Chapter 300: Explosive Loss?

[Back to Lillian]

Lillian began to flood the cultist’s body with water, but was immediately knocked back as a fist made contact with the side of her face.

Bam!

Lillian stumbled back once again, hissing from the blow.

The teleporting cultist stumbled back as well, his body leaking with blood and excess water before having the wound heal at an abnormal rate.

However, because of this, his body was still rather bloated and puffed, unable to expel the excess water still within his body.

Lillian regained her balance and supplied her Parasitic Line with mana, allowing her to leech off the teleporting cultist’s vitality.

The side of her head that was once bloodied has now regenerated back to how it was before.

Lillian watched as the cultist disappeared once again, but she continued to track its movements with her Parasitic Line. When she was still regenerating, she noticed something.

’These guys have almost limitless healing... If I keep healing off of these guys, aren’t I virtually immortal?’

It should, wouldn’t it?

However, such a theory wasn’t something she was willing to test currently, especially when...

"W-woah!"

She was still surrounded.

Lillian groaned, dodging another attack before countering back. She dodged another by transforming her body into water and slipping through their attacks.

The Beetle also continued to break through the enemy encirclement, even causing collateral damage that made Lillian stiffen. She sighed, hoping that no one would be around to see and blame her.

Well, not like they could with the situation still going on.

’Wait, why am I even thinking about losing money?!’

Using her cloak to block an attack, she charged in and turned her hand into a liquid blade, piercing through their chest before using their body as a shield to block another attack—

Swish.

—Which was fortunate to take off their head as well.

She carried on decreasing the number of enemies around her until the teleporting cultist finally came back. But it was at this point that Lillian had nearly used up all her stamina...

But she wasn’t out of options, though.

Using her connection with the teleporting cultist, she began stealing their stamina. She still had enough mana to spare for this.

Rejuvenated, she tilted her head to the side, dodging its blow before throwing one of her own to the centre of his chest.

Bam!

Her mana-covered fist made contact, causing them to briefly bend over. She could even feel his ribcage moving inwards from her blow.

She widened her eyes for a split second, wondering if her personal strength had increased.

’They’re just weakened.’

Lillian remembered that the enemy’s body was just weakened, especially their bones.

Lillian continued her brawl with the cultist, throwing punches after punches and even swinging a blade made of water.

As Lillian continued, she couldn’t help but feel the enemy she was fighting wasn’t truly Tier 2...

’Tier 3, maybe?’

As Lillian was thinking this, she dodged another strike from the cultist before lopping off their arm. Right as she was about to move in and attack their neck, a shadow quickly loomed over them.

Looking to the side, Lillian found it belonged to the Beetle. And... Its face was very much bloodied, and for some reason, it seemed like it was charging right at her—

Thump!

"Agh!" Lillian let out a large groan as the Beetle charged into her body, slamming and knocking her through the window of a building.

Lillian’s body rolled over a table, smashing through porcelain cups and causing them to fall and shatter. She seemed to have landed in a cafe of sorts.

Lillian groaned once more, breathing harshly as she felt her shoulder pop out. This pain couldn’t help but cause her to relive the memory of when she was facing the Beetle back in her Trial.

"What was that for...?" Lillian hissed, irritated by her monster’s attack on her. Right as she was about to take a step forward to exit the building, a bright light erupted outside.

Lillian widened her eyes as the world became slow. A wave of heat washed over her as the light broke through the entrance of the building.

’Is this... An explo—’

BOOM!

Lillian flew back, her back slamming into a wall, which was also torn down by the explosion. Her skin became scorched, and her entire back became bruised as she continued to crash through the walls of several buildings.

Fortunately, she still had her Carapace Chestplate to take most of the damage, but she still felt the air being thrusted out of her each time her body slammed into a wall.

Eventually, she came to a final stop.

"PUAK!" Lillian’s back slammed into a wall, cratering it slightly before sliding down it.

"Huu..."

She breathed deeply, her lungs feeling like they were both crushed and on fire at the same time.

"Huu..."

Her eyes felt tired as she tried to endure the searing pain of a near point-blank explosion.

She did the best she could to lessen the damage of the explosion by coating herself in mana, but it seems it wasn’t enough.

Lillian slowly raised her eyes, taking a look at her surroundings.

Almost all the buildings around her had been destroyed and turned to rubble—the lucky ones only being set on fire.

Did... Did some kind of machine explode?

She looked towards the sky, finding sleek missiles falling from the sky. She widened her eyes.

Had her Beetle pushed her out of the way because it noticed a missile was flying at them? It didn’t attack her for no reason then!

She breathed shakily.

"I-it... It had already been 30 minutes...?" She muttered quietly.

She only had a little bit of time until she needed to reach a designated area.

She slowly turned her eyes down to take a look at the damage caused to her body.

The Carapace Chestplate was cracked, deformed, and even... Fractured... frёeweɓηovel_coɱ

With a hiss, Lillian tried to get back up, but as she did that, she fell back down. And that was all that was needed for something a part of her to break and shatter...

[A recognised Shard has been shattered]

She stiffened, anxiety washing over her.

She slowly looked down, finding her chestplate, once tightly wrapped around her chest, cracking before shattering into glittering dust.

Her eyes shook, fear gripping her heart as she watched the dust fly away. The scene of when she lost the Sonata of Revenge flashed through her eyes.

A pained look reflected deep inside the pupils of her eyes as she grudgingly muttered:

"You did great... Goodbye, my beloved friend..."
