Chapter 185: Isn’t That a Good Thing?

When Lorelei led Felix out of the reception room and down the stairs, there were still a lot of pack members around, trying to catch a glimpse of what was going on, but the whispers mostly died down, and the stares were also much more scarce. They mostly restrained themselves to sneaking furtive glances while bowing at the woman in greeting. Especially among the Omegas, who suddenly turned into shy, quiet, and obedient creatures, no longer the Kade-thirsty gossip vultures.

It seemed that while Lorelei appeared very nice and kind (at least to Felix), she still maintained proper discipline in the pack. Well, it was probably much easier for her to reproach and control the Omegas than it was for Kade. Not to mention, no one had any reason to purposely trip in front of her, or try any other tactic they used on Kade, as they had nothing to gain...

However, even if it was quieter, that didn’t mean that the interest the pack members (especially young Omegas) took in Felix had dissipated even a bit... Rather, their glances seemed to have grown even sharper after the lengthy tea party with Kade’s parents. Felix couldn’t help but exhale with relief when they got into the luxury SUV that was already waiting for them right in front of the stairs leading to the main mansion, glad to finally escape the countless prying, curious eyes.

There were only Lorelei, Felix and Vivi going on the shopping trip... And a chauffeur and a guard, of course. Or, to be precise, two guards, one of whom also took on the role of a chauffeur. Unlike Kade, who often traveled on his own, without any guards or even a chauffeur, Lorelei never left the pack without her guards. As a Luna of one of the supreme packs, she had to be mindful of her actions and safety at all times. Although she was by no means weak, and the chances of her getting attacked were slim - unless they were desperate and seeking their death, who would dare lay a hand on her? - it was still better to remain careful.

...Which was yet another reason for Felix not to become Kade’s mate. If he did, once Kade became the leader of the Bloodmoon Pack, he would become the Luna. Lorelei’s current life would be then his...

And that wasn’t the life he wanted for himself or Vivi. While it was glamorous and luxurious, it came with its own difficulties, and a lot of responsibilities. It might have been fine for some, but Felix preferred a peaceful, quiet, small-town life much more. Not that he had actually ever experienced this fancy life to know how exactly it felt... But it just didn’t seem to suit him.

The car sped down the empty road through the forest. Although the Bloodmoon Pack was one of the packs that was close to human civilization, running multiple successful businesses in the human cities (or so Felix had heard. But what businesses they were, or even whether they were underground stuff like some of the other packs did, he had no idea), their main pack house was still located deep in the woods. Living among humans was inconvenient, as transforming in front of non-supernatural creatures was a massive taboo in the supernatural world. If anyone were caught on camera or something, and the video was made public, even if it could be dismissed as CGI, the wolf that had committed such a blunder was bound to be hunted down and killed...

"Do you have any favorite brands?" Lorelei asked, breaking the awkward silence and snapping Felix out of his thoughts. "Any stores that you would like to visit first?"

Felix shook his head. "No... I’ll follow your recommendations."

He wasn’t just saying this because he wanted to be polite, or he didn’t want to appear greedy, he really had no idea. While he knew some brands, both high-end as well as high-street... It was just knowing the name of the brand, but he didn’t have any opinion on them. Back at the Moonhill Pack, he didn’t get to buy his own clothes, he just wore whatever was available. Then in Silverfall, he just wore whatever was cheap, and there weren’t many brand stores to begin with. Out of the clothes he got from Kade, there were some that he liked a bit more than the other, but he never paid attention to the tags (or to be precise, he deliberately ignored the tags, as looking at them could make his head spin from thinking how much that piece of cloth was probably worth)... He had no particular interest in fashion either, so he never browsed online or anything. ƒreewebɳovel.com

So, he really had no answer to give.

But Lorelei wasn’t satisfied. She stared at him for a long while, her expression more serious than her smiley and kind face earlier.

"You know, I expected you to be far more outspoken, considering that you rejected my son," she finally said.

Felix almost choked on air. Of course, he was aware that Kade’s parents must have heard about them breaking the bond and how that happened, since Kade had told him that they knew their situation... But still, he didn’t expect Lorelei to bring it up all of a sudden.

Or at all.

And he wasn’t prepared.

Well, not like any preparation would have helped him much... If at all.

"Ahem, ah, well..." he cleared his throat, quickly trying to put his thoughts together. Which was extremely hard to do under Lorelei’s intense gaze... Although her eyes were completely different from Kade’s, both when it came to color and shape, they still felt oddly similar, in a way that their stare could make Felix nervous.

Except that even more.

And in a different way.

Which was probably why Felix uttered, "Isn’t it a good thing that I made him break our bond?"

Only to slap his hand over his mouth a second later. Yes, he could use this argument... But he should have at least done it in a more polite, subtle way! Not in a way that might suggest, ’You should thank me for rejecting your son!’ Which obviously wasn’t Felix’s intention, but what mattered the most was what Lorelei thought, not what he meant...

His heart almost stopped in his chest. He wanted to take a look at Lorelei to check her reaction, but his body was paralyzed, he didn’t dare...

"Oh? And why is that?"
