I Was The Only Omega In The Beast World-Chapter 50: CP: It Counts For Him Not Being Dead
The morning sun found three bodies tangled together in a makeshift nest on the bridge, exhaustion finally overriding every other need.
Alex lay in the center, sandwiched between cool scales and warm fur, his body finally—finally—settled after the heat had run its brutal course through the night. The fever had broken around dawn, leaving him wrung out and trembling but blessedly clear-headed.
The babies were calm. Suspiciously calm, actually, like they’d gotten exactly what they’d been demanding and were now content to sleep off the exertion.

[ That was... intense. You okay, Host?

System emerged out of its portal hole.
"Define okay," Alex whispered, too tired to even think properly.
He felt Naga stir behind him, coils tightening reflexively before the serpent’s upper body shifted, lifting slightly to check on him.
"Alex?" Naga’s voice was rough, exhausted.
"How do you feel?"
"Like I got hit by a truck. Then the truck backed up and hit me again. Then it exploded." Alex managed a weak smile. "But better. Clear-headed. The heat’s gone."
Naga clearly didn’t understand what Alex was saying but he didn’t ask. He’s used to Alex talking in riddles.
On the other hand, Leo made a questioning sound from Alex’s other side, not quite awake but aware enough to track the conversation. His paw flexed against Alex’s stomach, checking on the six small forms within.
"They’re fine," Alex assured him. "Actually, they’re suspiciously quiet. I think they wore themselves out."
"They weren’t the only ones," Naga muttered, pressing a gentle kiss to Alex’s shoulder. "You scared us. When Storm came running, saying you were in heat crisis—" His voice cracked. "I’ve never moved so fast in my life."
"I’m sorry," Alex said quietly. "I didn’t know it was coming. The system said I have irregular cycles but I thought I’d have some warning—"
"Not your fault." Leo was fully awake now, golden eyes serious as they met Alex’s. "But we’re not leaving you alone in that pack again. Not after what almost happened."
"Lucas didn’t—"
"Lucas was seconds away from claiming you," Naga interrupted, his voice hard. "We could smell it the moment we entered. His scent all over you, your scent calling to him, both of you right on the edge of—" He stopped, jaw clenched.
"If we’d been even a minute later..."
The unspoken conclusion hung heavy in the morning air.
"But you weren’t," Alex said softly. "You got there in time. And Lucas... he held back. Even when I was begging him, he held back. That has to count for something."
"It counts for him not being dead," Leo said bluntly.
"That’s all it counts for."
They lay in silence for a few moments, each processing the previous night’s near-disaster in their own way.
Then Naga spoke, his voice carrying the weight of a decision already made.
"We’re staying with you. For the rest of the week. No more separations. No more visits. We’re not leaving you alone in wolf territory again."
"Storm won’t allow it," Alex pointed out. "Lucas’s terms were clear—"
"Lucas’s terms almost got you claimed by him last night," Naga interrupted. "Those terms are void. We’re renegotiating."
"Agreed," Leo said firmly. "The separation clearly isn’t safe for you or the babies. Any reasonable alpha would see that and adjust the terms accordingly."
"And if Lucas isn’t reasonable?" Alex asked.
Both mates’ expressions went dark and dangerous.
"Then we take you and leave," Naga said simply.
"No stone is worth risking you like this again. We’ll find another way to get the Silver Fang, or we’ll collect the other five stones first and come back when you’re safely delivered and recovered."
Alex felt warmth bloom in his chest despite his exhaustion. They would give up the quest. Would abandon the careful plans and negotiations. Would risk everything—all for him.
"Let me talk to Lucas first," he said. "Before we make any drastic decisions. He was... he was genuinely remorseful last night. Admitted he failed his responsibilities as host. Maybe—maybe he’ll agree to modify the terms."
"And if he doesn’t?" Leo pressed.
"Then we leave," Alex agreed. "I’m not staying here without you two. Not after last night."
[System: Quest Update - "Diplomatic Disaster (Hopefully Not)" - MODIFIED
New Objective: Renegotiate terms with Lucas post-heat-crisis]
[Options:
A) Convince Lucas to allow mates to stay for remainder of week
B) Complete enough demonstrations to earn remaining SP and make trade early
C) Abandon current terms and leave wolf territory
Probability Lucas agrees to mate presence: 73% (guilt is a powerful motivator)
Probability this causes pack political issues: 91% (definitely will ruffle some fur)
Current SP: 643
Remaining needed: 157 SP]
[Recommendation: Try talking first. Lucas seems genuinely conflicted rather than malicious. He might surprise you.]
Footsteps approached from the wolf territory side of the bridge.
All three of them tensed, but it was only Moss, carrying a basket that smelled like food and medicine.
"Good morning," she said calmly, as though finding a pregnant male and his two protective mates tangled together on a bridge was completely normal. "I brought breakfast and healing tea. How are you feeling, young one?"
"Exhausted but okay," Alex admitted. "The heat passed. No injuries. The babies are fine."
"Good. That’s good." Moss set the basket down within reach, then settled herself at a respectful distance—close enough to talk, far enough not to trigger protective instincts.
"I need to examine you properly. Make sure the heat didn’t cause any complications with the pregnancy. And we need to discuss what happens next."
"We’re not leaving him alone again," Naga said immediately, coils tightening protectively. "The terms need to change."
"I agree," Moss said, surprising all of them.
"Last night was a crisis that could have ended very badly. Lucas knows this. The entire pack knows this. Continuing the current arrangement would be foolish and dangerous."
She pulled out various herbs and a clay jar from her basket, her movements practiced and efficient.
"Lucas sent me to check on you and to extend an invitation to discuss new terms. "
"He’s willing to meet here, on the bridge, neutral ground. He won’t enter your nest uninvited and he’s leaving his seconds behind. Just him, talking to the three of you."
"Why should we trust him?" Leo asked darkly. "After last night?"
"Because last night scared him as much as it scared you," Moss said bluntly. "I’ve known Lucas since he was a pup. I’ve seen him face down bears, rival packs, and winters that killed stronger wolves."
" I’ve never seen him look as shaken as he did when he returned to the heart-lodge last night." Her ancient eyes held theirs steadily.
"He came within a breath of violating everything he stands for. That terrified him. He won’t make that mistake again."
She began unpacking the healing supplies, laying them out methodically. "Now, I need to examine you. Your mates can stay—in fact, I’d prefer they do. The examination will be thorough and possibly uncomfortable, and their presence will keep you calm."
Alex looked at Naga and Leo. Both nodded.
"Okay," he said. "Do what you need to do."
