Chapter 166: Golden Eyes

Felix’s eyes were unique. He knew it very well himself. He could tell it, and other people could tell it as well. They were like two shiny golden orbs, beautiful and exquisite. No one else had eyes remotely close to his, aside from his mother, who had inherited them from his grandmother. Even if some amber eyes appeared golden, they still couldn’t compare. They were beautiful...

But they were still just a pair of eyes. No matter how stunning and unique they were, it didn’t really matter. Their peerless charm didn’t save Felix’s mother from being rejected and neglected. They didn’t help Felix in any way either. There was nothing special about them, just that their color was a bit unique, that’s all...

Or so Felix had thought.

Judging by Agnes’ reaction and her interest in his eyes, though... Could it be that there was something more to them?

Felix had no idea. However, he hid his surprise and cleared his throat. "Unfortunately, I don’t. I don’t know anyone else who has the same eyes as I do... Aside from my mother, but she had already passed away."

His voice trembled slightly as he spoke, but it was understandable for him to feel nervous, so Agnes didn’t think much of it. She just intensified the calming mist, filling the kitchen with fresh fragrance. Her magic smelled somewhat like a garden after the rain, except that much lighter and airy, with subtle sweet and floral scents.

"That’s unfortunate," she said, finishing the apple, and then turning the core into golden green dust, which scattered in the air. "It’s another dead end, then..."

So she had said, but she didn’t sound entirely convinced. Her eyes observed Felix carefully, as if she were trying to see right through him. Was he being honest, or lying to her to protect his relatives?

The floral scent in the air slowly intensified. "If you had to choose between Remi and your relatives," she asked lazily, "What would you do?"

Felix’s heart skipped a beat. It might have been a trick question. He had to answer carefully...

He didn’t have the time to think about his answer, though, because his mouth opened on its own. "Aside from my daughter, I don’t care about anyone else," he found himself saying.

And he immediately slapped his hand over his mouth, his eyes widening in horror.

Was that the truth spell? He had noticed that the green mist that Agnes had released intensified, but he didn’t know that he was being enchanted... All of a sudden, his knees went weak, and he had to grab onto the counter to support himself.

That didn’t seem to be a part of the spell, though. He was just scared.

Fortunately, Agnes didn’t find his answer displeasing. She just asked to clarify, "You do care about my son, then?"

"I do," Felix answered.

Or, well, his mouth did, against his own will.

It was the correct answer, though. Hearing him say that under the truth spell, Agnes’ expression eased, the corners of her mouth lifting up a bit. "That’s good then," she nodded with satisfaction. "In that case, I assume you are willing to help with removing Remi’s curse, right?"

So it was indeed a curse! It seems that Felix’s suspicions were right. Although he still had no idea what the curse was, based on Agnes’ words... It was somehow related to Felix’s golden eyes? At least that’s how it seemed, but it only made it more confusing to Felix... What did he or his mother had to do with a fox that lived so far away from the Moonhill Pack? They were just some random Omegas, not to mention Felix’s mother had always been sickly and weak, while Agnes and Remi were powerful witches...

It took a moment before he realized that he had yet to respond to Agnes’ question. This time, his tongue didn’t move on its own... It seemed that once Agnes had confirmed Felix’s sincerity, she had withdrawn the truth spell, and decided to have an honest conversation with Felix instead.

"Of, of course," Felix rushed to answer, worried that his silence might cause Agnes to misunderstand. "If there’s anything I can help with, naturally I’m willing to do so... As long as it doesn’t put me or my daughter in danger," he quickly added.

Agnes nodded in response. "Don’t worry, I’ve already said that I wouldn’t hurt you, so I won’t. I don’t want my son to hate me... He’s a grown-up man now, I’ll respect his choice." Her words were once again enigmatic. "In that case... You don’t mind if I take some of your blood, right?"

...His blood? Not that he minded, but... Why would Agnes need his blood? He wasn’t a mermaid or anything, just a regular Omega werewolf... There was nothing special about his blood.

"What for?" he couldn’t help but ask.

"To try to develop a cure, of course," Agnes explained, as if that was the most obvious thing. "I know that your blood is not enough to fully break the curse, but since you’re Remi’s spouse..." She didn’t finish the sentence, just sighed while shaking her head. "Although it’s not enough to break the curse, it still helps, right? Perhaps if I analyze it, I might be able to find the key to undo the curse without making any sacrifices. It’s at least worth a try, don’t you think?"

"Of course." Although Felix was still confused, he nodded his head to play along. "In this case... Do you have any needles you can use, or..." He glanced at the kitchen knife on the dish rack, but Agnes shook her head with a light chuckle.

"That won’t be necessary," she said, and jumped down from the counter, pulling out a few glass vials seemingly out of nowhere. Then, she approached Felix, her slender fingers brushing the side of his neck. "It might sting a bit," she warned, before pulling her hand away...

And as she did, a string of fresh blood followed her fingers, coming straight out of the artery on Felix’s neck, passing through his skin. Agnes drew small circles in the air, spinning the blood thread into a ball, and once she collected enough blood to fill the vials, she snapped her fingers, breaking the thread.

Felix lifted his hand, touching his neck. There was no wound or anything left, his skin just felt slightly warm. And itchy. So much so, that he couldn’t help but scratch it...

Scratch?

He froze abruptly, as the realization hit him.
