Chapter 43: CP:43 I Hope You Succed

Alex scrolled through the shop, looking for something impressive but not too expensive. His SP was at 513 now—more than half of what he needed, but he couldn’t waste it on frivolous demonstrations.

Then he saw it: Everlight Stone - 25 SP. A small stone that produces constant light without heat or fuel. Lasts indefinitely.

Perfect.

"Okay, watch this," Alex said. He confirmed the purchase, and immediately a smooth white stone materialized in his palm, already glowing with soft, steady light.

[Host. You just spent resources on a demo. This better be worth it.]

Ash’s eyes went wide. His ears shot forward. He actually stepped back, staring at the glowing stone like it might explode.

"You just... created that. Out of nothing."

"Out of spirit energy," Alex corrected, holding it out for Ash to examine. "This is an Everlight Stone. It’ll glow forever without needing fuel or magic to sustain it. No heat, no smoke. Just light."

Ash reached out hesitantly, touching the stone with one careful claw. When it didn’t burn or shock him, he took it fully, turning it over in his paws with wonder.

"This is... incredible. We could light the entire pack lands with something like this. No more maintaining fires through the night. No more smoke inhalation for the young ones."

His golden-brown eyes snapped back to Alex. "Can you make more?"

"If I had enough points, yes. But each one costs resources." Alex could already see the wheels turning in Ash’s head. "This was a demonstration."

" To prove the system is real and I can actually access the magic I’ve been talking about."

"Does Lucas know you can do this?"

"Not yet. I was planning to show him later today or tomorrow." Alex took the stone back, tucking it into his pocket with Naga’s scale and Leo’s charm. "But you can tell him if you want. Might help build credibility."

Ash was quiet for a long moment, clearly processing what he’d just witnessed.

"I believe you," he said finally. "About the Essence. If you can create something like this from nothing, then you can probably create the cure you promised." His expression shifted to something more cautious.

"But Lucas will want more proof. Multiple demonstrations. Maybe even a test run of something smaller before he agrees to trade the Silver Fang."

"I know. That’s what this week is for." Alex started walking again, Ash falling into step beside him. "I need to earn enough points to actually purchase the Essence, and I need to convince Lucas—and the pack—that I’m not lying or trying to cheat you."

"The ancestors already said your heart is true."

"Truth and capability are different things,"

Alex pointed out. "I might genuinely believe I can deliver. That doesn’t mean I actually can."

"Can you?" Ash asked bluntly. "Actually deliver?"

Alex thought about the system’s calculations. About the quests he was completing, the SP slowly accumulating, the progress bar ticking toward that 800 SP goal.

"Yes," he said firmly. "If I have the full seven days, if I can keep earning points at this rate, and if Lucas honors the deal when I succeed—then yes. I can give you the Essence of Renewal and save your pack."

Ash studied him for a long moment.

Then he nodded, something like hope flickering in his eyes.

"Then I hope you succeed. For all our sakes."

They continued the walk, Ash pointing out more landmarks and sharing stories about pack history. Alex listened, asked questions, and slowly began to understand the weight of what was at stake here.

This wasn’t just about a sacred stone or a quest objective.

This was about three thousand years of history, culture, and community slowly dying because biology had turned against them.

And somehow, impossibly, Alex—a nineteen-year-old college student from another world who’d been accidentally dumped here five weeks ago—had become their best hope for survival.

When they returned to the guest lodge, Copper was waiting with lunch—more food than Alex could possibly eat, but he made a valiant effort anyway.

The babies were hungry, and feeding them meant feeding himself to excess.

[ Your evening visit with mates in 4 hours. You’re doing amazing!]

Alex spent the afternoon resting, applying Moss’s salve to his increasingly tight abdomen, and trying not to think too hard about twelve to fifteen hours of labor.

He failed at that last part spectacularly.

But the gifts from his mates—Naga’s scale cool in one hand, Leo’s charm warm in the other—helped ground him when the anxiety threatened to spiral.

Six more days.

He could do this.

They could all do this.

The afternoon sun slanted through the crystal window, painting the lodge in gold and amber light.

And somewhere in the heart-lodge, Lucas received a report from Ash about Alex being possible to create magical tools out of the blue. Something not even most powerful Saintessess could do.

And The Wolf listened.

Considered.

And began to hope—cautiously, carefully—that maybe the spirits had finally sent them salvation.
