Chapter 176: Chapter 176

The group stood before the Town Hall’s gate, wide open and seemingly inviting them in. They exchanged wary glances, before stepping into the dimly lit interior.

As they made their way in, a figure suddenly appeared atop a broken-down bus blocking the road ahead. He was intimidating—a well-built man with an air of confidence, his muscular form highlighted by the long steel pipe resting casually on his shoulder. His tall stature and rough, bandit-like appearance confirmed their suspicions; this was Norton, one of Levi’s subordinates that Remillia had warned them about.

He cleared his throat. "This place is off-limits to kids," He announced, his voice dripping with disdain as he surveyed the group. His expression turned into a smirk, clearly enjoying the fear he could wield over them.

"Looks like we’ve just found the welcoming committee," Edge muttered under his breath, tension crackling in the air.

Moments later, several other men appeared, armed and ready for battle.

Cypher took a deep breath, staying perfectly calm despite the escalating situation. "You’re Morton?"

"Haha, a kid shouldn’t talk to adults like that," Morton shot back, his condescending tone quickly growing tiresome.

Edge stepped forward, clearly losing his patience and pointed his spear directly at Morton. "If you’re Morton, then minions like you can screw off. Where’s your boss?"

Morton grinned, clearly unfazed. "Our master isn’t here."

Edge’s lips curled into a smirk at the response. He channeled his aura into his spear, the green hue shifting to a deep black as it ignited with black mana.

Morton’s eyes widened in shock. "W-What? What’s up with the color of your mana?"

"I told you to bring Levi here!" Edge’s voice was fierce as he spun his spear a hundred and eighty degrees, executing his specialized technique—Black Dragon Crescent Blade.

With a powerful sweep, Edge unleashed a surge of black mana that shot forth in an arc, an explosive force that obliterated the bus under Morton’s feet and continued forward, severing through one of the watchtowers, sending debris raining down.

"Damn~ That’s amazing," Morton chuckled as he leaped down from the bus, clearly impressed despite the destruction. "But you’re still just children. You think you can take us on? I already told you; our master isn’t here."

"Then where is—" Christian began, but an ominous thought flashed in his mind, causing him to grip his sword tighter. "Y-You bastards..."

"Haha! I thought kids were supposed to be more knowledgeable! But what were you thinking, leaving the mirror shards behind with your injured friend?" Morton’s laughter rang out, cruel and mocking, echoing into the night air.

It wasn’t that they didn’t expect it at all. They hadn’t anticipated that Levi would actually go after him personally.

Panic surged as the five of them quickly spun around, eyes wide. But it was too late—all of the men had leaped down and surrounded them on all sides, forming a tight perimeter.

Their expressions hardened. This was not the plan they had hoped for.

"Heh," Morton taunted, reveling in their momentary fear. However, one figure in their midst remained eerily calm.

Cypher stood there, a smile slowly creeping on his face as he burst into laughter. "Hahaha!"

Edge, Angela, Whitney, and Christian exchanged confused glances, some taken aback by Cypher’s seemingly maniacal response. Angela felt a flicker of fear, questioning if she was truly looking at the real Cypher.

"Is your friend here originally crazy?" Morton mocked, unease creeping into his voice as he felt anxious hearing Cypher’s laughter.

"No, it’s just that..." Cypher said, his voice steady, eyes gleaming with clarity. "Did your boss go there alone?"

"...." There was a tense silence. Morton didn’t respond, but his lack of an answer spoke louder than words.

"Then we have nothing to worry about," Cypher said, turning back to his friends. His smile widened, radiating an infectious confidence. "Remi is stronger than me."

Morton, sensing their shift, sneered. "You really think you can fight all of us? Kids like you don’t stand a chance."

Edge stepped forward, determination flashing in his eyes. "You’re just underestimating us. We’ve faced worse than you and your boss. The only thing you’ll be doing tonight is retreating back to Levi with your tail between your legs."

Abandoned Building Base

Plod! Plod! Plod!

The rhythmic sound of footsteps broke the eerie silence of the abandoned building where I sat, waiting patiently. I slowly raised my head, turning towards the source of the noise.

A figure emerged at the edge of the forest, stepping into view under the moonlight. His red eyes flickered with malice beneath the shadow of his black robe.

I couldn’t help but smile. Just as I had expected, he came here alone. Leaving his men to fend off the attackers while he aimed to confront me himself.

"...Human, pitiful human," he began, his voice dripping with disdain. "This is why I gave up being a human. I didn’t want to be tied down to useless emotions like you...."

"Shut it," I interrupted, brushing aside his empty rhetoric as I studied him, my amusement growing. "You’re alone?"

"I’m not alone. I have my army with—" he started to respond defiantly.

"You’re alone," I cut him off, the conviction in my voice leaving no room for his doubt.

His frustration bubbled to the surface as he prepared his ability.

He consumed crystallized mana to amplify his magic power, but in reality, he was still clueless about how to wield this newfound energy effectively. Levi was, at his core, just a low-ranking rogue with delusions of grandeur.

In the first place, he was only a low rank Rogue.

There was only one thing he knew how to do.

As expected, red smoke began to seep from his body. Levi unleashed his gift, summoning a giant pathway where a horde of deformed monsters slowly appeared. They crawled and lumbered forth, monsters of every shape and size. Some looked like snakes, spiders, wolves, others like orcs and goblins, and even some that resembled grotesque pigs.

But the most frightening aspect was their sheer number—at least five thousand of them surged forth, a relentless tide.

However, their numbers were overwhelming. There were at least five thousand of them.

I stood there, facing what appeared to be an insurmountable army, and I couldn’t help but chuckle.

This was Levi’s Gift—Veil of the Abyss.

An ability harnessed from a tremendous aura to summon monsters from the Abyss itself. I could sense their strength—they ranged from standard to advanced grade levels of 5 to 1.

Cypher and Edge might have struggled against this crowd; fighting off five thousand monsters would sap their energy quickly. But I was different. Thanks to the system, I’ve gathered a lot of abilities.

I was about to stand up and confront Levi when Rex tugged at my sleeve. The look in his eyes was wild with fear, his breath coming in labored gasps as though each inhale could shatter him. "Just... leave... and run... away... witch."

His voice was hoarse, laced with concern and guilt. I felt a pang in my heart at the sight of his distress.

With a cheerful smile, I reassured him. "Idiot. Don’t worry about me. Just sleep. It’ll all be over by the time you wake up."

Rex seemed to fall into a daze, his eyelids growing heavy as I gently closed his eyes. Then, unclasping my necklace, Arcanum, I watched as it transformed into the Fairbairn-Sykes fighting knife—its metallic gleam reflecting the moonlight.

"Considering you summoned at least five thousand monsters just to defeat me..." I laughed, my voice ringing out into the night, a challenge echoing back at Levi. "I’m guessing you’re scared of me, hahaha!"

With that, I made my first move, activating my abilities. "Serenade of Daggers," I thought, feeling my senses heighten as I prepared to unleash a barrage of knives. Each dagger I threw would multiply tenfold for the next five minutes, enhancing my offensive capabilities.

I also activated "Dagger Retrieval," picturing the blades flying back to me after striking my targets. I aimed at the approaching monsters, needing to lessen their numbers as much as possible to make way for my next move.

My daggers shot out like silver streaks in the darkness, piercing through the hordes of grotesque creatures. As I hit my targets, the blades returned to me effortlessly, ready for another throw.

Then I activated "Electrical Surge." My body crackled with energy as I absorbed any electrical damage and turned it into a boost of speed and agility. I followed this with "Shock," unleashing an electrical discharge that stunned the wretched beings around me, causing them to convulse and fall.

With every dagger thrown, I could feel my energy surging as monsters fell under my assault, their forms writhing in agony before collapsing to the ground.

As the five minutes passed, I felt the rush of my abilities begin to wane. My breaths came in ragged gasps as monsters encircled me, their eyes glowing with primal hunger.

"Hah... Hah... Hah..." I panted, blood racing in my veins, the thrill of battle surging through me despite the fatigue creeping in.

Suddenly, Levi’s taunting laughter rang out, piercing through the night. "Not so tough now, are you? As expected of a human; you easily tire out and die uselessly."
