Chapter 111: Wet Dog

It was late in the evening. The sky had long turned black, and Felix was getting ready to go to sleep. He wanted to wait for Remi at first, but since the fox still hasn’t showed up, even though it’s been so long since the Bloodmoon Pack arrived, Felix decided it was time to go to bed. He was tired, and Remi could let himself in on his own anyway. Perhaps Felix could make him some chicken and cheese pancakes the next day to make up for it, or give him extra cuddles, if the fox ended up being sulky. Vivi was already tucked in her crib, and Felix had just finished brushing his teeth...

When he heard the tapping on the door.

He stopped in place, listening.

And there it was again. Not knocking, just tapping. Somewhat soft, but at the same time, too forceful to be accidental. It didn’t sound like rain either, more like... an animal tapping on the door with its paws.

Remi? No, that was unlikely. Remi always just sneaked in on his own...

The tapping came from the door again. Although a bit reluctant and nervous due to the late hour, Felix would feel even more uneasy not to check it out, so he slowly approached the door, listening and sniffing for more clues...

And he smelled something, a familiar scent.

Kade.

Was he here to say goodbye or something? Felix didn’t really feel like seeing him, but he had a feeling that the Alpha would just stay on his porch the whole night if he didn’t open the door, so after a moment of hesitation, he let out a sigh and unlocked the door, opening it a crack, just enough to peek out. ƒrēenovelkiss.com

On his porch, right in front of his door, stood a wet dog. A massive black dog, drenched in the rain. That is, Kade in his wolf form.

Felix stared at him for a moment blankly, before shutting the door.

Or at least attempting to shut them. But Kade had already managed to stick his snout in the door.

"Get out," Felix said coldly, trying to push Kade away.

But the Alpha only whimpered in response.

"GET. OUT," Felix repeated, but to no avail. Kade’s whimpers only grew more heartbreaking, and he looked up at Felix with his sad, dark eyes. Cold rainwater was dripping from his black fur, pooling at the porch, and now also at Felix’s doorstep. Truly, a picture of pitifulness.

"Don’t look at me like that," Felix furrowed his brows, trying to remain stern. "Go to the hotel if you want to dry yourself up, it’s not like you can’t afford it!"

Despite his indifferent words, though, his heart was already softening. He tried to push Kade out for a bit longer, but eventually, he surrendered.

It must have been a difficult time for Kade, after all. With his father cursed, and possibly on the brink of death, it was natural that he needed someone to comfort him... Felix could relate to that. Although he didn’t care at all about his own father, he had been really close to his mother. He still remembered how it was when her already fragile health started quickly deteriorating, until her body couldn’t endure it any further, and she passed away... Felix was still young back then, and he had to suffer through it mostly on his own, spending many nights just crying himself to sleep while hugging a pillow...

"Fine, come in," he finally conceded, letting out a sigh, and opened the door wider. "Let’s get you dried up first."

He led the black wolf to the bathroom, sighing again as he looked at all the water and the muddy footsteps Kade left in his trail as he walked. And he had just washed the floor four or so hours prior... But it was too late to change his mind now, so he just grabbed a wet cloth and wiped Kade’s paws clean, drying his fur with some towels next.

"Wait here for a minute," he said, grabbing a mop to quickly wipe the wet, dirty floor, then returned to finish taking care of Kade. Taking a seat on the edge of the bath, with the Alpha situated between his legs, he started carefully drying his fur with the hairdryer. After all, while he might have dried him up a lot with the towels, Kade’s thick fur was still damp, so much so that it wet other things at touch. Such as Felix’s pajama pants, when Kade decided it was appropriate to rest his head on Felix’s lap!

Which was something Felix normally wouldn’t allow, but he decided to let it go, just this time. Because of Kade’s situation.

The question was... Now what? Felix let him in because he took pity on him, but he didn’t quite think it through. There was no mate bond between them anymore, but Kade still showed interest in Felix, an interest that the Omega was reluctant to reciprocate. On top of that, Kade was now in his wolf form, but he could transform at any moment... Transform into a naked man. They were alone in the house, with only Vivi sleeping in her crib...

It was dangerous. Yes, it was unlikely that Kade was in a mood to try anything, since he was worried about his father and all, but still... Letting an Alpha stay in his house with no third party around (little pups didn’t count, since they wouldn’t be able to intervene) was not something a sensible Omega would do. Not unless they were mated or related.

Felix thought about it for a moment, before stroking Kade’s head lightly. "Feeling better now?"

"Awoo..." Kade whined in response, pushing his head into Felix’s hand, and rubbing affectionately. It was hard to say whether that meant ’yes’ or ’no’, but if Felix were to take a guess, it was probably ’still not good enough’...

Well. It’s not Felix’s fault. Kade should have brought another relative or a friend if he thought he might need emotional support. That had nothing to do with Felix... No matter how miserable the Alpha looked right now, even in his massive, powerful wolf form...

Felix stood up abruptly, escaping Kade before he managed to completely melt his heart. "Well, that should be enough. You should go back now." He marched to the front door and swung it back open...

But Kade didn’t leave. While he did follow Felix out of the bedroom, he had no intention of returning to the cold and rain outside... Instead turning his pawsteps toward Felix’s bedroom.
