I Was Not Meant To Exist-Chapter 47: (white) sixth day: morning
Silence enveloped the room, the metallic scent of blood occasionally lingering in the air. White stood with his back to the sealed Bone of Malakar, while the corpses of his comrades lay scattered around him.
The eyes behind White’s mask were focused on what stood before him.
The komodo lowered its body, the claws of its hands touching the ground, its tail swaying.
Its reptilian eyes blinked, and its tongue flicked out several times.
It strengthened its legs and shot toward White.
White responded by grabbing a one-handed shield lying nearby.
The moment his mana-covered hand touched and gripped it, the shield vanished.
Siiing
The komodo tried to slash White with its right claw.
White raised his one-handed shield, gripping it with his left hand.
Kriing
The komodo’s claw struck the invisible shield, making it seem as though its attack had been stopped by the air itself.
White’s hand trembled slightly as he endured the komodo’s attack.
The komodo followed up, its left claw aiming for White’s neck.
White stepped backward several times to avoid the slash.
The komodo did not let him escape, immediately pursuing White with another swipe.
White clicked his tongue, then made a motion as if he were about to throw his vanished one-handed shield.
The komodo’s reptilian eyes twitched, it stopped for a moment and shielded its face.
After a brief pause, the attack never came.
At the exact moment the komodo thought it was safe—
White hurled the shield with all his strength toward the komodo.
’One... two...’
The komodo’s reptilian eyes widened, its body almost got hit by the invisible shield, but it managed to duck.
White exhaled because his attack had failed to hit.
’Three...’
The shield reappeared and crashed into the ground behind the komodo.
The komodo began closing in on White again, the sound of rushing wind approaching him.
White picked up two nunchaku lying nearby.
The moment White’s mana-covered hands touched the two nunchaku, they vanished.
Siiing
White spun the now invisible nunchaku.
He swung his right hand, and the komodo tried to rely on its instincts to predict White’s attack, but it failed.
Its left cheek was struck by the nunchaku White had swung.
Buk
White did not waste that moment, he swung the invisible nunchaku in his right hand upward like an uppercut.
The komodo, still slightly dazed, could not avoid the strike.
Buk
The komodo’s head tilted upward toward the ceiling, and it stumbled back one step.
White continued hitting it all over its body.
Buk
Buk
Buk
The komodo staggered several steps backward, its blurred vision trying to refocus, only to see White approaching while still swinging the invisible nunchaku.
The komodo puffed out its cheeks, gathering something in its mouth.
White stopped in his tracks, his eyes widening.
’Its saliva?...’
The komodo spat out whatever it had gathered in its mouth.
White spun the invisible nunchaku in his right hand like a fan, trying to block the komodo’s attack.
But what came out of its mouth was a spray of blood.
"Pyuh..."
The blood splashed onto the invisible nunchaku, and slowly the blood began to reveal the shape of the weapon.
White clicked his tongue after being tricked by the komodo.
’Damn lizard.’
White threw the nunchaku in his left hand, which was still invisible, while discarding the nunchaku in his right.
The komodo responded by gathering saliva in its mouth and spitting it into the air.
"Pyuh..."
The saliva collided with the invisible nunchaku, melting it until it fell to the ground.
White glanced around quickly, trying to find a suitable weapon.
At the exact same moment his right hand touched the hilt of a rapier, a shadow approached him from the side.
White quickly glanced to the left.
There, the komodo’s shadow could be seen crawling.
Its red eyes were visible, and the shadow transformed into the black komodo, opening its mouth to devour White.
The real komodo spat its melting saliva once again, trying to trap White.
"Pyuh..."
White froze for a brief moment. To his left, the black komodo was preparing to devour him, while in front of him the komodo’s saliva was rushing toward him, followed by the komodo itself.
His thoughts raced in a fraction of a second, evaluating the escape route he would take.
White’s left hand twitched, and he aimed it toward the black komodo’s mouth.
The black komodo immediately snapped down with the strongest bite it could muster.
The sound of White’s bones cracking rang out sharply.
Blood poured from White’s arm, followed by a muffled groan from behind his mask.
White pulled back his left arm, which only made him wince harder in pain, the agony in his left arm spreading through his entire body.
The black komodo followed through, its left side intercepting the dangerous saliva from the real komodo.
The real komodo, seeing how quickly everything happened, did not have time to turn the black komodo back into a shadow.
The sound of flesh sizzling could be heard, and smoke rose from the left side of the black komodo’s body.
But there was no scream. The black komodo still kept biting White’s arm.
White drew his vanished rapier, while the real komodo closed in on the black komodo.
White let out a long breath, trying to stay calm.
He thrust his invisible rapier into the black komodo.
Slash!
The thrust pierced straight through the black komodo.
The real komodo’s reptilian eyes widened, it clearly saw the black komodo’s body being pierced, but could not see what had stabbed and gone through it.
The komodo relied on instinct, raising its left palm to cover its face.
Something that had originally been invisible pierced through its left palm, and after the komodo’s blood splashed onto it, the object slowly became visible.
The tip of the rapier nearly stabbed into the komodo’s face.
White’s heart pounded rapidly, blood still pouring from the bite of the black komodo.
He gritted his teeth and began punching the black komodo’s face repeatedly, the black komodo twitched slightly, loosening its bite a little.
White did not wait any longer, he immediately yanked his arm free, tearing off skin and leaving behind a little flesh in the black komodo’s mouth.
White stumbled back several steps, his body trembling slightly before his left knee touched the ground, and he looked at his left hand, which was still bleeding profusely.
His gaze then shifted to the black komodo and the real komodo standing behind it.
The black komodo turned back into a shadow, and now only the real komodo remained, White’s rapier still piercing its left hand.
The komodo’s tongue flicked out several times.
"Ssst truly impressive ssst Captain White ssst"
The komodo kept talking, and White took advantage of that to bandage his wound.
Cold sweat poured down his entire body, his left hand was almost numb, and even the movement of his fingers was beginning to stiffen.
White exhaled, trying to steady himself.
’This is troublesome.... I can’t afford to relax. That komodo... it’s far stronger than before...’
The komodo continued speaking.
"Ssst you should just surrender, White ssst remove the Bone of Malakar from its seal ssst and I will let you ssst rest in peace ssst"
White chuckled quietly and looked at the komodo.
"Tell me who else is involved in the mission you’re carrying out, and I’ll cut you down gently."
The komodo smiled widely, its tongue flicking out several times.
"Ssst you would be shocked if you knew ssst"
White’s eyes widened behind his mask, and he swallowed.
"There aren’t many things that can shock me, you know?"
The komodo nodded in agreement.
It tensed all of its muscles to the limit, veins bulging out, its muscles swelling much larger than before. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
A wide grin stretched across its face, saliva dripping from its mouth, and smoke rose from the ground wherever the drool landed.
White slowly rose to his feet, opening and closing the palm of his left hand, the pain still there.
"You know, this place is close to the palace, right? Are your people from the palace?"
The komodo did not answer. Instead, it manifested its shadow once again into the black komodo.
White scratched his white hair as he watched the komodo do that.
The komodo charged again, but this time the black komodo led the attack, while the real komodo stayed behind it.
White did not remain still, he also moved forward to meet the charge of the two komodos.
He channeled mana into his left hand and grabbed a javelin spear.
The spear vanished the moment White’s right hand gripped it.
Siiing
White stared at the komodo standing behind the black komodo, and their eyes met.
He made a throwing motion as if he were aiming at the komodo behind.
The komodo’s eyes widened, and its body instinctively reacted to dodge, but nothing ever reached it.
White chuckled when he saw that, and at that exact same moment, he hurled the javelin spear at the black komodo.
’One...’
’Two...’
By the second count, the invisible javelin pierced straight through the black komodo’s head.
White channeled mana into his right leg and kicked the black komodo in the stomach, only the sound of impact was heard, there was no sound of bones breaking.
Behind it, the real komodo kept closing in, and the moment the black komodo was thrown toward it, the real komodo turned it back into a shadow.
Meanwhile, White was already there the instant the black komodo became a shadow again.
This time he held a vanished short sword in his right hand, making a thrusting motion.
The komodo paid it no mind and met him with a slash of its claw.
The claw and the invisible short sword nearly collided.
But White quickly lowered his body.
His thrust no longer aimed at the komodo’s claw, but instead at the right side of its body.
The komodo’s reptilian eyes widened when it saw that.
White stepped forward, changing his grip on the short sword from a thrusting grip into a reverse grip, and he slashed across the komodo’s right side, through its brown-scaled body, red blood spilling out.
They had already passed one another.
White turned around faster, trying to stab the back of the komodo’s knee.
But a gust of air struck him, the komodo’s tail lashed at White.
Fwoosh
White protected his head with his left arm, but the komodo’s tail tore through White’s flesh.
Pain shot through White’s left arm, adding to his injuries, and he gritted his teeth.
The komodo turned around, this time aiming both of its clawed hands at White.
White gritted his teeth, and a clash between claw strikes and the invisible short sword erupted several times.
White was pushed backward as a result, and he tried to change the tide.
He pulled out an iron ball from his smart bracelet, immediately gripping it and channeling a little mana into it.
White channeled mana into his right leg, kicked the komodo in the stomach, and used the force to throw his own body backward.
The komodo, still distracted, did not realize when White threw the invisible iron ball.
White began counting in his mind.
’One...’
’Two...’
The vanished iron ball was now right beside the komodo’s face.
’Three...’
The invisible iron ball slowly reappeared, this time accompanied by a bright glow.
The komodo glanced at the glowing ball beside its head, and even with its instincts, it would not be able to dodge that attack.
The iron ball shone brightly, and a small explosion followed, dozens of needles shot toward the komodo’s face, piercing its thick scaled skin.
The komodo shut its eyes, and a groan escaped it, the needles were coated in poison.
Slowly, smoke began to rise from the komodo’s face, its skin continuously peeling away.
Its scream of pain grew louder and louder, the komodo thrashed around, clutching its face with its hands, even though the skin on its hands was peeling away as well.
White took a breath for a moment, then picked up six daggers, placing one between each gap of his fingers.
White winced, his left hand still throbbed with pain, but he forced himself to maximize the opportunity he had created.
He ran toward the komodo, which was still kneeling and groaning in agony while clawing at its own face.
White prepared to throw the daggers, which had now vanished.
But the atmosphere of the room suddenly changed. A cold gust of wind hit White, even making the skin of his face beneath the mask crawl.
White’s steps halted because of his survival instincts.
He looked at the komodo, which had now calmed down somewhat, it was no longer clawing at its burned face.
Its expression was now blank as it stared at the floor.
The komodo’s shadow grew darker, and slowly that shadow formed a circle around it.
White’s eyes widened, and he unconsciously stepped back.
From that dark circle, black mist slowly began to rise.
White’s heart pounded violently, the air in the room changed into something unnatural.
Behind the komodo, the black mist gradually thickened, and then it slowly formed into a figure standing behind the komodo.
White’s breath caught in his throat at the sight, and without realizing it, he dropped all of his daggers.
A gust of wind swept through him and the room, originating from that figure of black mist.
The black figure began to reveal its shape, its two arms were long and clawed, its face could not be seen, only glowing red eyes and two striking horns on its forehead stood out, while the rest of its body was still a mass of black mist.
The figure had no mouth, but a voice still came from it, a voice that made White tremble in fear.
Cold sweat poured heavily across White’s entire body.
’A demon?...’
The demonic figure tilted its head slightly, its head made of swirling black mist, and looked at the trembling White.
"Kneel, human. Kneel before the great demon."
White’s eyes widened.
In an instant, the air itself pressed down on his body and the entire room.
White’s body trembled, both of his knees slammed against the floor, and even the floor cracked and shattered under the crushing pressure.
The demonic figure lifted its chin, displaying its authority.
"Yes... that is better."
White gritted his teeth, clenching his fists against the floor as it slowly cracked and crumbled, the burden on his shoulders continuously forcing him down to the ground.
White struggled to raise his head and look toward the komodo and the demonic figure.
The demonic figure looked at the komodo’s back, and its voice sounded revolting and spine-chilling at the same time.
"Useless..."
The komodo’s body slowly began to move stiffly, the sound of its bones could be heard, and the burned right side of its face was visible.
The demonic figure glanced behind itself, where the Bone of Malakar remained sealed.
The figure began walking slowly. No sound came from its footsteps, but the stench of death became more and more distinct with every movement it made.
The demonic figure spoke again in its revolting voice.
"I will give you one more chance. Kill that insect."
The komodo’s body responded to the demonic figure’s words.
Its stiff body slowly started to writhe, lowering itself into a crouched position, its claws touching the ground, its tail twitching, but its gaze was empty as it stared at White.
As the demonic figure got closer and closer to the sealed Bone of Malakar, the pressure it exerted gradually began to weaken.
White, who had been struggling, could now breathe a little, but he still could not lift himself from the floor.
He shifted his gaze toward the demonic figure. The figure began extending its black mist-covered hand toward the seal of the Bone of Malakar. The red lightning striking it did not harm it at all, and little by little, it moved closer to the Bone of Malakar.
White forced himself to rise—
But the komodo lunged at him.
Its right claw aimed straight for the face of White’s mask.
White froze stiffly, his thoughts racing.
A whisper slipped from White’s lips.
"Damn it... I really can’t hold on anymore..."
White picked up one of his daggers, and it vanished the moment he touched it.
Siiing.
But the komodo’s claw did not stop, it reached White’s mask, and White was pushed slightly backward by the force of the komodo’s strength.
The komodo tore and ripped off the mask, and behind it, White’s face was revealed.
His pale skin now felt the wind against it, and his white eyes stared at the komodo blankly.
The komodo raised the claw of its left hand to tear White apart.
But White moved first with his vanished dagger, slashing upward. The slash struck the komodo’s face and its left eye, and a spray of blood burst out, yet the komodo’s expression remained blank.
White drove his leg into the komodo’s body, kicking it away from him.
The komodo did not seem hindered at all, it charged White even while fresh blood continued to stream from its left eye.
White threw the invisible dagger, and the komodo paid it no mind, continuing its charge.
The dagger lodged itself into the komodo’s chest.
White let out a quiet breath and picked up a short sword lying on the ground.
The short sword vanished.
Siiing.
White glanced slightly toward the seal of the Bone of Malakar, the demonic figure was almost there.
White tightened his grip on the short sword.
Meanwhile, the komodo lashed out wildly with both claws, trying to tear White apart.
For every savage claw strike White received, he returned one equally savage slash to the komodo’s body.
Blood continued to spray from both of them. The komodo’s body became covered in slash wounds, while claw marks decorated White’s body.
White gritted his teeth and raised his left hand, which was already close to losing all strength.
He clenched it and punched the dagger that had previously only been lodged in the komodo’s chest.
His punch made the komodo’s body tremble slightly, and a burst of blood came from its mouth, while White’s left hand shook violently from pain.
White tried to slash the komodo again with the invisible short sword in his right hand.
But suddenly, his slash stopped in midair.
White felt warmth spreading from his stomach, and he lowered his head slightly to see what it was. His white eyes trembled.
There, his stomach had been pierced by the komodo’s claws.
A spray of blood burst from White’s mouth, his body shook violently, and the komodo slightly twisted the hand that was still partly lodged in White’s stomach.
White’s breathing caught, his white eyes trembled, and his legs slowly began losing their strength.
His knees slowly touched the cracked floor, while the komodo merely stared at him blankly, fresh blood still running all over its own body.
Slowly, White collapsed face-first near the komodo’s feet, blood beginning to pool around his stomach where it pressed against the cracked floor.
The komodo turned around, no longer caring about White.
White tried to move his body, but it no longer responded to him. He desperately forced himself to move his head, his right cheek pressed against the cold floor while his white eyes watched the komodo walking away toward the demonic figure.
White’s breathing grew heavier.
’Damn... my instincts really are never wrong...’
One of White’s eyes slowly began to close, and he furrowed his brow, trying to stay conscious.
His stomach was beginning to feel cold.
’....I told you, Black... I needed help... damn it...’
White looked at the komodo, which slowly dropped to one knee, the dagger still embedded in its chest, the blood in its left eye gradually drying, and the burned right side of its face exposing a bit of raw flesh.
White shifted his gaze toward the demonic figure. The moment one finger formed from black mist touched the purple crystal of the Bone of Malakar, the pillar holding the Bone of Malakar glowed purple, and a powerful gust of wind swept through the entire room, White’s white hair fluttering.
After a few moments, the demonic figure’s hand finally fully grasped the Bone of Malakar and then pulled it out.
Its size, almost equal to a human head, did not burden the hand made of black mist at all, but its red eyes trembled.
Now the room had turned into an oppressive, dreadful silence.
White swallowed hard at the sight, then glanced slightly left and right, looking for any weapon he could still use.
Slowly, the demonic figure approached the kneeling komodo.
It looked down at the komodo from above, its red eyes shifting between the komodo and the Bone of Malakar.
Then it threw the Bone of Malakar to the ground, where it rolled until it stopped near the komodo.
The horrifying voice of the demonic figure rang out.
"Take it... and deliver it to him... I will forgive you after that..."
The komodo, still expressionless, began to touch the Bone of Malakar.
The touch made its body tremble, the purple crystal causing the komodo’s bones to shake.
The demonic figure suddenly sensed a new presence.
It glanced toward the corridor, the path leading in and out.
A click of the tongue came from it.
"Ck, there is still one more insect...."
White, who faintly heard what the demonic figure had said, struggled to glance to the right.
There stood Julian in his blood-soaked white pajamas, his wound in the stomach just like White’s.
His gaze was locked onto the demonic figure, his body trembling.
White’s brows twitched, and he gritted his teeth.
’That idiot... why did he come here, damn it?’
Julian’s hands trembled as he looked at and felt something he had never seen before.
The demonic figure’s red eyes stared directly at him, while the komodo slowly rose to its feet, holding the Bone of Malakar in its left hand.
Cold sweat dripped from Julian’s forehead.
The komodo’s body trembled slightly, and that caused the demonic figure to slowly begin fading away.
The demonic figure’s final voice could be heard.
"You weak lizard...."
The pressure in the room gradually diminished as the demonic figure slowly vanished.
Its final words were directed at the komodo, only the komodo could hear them.
When the figure disappeared completely, the komodo’s once-empty eyes were once again filled with life.
But pain immediately surged throughout its entire body, and its scream echoed across the whole room.
Its grip on the Bone of Malakar almost slipped.
Julian’s eyes widened as he swallowed hard, seeing the komodo wracked with pain.
Anger once again rose within Julian’s blue eyes, his breathing grew heavy, and his heart beat rapidly.
He drew his sword, gripping it in his left hand, and slowly began channeling an extraordinary amount of mana into it.
Sparks of fire slowly began to appear, the gusting wind made them wilder, and flashes of lightning added even more destructive power.
The power Julian gathered continued to grow greater and greater.
The komodo slowly regained its senses from the pain, and it looked toward Julian, who was preparing himself.
Julian took a deep breath, remembering every moment he had lived through.
All the pain and loss. Everything the komodo had taken from him.
He glared at the komodo with overflowing rage, tears pooling in his blue eyes.
His scream unconsciously echoed throughout the room.
He dragged his sword along the floor, splitting the floor open, leaving behind a clear trail of fire and lightning, while the roaring wind made Julian’s steps lighter.
White gritted his teeth as he watched Julian charge at the komodo, forcing his own body to rise.
"That idiot!...."
Julian did not hear what White said. He raised the sword that had split the floor, holding it in a stance like a thrust.
He stared at the komodo, which merely stood there calmly.
Julian’s vision narrowed, his focus solely on the komodo.
He used wind to help him thrust faster.
He aimed the flaming sword thrust at the komodo’s face.
That attack was reflected in the komodo’s right eye.
The komodo dodged simply, lowering itself to the left.
Julian’s eyes widened as the komodo avoided the attack so easily.
Julian’s flaming sword thrust unleashed a tornado of fire, wind, and lightning that crashed into the wall.
A thunderous roar rang out, and the wall struck by the attack slowly collapsed.
Meanwhile, the komodo aimed its claws at the right side of Julian’s stomach. Its claws left a fresh wound there.
Slash!
Julian stopped his attack, which had hit nothing at all.
Pain spread through his stomach as blood poured from the komodo’s claw mark.
The komodo seized Julian’s neck with its right hand, while its left hand still held the Bone of Malakar.
It lifted Julian into the air, making Julian writhe as his feet no longer touched the ground.
His sword fell, and he could only struggle and claw at the komodo’s hand choking him.
Meanwhile, Julian’s injured right hand could only hang limply.
The komodo held Julian up in front of its face.
The komodo’s tongue flicked out several times.
"Ssst I already told you ssst wait quietly ssst"
The komodo began opening its mouth wide, trying to devour Julian’s head.
Julian saw it with his own eyes, the inside of the komodo’s mouth, rows of sharp teeth lined up within it, and its foul stench was suffocating.
Julian thrashed and struck at the komodo’s arm repeatedly.
Just as it got closer, the komodo’s movement suddenly stopped. It turned its head to the right by instinct.
It sensed a presence from nothingness.
As it drew closer, a dagger slowly began to appear.
The komodo clicked its tongue, threw Julian aside, and dodged the dagger.
It looked toward where the dagger had come from.
There was White, crawling with pale skin and white eyes.
The blood pouring from his stomach had left a trail behind him.
The komodo glanced at the pitiful White for a moment.
Then it remembered what the demonic figure had said earlier and decided to leave the two of them behind.
The komodo ran out of that place.
Leaving behind White lying on the ground and Julian, who could only stare blankly, his neck red and bruised.
The komodo ran quickly, but its body, covered in wounds, and its left eye, which could no longer see, forced it to lower its speed.
Its breathing came in ragged gasps as it passed through corridor after corridor with the Bone of Malakar in its left hand.
One dagger was still embedded in its chest.
The komodo walked past the corpses decorating the hallways, flies had already begun swarming them, and their stench had spread throughout the entire mansion.
The komodo tried to walk faster, but its vision was beginning to blur.
It glanced slightly at the Bone of Malakar, that small section of tailbone encased in a purple crystal the size of a human head.
The komodo let out a breath, its tongue flicking out several times.
It remembered the beginning of all this chaos.
The beginning of the mission given to it by the seven leaders of the dark side, who had tasked it with helping someone who had newly fallen into darkness.
The komodo’s breathing became heavier and heavier.
The voice of one of the dark side’s leaders rang in its mind, almost as if it were real.
A voice that had repeatedly emphasized the importance of successfully obtaining it.
The komodo placed a hand on the wall to help itself walk, its tongue flicking out several times.
"Ssst this stone artifact can bring down the mystical barrier of the Silent Mountains? Ssst..."
"....are they joking? Ssst"
Slowly, the komodo saw light at the end of the corridor. There was the grand hall, where the mansion’s main entrance stood.
It quickened its pace, wanting to leave the mansion as quickly as possible.
"Ssst so it’s already morning, huh? Ssst"
Its steps finally carried it into the hall at the end of the corridor, where sunlight streamed through the large glass windows there.
The komodo raised its right hand slightly to shield its face.
Once it had adjusted, it slowly lowered its hand again.
At the same time, something appeared before it, someone standing with their back to the bright morning sun, the light pouring in through the two great glass windows in the hall.
The komodo’s right eye widened, and its mouth parted slightly.
There stood the figure of a woman, her black hair falling straight down, a smile etched on her face in such a way that the color of her eyes could not be seen.
The komodo’s blood slowly began to boil.
The komodo saw antennae swaying above the woman’s head.
The komodo’s voice sounded in the silence of the hall.
"Ssst Salma?"
After speaking the woman’s name, her figure slowly changed.
Now the body was taller, with broader shoulders, the long black hair disappearing, though the antennae remained.
That figure transformed into a bald man, his eyes fixed on the komodo with deep hostility.
Beside the antennaed man, three more figures slowly appeared, one with pink hair, one with white hair, and one with black hair and golden eyes shining just as brightly as the morning sun.
The antennaed man drew his rapier and kissed its blade.
A heavy voice came from him, a voice that made the komodo freeze stiffly.
"You no longer deserve to say her name...."
The antennaed man pointed the tip of his rapier at the komodo, and slowly his body lifted into the air as transparent wings emerged from his back, those wings shimmering with rainbow-colored light.
The heavy voice of the antennaed man rang out again.
"....today is the day to end our old grudge, Komodo."
