Chapter 246: Chapter 246

Excerpt from the book "Demonic Hearts":

...After visiting the territories of Beelzebub, also known as Beelzebub of Gluttony, I headed toward the territory where the nearest True Demon lived.

Where did I go? I went to the territory of Belphegor of Sloth.

To be honest, I hadn’t heard much about that true demon.

Especially when I asked Lord Beelzebub about Lord Belphegor.

He didn’t give me a clear answer.

"The Sleeper"

That was all Beelzebub said; he didn’t sound either approving or disapproving when he spoke of Lord Belphegor—rather, it was as if he were addressing an equal.

I won’t deny that my curiosity piqued a little.

Although the journey was long, I made my way step by step, first venturing into a desert...

After a rather long trek, I arrived at a vast plain with three gray mountains equidistant from a city that stood right in the middle of the plain.

At first glance, it was a fairly peaceful setting.

After visiting Beelzebub’s territories, which looked more like a region made up of scattered villages devoted to farming and animal husbandry, I didn’t expect to come across a vast metropolis whose scale was almost on par with my master’s city—especially considering that the city was under the protection of a True Demon who was practically known as the embodiment of Sloth.

After admiring the city from a distance for a while, I walked toward the city, which had no walls or ramparts—that was strange, considering the possibility of threats or attacks.

Anyone would think it would be better for a demon like Belphegor to have ramparts, fortresses, or walls; that way, he’d save energy.

In the end, I thought maybe he was just too lazy to build unnecessary structures. I’d find out the rest once I entered the city.

When I reached the city limits, I saw two demons sitting in chairs; they were chatting quietly, dressed in simple gray uniforms.

Those guards just greeted me politely and let me into the city.

It felt a little strange to me; they didn’t suspect me in the slightest. As I watched the city’s inhabitants—all demons of different species who seemed to be enjoying their lives there, oblivious to my presence—I found myself thinking again that such a carefree attitude on the part of the guards and the inhabitants could be dangerous. They didn’t know if I was a deranged killer or something, but... Of course I wasn’t, but I could have been.

"If you were a threat, you’d already be sleeping," a deep, sleepy voice reached my ears.

It was strange; it seemed to me that only a moment had passed, but in that instant I found myself sitting on a black armchair in a spacious, elegant study, and near an elegant desk stood a beautiful demon woman with long black hair and deep-set eyes.

Her horns were black and spiral-shaped, one on each side of her head.

She was wearing an elegant black dress and was calmly reading some documents at that moment.

She looked at me when she saw that I had woken up.

"Forgive my father, a disciple of Lucifer."

It was unbelievable at the time; she was the first direct descendant of a true demon I’d ever met.

She was of the "Emperor Rank" (the first rank).

She was clearly stronger than me at the time.

"Don’t worry, besides, it was only a few seconds," I replied respectfully.

She looked out the window; it was nighttime outside.

"Actually, it was a whole week. My father fell asleep and forgot that you were still sleeping."

After hearing those words from her, my hands got a little sweaty; I hadn’t even realized I’d slept for so long.

At that moment, I knew I had to be even more respectful toward Lord Belphegor’s daughter; I wouldn’t have believed for a second—no matter how lazy a True Demon might be—that he would be capable of making such a simple mistake...

Some time later, I learned that Lord Belphegor hadn’t actually founded that city; it was something almost spontaneous.

According to Lady Karinah, her father found an ideal place to sleep; she built a palace for him, and then demons from different places began to gather in search of a safe haven, and little by little it grew into the metropolis I visited.

As I recalled Lord Belphegor’s words, I understood why the demons lived peacefully in the city governed by Lady Karinah and watched over by Lord Belphegor...

I lived for a little over a year in that city, where it was easy to fall asleep whenever one wished to sleep. Then I decided it was time to leave. But having met Asmodeus and Lord Beelzebub in person, I felt a great curiosity about the true demon, whom I never once saw during the entire time I lived in the city.

After thinking about it for a while, I asked Lady Karinah about her father’s appearance, and she surprised me.

"Do you want to see him?"

Although there was no malice in her words, I felt my hands start to sweat. But remembering my master and the punishment he might impose on me for acting timidly, I accepted the opportunity she gave me to see Lord Belphegor in person...

She led me to the palace located in the middle of the city; everyone called it "The Palace of the Sleeper."

We both walked through dimly lit corridors where small lights illuminated only what was necessary.

As I followed her, I could hear our footsteps echoing down the hallway.

It was strange; it had been a long time since I’d felt so nervous just from seeing someone. It was a feeling similar to when I’d go to see my master after doing something worthy of punishment.

She opened two large doors using her demonic power.

Not a sound was made as the doors opened.

Inside, a spacious room with an almost pitch-black interior—though not to a demon’s eyes, or so I believed—there was a power in the air that allowed one to see the surroundings only as they truly were.

She elegantly waved her delicate hands, and three dim lights illuminated the room a little more.

My gaze fell upon a large bed.

Blankets, sheets, pillows—all made from the finest materials, the kind used to create only the most comfortable and high-quality items.

And on the bed around which there were almost transparent white curtains, you could see an imposing and tired True Demon sleeping lying on his side.

A black and gray robe covered his body; his long black hair spread elegantly across the bed; he was slender, and his skin was pale; his face was somewhat handsome, and there were dark circles under his eyes even though he seemed to be sleeping deeply.

But what caught my attention was one of his spiral horns; they were a dull grayish color, but one of those horns was cracked.

What kind of being was strong enough to inflict an irreparable wound on a True Demon? That question came to mind.

My demonic heart skipped a beat as I watched the demon slowly open his eyes.

Looking at that True Demon was somewhat terrifying and gave the impression that at any moment one could be dragged into a dream from which one would never wake up again. 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

He was "Belphegor of Sloth."
