thinking?" Ursula asked.

"I don’t know, really, that’s one of the reasons I wanted you all with me, you guys have known him for so long, what should I get for him?" Odette sighed, she thought it over a hundred times and still came up blank.

"He’ll like anything you give him, I promise. I’ve never seen the alpha king so obsessed with anyone before." Raven reluctantly admitted.

Raven had accepted that Ambrose would never be hers. And that she never stood a chance against Odette. Not just because he loved her or that they were fated mates, but because it’s always been Odette, she’s been the only person he’s ever been obsessed with, whether it’s love or hate, it’s always been Odette.

Her opinion of Odette had also changed. She started to see the side of her, everyone was so drawn too. The side of Odette Raven missed all these years watching her.

Odette’s strength and determination, her kindness and consideration for the people she cared for. Odette’s equal obsession with her alpha king. And her humble attitude, despite all her power.

"He likes books. It’s not something he openly admits or displays. But the library in the palace, all the books were handpicked by him." Ursula offered her little bit of knowledge about his interests.

"Books? I noticed he has quite a few in his room and in his private office. He has a wide variety, what was his favorite genre?" Odette asked Ursula.

"Want to know a secret?" Ursula winked.

"Yes." Odette smirked.

"He likes science fiction, like space aliens. When he was a little boy, he would hide his books in covers of schoolbooks. I bet if you pull some of the books in his private library and check the covers you might find a few Star Wars books in there." Ursula whispered low enough that only the four of them could hear.

Odette busted out laughing, "You mean to tell me, he’s a dweeb?"

She couldn’t contain her laughter.

"Yep." Ursula smiled ear to ear, giving up this little bit of embarrassing childhood information was something usually reserved for parents. But Ursula practically helped raise him after his parents died.

Emalea shouted "Let’s go to the bookstore."
