Chapter 47: CP:47 Calling For Their Fathers When Their Mother Needed Us

"You’re right," Lucas said quietly, and the admission seemed to shock all three of them. "I should have waited. Should have had Storm bring you immediately.

" But I—" His voice cracked. "—I heard him crying and I ran. I didn’t think. I just ran."

"And when you got here?" Leo demanded, still positioned defensively between Lucas and Alex.

"When you saw him like that, smelled him like that—what were you thinking THEN?"

Lucas met the lion’s burning gaze without flinching.

"That I wanted him. That every instinct I possess was screaming at me to claim him right there on the floor. That if he’d asked one more time, in that voice, I might have—"

He stopped. Swallowed.

"I might have done something unforgivable."

The raw honesty hit like a physical blow.

"But you didn’t," Alex whispered, his voice small and broken. "You held back. Even when I was—when I was begging—you didn’t—"

"Because you weren’t asking me," Lucas said softly.

"You were not in your right mind. You were asking from desperation. From burning anguish. Not because you truly wanted it.

" You were asking the nearest male because your body needed relief and I happened to be there." 𝘧𝓇ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝘣𝓃ℴ𝓋𝑒𝑙.𝑐𝘰𝑚

His pale eyes found Alex’s across the room.

"That’s not consent. That’s just need. And I won’t—I can’t—be the kind of beast who takes advantage of that. As a pack Lord I can’t be the one breaking rules."

Silence crashed over the lodge like a wave.

Naga’s coils were still wrapped protectively around Alex, but they’d loosened slightly. Leo remained on guard, but his snarl had quieted to a low, warning rumble.

"Get out," Naga said finally. "Now. Before I change my mind about killing you."

Lucas nodded once—sharp, accepting.

He moved toward the destroyed doorway, stepping carefully around Leo’s bristling form.

But he paused at the threshold, looking back one last time.

"For what it’s worth," he said quietly, "I’m sorry. I never should have put any of you in that position. Guest rights include protection from the host’s own weakness. I failed that. I failed you."

Then he was gone, his footsteps fading into the pack lands.

The moment he left, Alex collapsed fully into Naga’s coils, his body still wracked with heat tremors but the desperate edge finally starting to fade now that his actual mates were present.

"I’m sorry," he sobbed. "I’m so sorry—I didn’t mean—I wasn’t—"

"Shh," Naga murmured, pressing cool scales against Alex’s fevered skin. "Don’t apologize. You didn’t do anything wrong. Your body went into heat crisis. That’s not your fault."

Leo shifted back to humanoid form, immediately moving to Alex’s other side and pressing warm fur against his back—sandwiching him between cool and warm, familiar and safe.

"We’re here now," the lion said softly. "We’ve got you. You’re safe."

"The babies—" Alex gasped. "They were going crazy, trying to—they needed—"

"They needed their fathers," Naga finished, his hands already moving to Alex’s stomach where six small forms were still agitated but calming. "They could sense the heat, sense your distress. They were trying to call for us."

"Smart hatchlings," Leo murmured, his own hands joining Naga’s. "Calling for their fathers when their mother needed us."

Alex blushed at the mention of ’mother’.

It turns out it is embarrassing for a nineteen year old young boy to be called a mother.

The combined touch—cool scales and warm fur, two familiar scents elevating the lingering traces of Lucas’s presence—slowly began to ease the heat’s desperate edge.

Alex’s breathing steadily evened out. The painful cramping faded to a sunken ache low in his belly. The slick production slowed.

But his body was still feverish, still needy, still demanding the completion the heat cycle required.

"I need—" Alex started, but couldn’t finish. Shame and desperation warred in his chest.

"We know," Naga said gently. "And we’re here. We’ll take care of you. But first—" His emerald eyes found Leo’s over Alex’s head.

"We need to get him somewhere more private. Somewhere the entire pack won’t be able to smell him."

"The bridge," Leo said immediately. "It’s neutral ground. We can build a temporary nest there, keep him comfortable while the heat runs its course."

"Storm won’t allow it," Naga said darkly.

"Pack law—"

"Pack law can go to hell." The new voice came from the destroyed doorway.

They all turned to find Moss standing there, her ancient eyes taking in the scene with knowing understanding.

"The male is in heat crisis, separated from his bonded mates during a high-risk pregnancy," she said firmly. "Guest rights extend to medical necessity. And this—" She gestured at Alex’s trembling form. "—is medical necessity. Storm!" she called over her shoulder.

The gray wolf appeared, looking deeply uncomfortable.

"Escort them to the bridge," Moss ordered.

"Clear the path. Make sure no one interferes. The male needs his mates, and I’ll be damned if pack politics kills six hatchlings because we were too rigid to bend."

Storm’s ears flattened, but he nodded. "Yes, Healer Moss."

"Can you walk?" Naga asked Alex gently.

"I—I don’t think so. I can’t feel my legs."

Together, all three of them left for the bridge, Naga hugging him near his chest like he used to. And Leo running in his beast form and keeping the pace with Naga and Alex.

They moved through the pack lands as quickly as Alex’s condition allowed. Wolves scattered at their approach—some curious, most carefully looking away from the obvious scent of heat, all of them wisely choosing not to interfere with the Healer’s direct orders.

The bridge appeared through the trees like salvation.

Naga and Leo got Alex across it immediately, settling him on the far side where pack territory ended and neutral ground began.

"We need materials for a nest," Leo said urgently.

"Furs, something to block wind—"

"Already handled." Moss appeared with two younger wolves carrying armloads of supplies. "Furs from the guest lodge, wind barriers, water, food for after.

" You’ll have privacy. No one will disturb you."

She met Naga’s eyes directly. "Take care of him. And when the heat passes, we’ll discuss what happens next."

Then she left, herding the curious wolves away and leaving the three of them alone.

Finally.

Blessedly alone.
