If You Could Hear My Heart-Chapter 1665: The Gentleman is as Refined as Jade, Unique in the World (5)
After a while, he finally moved his eyes away and grabbed her arm.
"Hold on to me, don’t fall down," Wen Zhiyuan said.
"Why are you treating me like a kid? I’m a few months older than you!" Shen Di pretended to be angry.
"Maturity doesn’t depend on age. In my eyes, you’re at most... seventeen?"
"Do you believe I could push you down?" Wasn’t he indirectly saying she had low intelligence? Or emotional intelligence?
Wen Zhiyuan laughed, this girl looked just about seventeen or eighteen today.
"Let’s go, I’ll take you to see the lake." Wen Zhiyuan tugged her arm.
"I can walk on my own." Shen Di attempted to shake him off.
Wen Zhiyuan’s hand slid from her arm to her wrist, and his heart skipped: "Don’t move; this way, I can monitor your heartbeat anytime, and if there’s any anomaly, I’ll take you down."
Wen Zhiyuan spoke earnestly, and Shen Di was half convinced and half doubting.
Moreover, his hand only rested on her wrist, so she chose to believe him for the time being.
"Hmm, let’s go." Wen Zhiyuan saw she finally complied, then continued guiding her forward.
Walking through a flat path, they stepped on countless fallen leaves, and the ground beneath emitted a "rustling" sound. There were many unknown trees in the woods, blocking out the sunlight, causing it to be cool under the trees with faint breezes.
Sunlight filtered through the gaps of the leaves, casting crisscrossing shadows on the ground, creating picture-like scenes.
"Are there any snakes here?" Shen Di asked fearfully as she followed Wen Zhiyuan.
"Guess." Wen Zhiyuan said with a half-smile.
Shen Di clung to Wen Zhiyuan with both hands, furrowing her brow: "Can we go back? I don’t like being in the wilderness. What if we’re bitten by a snake?" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
"Aren’t I here? Remember, I’m a doctor."
His words reassured Shen Di a bit, but she still felt some fear and stayed behind Wen Zhiyuan.
Shen Di was shorter than Wen Zhiyuan, hiding next to him made her look like a younger sister.
There was a moment when Wen Zhiyuan really wanted to pull her into his embrace.
But, he restrained himself, yet his hand slid down a centimeter, and he held her hand.
This time, he genuinely held her hand.
Shen Di, feeling as if she was electrocuted, scratched him, but someone acted all open and aboveboard, eyes only watching the road, pushing aside the leaves for her.
Shen Di stopped struggling, if he left her, it would be bad.
"I shouldn’t have agreed to come out with you, I don’t know what you’re planning." Shen Di said calmly.
"What else could I be planning, it’s obviously for your own good." Wen Zhiyuan laughed.
"Do you have a lot of girlfriends? You really know how to sweet-talk."
"Should I stay silent then?"
"No... talk to me, or I’ll get more scared."
Wen Zhiyuan smiled slightly, continuing forwards with her.
As they walked, the path turned into a larger one, with much fewer leaves.
Suddenly, their vision broadened, and a natural lake appeared in front of them.
The lake water was a deep blue, just like the sky, blending together, complementing each other. White clouds were reflected in the lake, and fish jumping broke the calm surface.
"So beautiful!" Shen Di exclaimed, her eyes widening.
The natural lake was like a mysterious mirror, seemingly holding countless treasures.
Looking around, there was blue, white, green, yellow, black... various colors, like an oil painting.
"Do you like it here?"
"I like it."
Wen Zhiyuan glanced at her and smiled, "Then I can bring you here to paint in the future, but you have to agree to one condition."
"What condition? The trial period is only three days; it won’t be extended." Shen Di said seriously.
Wen Zhiyuan laughed even harder, "From now on, no monotonous colors are allowed in your paintings, your artwork should be as beautiful as the scenery here."
He knew that sometimes, so-called paintings were simply projections of one’s inner world.
The artwork was monotonous because the heart was monotonous.
"I just paint to kill time." Shen Di said plainly.
If she didn’t find something to do, how would she fill the long and dull time?
Over the years, this is how she lived.
Eating, sleeping, taking medicine, walking, painting, playing the violin... each day almost a repetition.
Her body decided she couldn’t always travel far, and her character decided she didn’t like socializing, so her life, like her words, was ultimately monotonous.
"Isn’t it easy to kill time? You can come to me, I have hundreds and thousands of ways to teach you how to kill time."
Shen Di did not say anything further, indeed, today’s time had been passed just like that, and she seemingly... didn’t mind.
"Come over, I’ll bring you closer to see." Wen Zhiyuan reached out his hand.
This part of the ground was noticeably more damp, and Shen Di was a little afraid, worried about sinking in or falling.
"Just hold on to me." Wen Zhiyuan reached his hand out further.
Shen Di hesitated.
"You don’t trust me?" Wen Zhiyuan looked at her.
Shen Di shook her head, and after a moment, she placed her small hand into his broad palm.
This man, who was a few months younger than her in age, but more mature than her in every other aspect, gave her a different feeling.
Wen Zhiyuan shook his head with a smile, Miss Shen was really too innocent.
He remembered the first time he saw her at a concert, she was dressed in white, elegantly playing the violin, leaving everyone amazed.
A beauty from the North, with one glance overturning a city, with another overturning a country.
He didn’t listen to the music from start to finish, his eyes only on her. At that time, Shen Di was graceful and poised, like a noble swan, standing in the center of the stage.
Back then, Shen Di was pure and beautiful in his heart, like a white feather, gently landing on his heart.
From afar, she was stunning, but upon closer contact, he realized she was merely outwardly cool and composed, but in truth... quite childish, innocent like a blank sheet of paper, inexperienced in the world.
Despite being twenty-four, she was still like a little girl just entering university.
The coldness was only on the outside or rather, a tool she used to protect herself.
The further they walked, the more they felt the humidity and freshness of the water approaching.
But the ground became more and more moist, Shen Di rolled up her trouser legs, afraid of getting her pants dirty.
Wen Zhiyuan laughed, patting his shoulder: "Come up, I’ll carry you over."
"No need." Shen Di shook her head, she had never had so much contact with the opposite sex, today was already too much, "It’s fine to watch from here."
Besides, him carrying her seemed too intimate.
Wen Zhiyuan did not insist further, after all, to her, he was just a stranger she met two days ago.
Shen Di chose a tree, leaning against it to stand, so she wouldn’t get tired.
Narrowing her eyes, she quietly looked at the scenery ahead.
The scenery was truly magnificent, her heart felt as if hit by a drumstick, shaken to the core.
Colorful, as if paint had been spilled, dazzling and variegated.
Shen Di had seldom taken the initiative to speak to Wen Zhiyuan, and as she looked at the scenery, she asked, "How did you discover this place?"
